Some one on the CB posted that they read in Foder the S/D have been consolidated into hoteland staff has been terminated. Sounds a bit far fetched to me. Anyone have the scoop?

Nope, it's just an unsubstantiated rumor. The only thing I could think of is that the S & D are owned by the same company (Starwood, parent of Sheraton & Westin).

...if the Swan and Dolphin pulled a Port Orleans/Dixie Landings type trick and placed both units under one GM and staff to save on some salaries.

I could be mistaken, but I think that's already the case (one GM shared staff services)....

...it can't be much of a surprise, then... ;)

I actually know zilch about the management of the S/D. I just thought it had a likely ring to it.

Because the people who frequent this board enjoy accurate information, allow me to repost (with some modifications) some information that I recently posted on the Disney Vacation Club in a thread about pool hopping and the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin.

Yes, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin are owned by the same company -- but it's not Starwood. The Swan and Dolphin are owned by Tishman Hotel Corporation -- and they have been since they were built. (By the way, Tishman Hotel Corporation also owns the Hilton on Hotel Plaza Blvd. at Downtown Disney.)

The Swan and Dolphin have always been affiliated with Westin and Sheraton, respectively. The Walt Disney World Swan still shows up in the Westin directory and the Walt Disney World Dolphin still shows up in the Sheraton directory. You can call the chains' 800 numbers to make reservations.

In late 1997 / early 1998, Starwood Opportunity Fund acquired ITT Sheraton and then Westin Hotels and Resorts, and thus became Starwood Hotels & Resorts. So the Swan and Dolphin are now part of the Starwood "family" of hotels, and are part of the Starwood Preferred Guest loyalty rewards program. But Starwood doesn't own the Swan and Dolphin.

Despite the Westin and Sheraton affiliations, the hotels have never been branded as Westin or Sheraton. In other words, the hotel with the giant fish was never called the Sheraton Dolphin. Undoubtedly, the license to use the Walt Disney World name as part of the hotel names is even better from a marketing standpoint.

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin have a terrific Web site
