Swapping an 11 Month Reservation for a 7 Month One

I'm still relatively new to the DVC process, so bare with me here. I was wondering what the correct procedure is for swapping an existing reservation at my home resort (that I made at 11 months out) for a new reservation at another DVC resort (when my 7 month window opens up for my travel dates)?

I'm not sure if I have to cancel the old one first (which makes me worried) or will Member Services let me book the new one and then cancel the old one?

Or, can I go on a waiting list for my non-home resort before the 7 month window hits?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You need to cancel and rebook. You can only book the new one first if you have enough points to cover it. And, yes, there have been cases where the old one is cancelled and within seconds the new one is no longer available, and then sometimes neither is the old one.

If you have enough points, you can make a reservation at 7 months and then cancel the reservation you made at 11 months. Otherwise, you'll have to cancel the 11 month reservation first and then make the other reservation.
