Hi , Just wondering what is in a Mini bar and what they charge if you open it up ?? Thanks Michelle

We've never been charged anything by accepting the key to the mini bar, in fact, the CM checking us in at the Dolphin recommended accepting the key so we could put our own bottled water in there to keep cool, which is exactly what we did!

Let me see, if my memory serves....there are candy bars, M&M's, small bottles of liquor (like you'd get on an airplane) several types of canned sodas (Coke/Pepsi/Iced Tea/Sprite) several juice boxes, one was a Gatorade, one an apple juice, can't recall the other one. A few cans of beer as well. Seems like I'm leaving something out though, just can't remember!

The prices are kind of on the expensive side, but you are paying for the convenience of having it at your fingertips!

It doesn't cost to have the mini bar...as loing as you use nothing...but be careful becaue they told us we had used something once, and we hadn't. I had to argue it and it was taken off, but there is no way of knowing what is supoosed to be in there.

Ok Thanks , I was wondering if i can take out what they have in there and use it to keep items cool.. ( i know not cold as a fridge ) Thanks again Michelle

If you take items out to make room for something of your own, put a noticable sign on the minibar stating that you have done it, and telling them where to look for the things that were removed.
Usually that will prevent charges, as they can go count the items wherever they really are; but they won't look around. I had someone at a Hilton once charge me for the use of 3 soft drinks that were actually sitting (unopened) right on top of the unit. I foolishly thought I didn't need to post a sign that time; I was wrong. (I had moved them to make room for medicine and a baby bottle.)

The items in a minibar are stocked in a certain order, and some minibars have sensors that will signal use if anything inside is even moved. If you encounter one like that, you WILL have difficulty and get billed for it, even if your kids just open it and poke around to look. Always ask for details about how the minibar is charged when you accept the key.

If you want to use the minibar for your own personal stuff I believe its a one time $20.00 charge to empty it for your length of stay. I think if you could manage to squeeze in a few things of your own in addition to the items for sale that may work.

I have always used a cooler with ice when I do my grocery stop courtesy of the town car service.

We used the minibar to keep medication cold. We just moved the stuff in there to the back. We were never charged anything.

Thanks very much for the information.. I will have a stryofoam cooler with me too .. Michelle

I'm pretty sure we were quoted $25 to empty it. The desk suggested that any items we wanted out to make way for our stuff, just put on top or on a shelf but do as suggested above and mark the fridge with a note that the items were just temporarily moved and to not charge for them or restock the items.
