Swapping Points for Reservation

Here is my question. I recently booked a stay at my home resort BLT using my BLT points for this April. (Well within the 7 month window) I am thinking of trying to get a point transfer from another resort AKL potentially for a trip later this year that is tentative at this point. Let's say I transfer the AKV points into my account and decide I will not be able to go. Can I use those AKV points for my April BLT reservation thus swapping out the BLT points I used and replacing them with the AKV points I transferred in? I know that if the reservation was made at BLT using my 11 month priority booking window I would not be able to do this, but I booked BLT within 7 months so would that be allowed? I know the room category I booked at BLT for April is completely sold out now, so they can't just re-book the reservation and re-allocate the points.

You can usually exchange same resort points as to any reservation made in the 11 month window and you can exchange any points for a reservation made in the 7 month window, but you cannot exhange points from a different resort for points in a reservation you made during the 11 month window unless at the time of the exchange the room category and reserve time you are seeking is independently available. So you can try to do what you suggest because your reservation was made within 7 month window, but a lot depends on the person you get on the phone as to what will actually be allowed because none of these practices are written anywhere as actual rules.

One possible problem:
You have to cancel your current reservation and rebook using the AKL points. If during that few seconds that the room is on the board someone could jump in a get the room before you rebook.

MS has been able to do that with points from the same account. However transferred points are different so I doubt they will.

Typically when this is done its because someone canceled a trip and had borrowed points to use and they were swapped for current UY points so the member could bank those points

But it never hurts to call and ask once you have the points. The worst they can say is no.
