Swap guests between reservations?

We have a party of six coming to WDW this June with two separate reservations – one at Yacht Club that can accommodate five and one at Riviera that can accommodate four. Is it possible to swap guests between rooms? Four of us will be registered at Yacht Club to be able to use Stormalong Bay but will be physically staying at the Riviera. The other two will be registered to Riviera but want to stay at Yacht Club with no plans to visit the pool. What kind of issues would this create with accessing the rooms? Are physical key cards still an option?

A situation like yours, if I understand it correctly, can cause a lot of confusion and a headache in MDE - and might influence room-key access for someone in the party. A person can technically only be on one Disney reservation per night. But to answer your last question, yes - physical key cards are still an option. They seem to be a bit more reluctant to hand them out in recent years, but they will likely give them to you.

So to give a little more background it is myself and wife with 2 kids + 2 grandparents. Since it is the grandparents first time at WDW we wanted to keep them at yacht club for easier Epcot access and not having to deal with Skyliner (I'm not sure how they will handle this as one of them has a small fear of heights). They have both said they dont want to use the pool at all so I was thinking of just switching the names on the room reservations if it won't be too problematic for them to get into their room. Since I can put up to 5 people on the yacht club reservation at least one of their names could be listed on the room and the other I could hopefully get a physical key card for. Not sure if that will work or not though.

Sounds like you're going to a great deal of trouble to get 4 Riviera folks access to the Beach Club/Yacht Club pool. That's where the disconnect is likely to come in and potentially cause issues.

The lead guest can’t be changed once the reservation is made. There will be an extra guest charged for the 3rd adult in the room. Frankly it just sounds like a lot of hassle for a pool. Why doesn’t your family just stay at Y & B if you want that pool? You could be near the grandparents & swim too.

One more thought, how old are the kids? Riviera has a very nice kids play area that Y & B doesn’t. Small kids might have more fun there anyway.

you're right there is the potential for too many issues. As the other poster said we'll check out the Riviera pool.

They'll be 11 and 12 by the time of our trip. I think as long as we have a place to cool down well be fine. We're definitely going to check out the Riviera pool then. Thanks for your help!

IMO you should rethink putting first-time visitor grandparents in a different resort from you. They will be overwhelmed and may need help navigating the resort and everything around it.

It can work if you have enough people on your MDE to place in each room, without duplicates.
Make some way to track which MB are which, like all for each room the same color/design.
Select 5 people in YC room, get 5 MB.
Put 4 people in Riviera room, get 4 MB.
Pay for the extra adults as applicable. Easiest thing is to have 2 instances of some members in MDE, for instance, original copy of you will be listed in Riviera and a back up of you listed in YC (name the copy something like Firstname-YC).
All tickets will be assigned to the "original" copies and that's the band to use for parks, purchases, etc. The band assigned to the back up you is only for accessing the YC and it's facilities.
I've aways had back up copies of several of the members of my travel parties so we can move tickets we want to save to avoid using the tickets unintentionally. There are lots of reasons to have multiple copies of a single person.
Swap around each of the MB as needed to access what is needed. Example, you'll need the YC MB to enter that pool.
If all MB are at the pool the grandparents could still access their YC room using the MDE app on the phone, signing in to whoever is lead guest in the YC room.

Not all grandparents are old and infirm (quote from Mr. Fredrickson). They could easily just be in their 50's and have no problems at all with navigating something like Disney. Even a first time visitor.

It can be done, however just know that only 5 (if you list 5) ppl will be able to enter the pool area, so one of them wouldn't be able to sit and watch etc. if that was a thought.

Originally we were all planning on staying at YC but my wife and I decided to instead join DVC and reallocate the money we were going to use for the YC reservation. That's how we ended up at Riviera. We were going to switch the grandparents to Riviera as well but decided against it because they weren't thrilled with the idea of using the skyliner.

This is really helpful thank you so much! I'm still somewhat new to WDW myself so will need to play around with the MDE app but I will try and give that a shot.

I do suggest working on the website vs. the app.
Things like this are easier to do on there.

Oh, one more note, this is only going to work if you've booked room only. You can't do it that way if there are any packages involved since the duplicate entries for a person won't get tickets.
