Swan/Dolphin Gov't/Teacher rates

I called the Swan & Dolphin ressie line to book for next October/November. Told them the dates were flexible but I wanted the government rate. They are all gone already!!!! She said to keep calling back to see if anyone has cancelled. Has anyone been lucky enough to pick up one of these cancellations?

Hi,

I called this morning for THIS Thanksgiving for AP rates and there was availability. I'm going to assume that maybe the rates for NEXT year are just not out yet and that is why they didn't give them to you.

We will be going down in 8 days and staying at the teacher rate.

It also seems that sometimes the rooms with these rates are blocked for travel agencies - in the past I have checked and not been able to find availability for these rates on the Swan and Dolphin web sites, and yet the DreamRes system has shown availability at the discounted rates for the same dates. I would check on DreamRes and see if they have discounted rooms available.

I checked glo's thread about dates for discounts and it shows that they are available through 11-01-03. I would call again and speak with someone else. If that doesn't work, keep calling and hoping for cancellations.

I just got a Teacher's rate for 12/14/2002 (a Saturday!) on a direct call to the Swan when a sudden change in plans left us night short on our ressies. Given that October/November are typically not that busy, maybe you don't need to be in such a hurry to make reservations.

I was able to get the Gov./Teacher rate for the end of Oct. (10/30-11/2/03) two weeks ago. I would keep on trying b/c you never know.... Then again, I am the luckest person I know!

I called to start planning a 3/2004 trip and was told not to bother calling until we're 1 year or less before our dates. Anything farther out than 11/21/2003 (as of right now) will not show in their system according to the CM I spoke with earlier this week.

you should also make sure you are calling the Swan/Dolphin directly and not the Starwoods reservation number. When I made ressies in January for my September trip, the discount was "unavailable" via Starwoods, but when I called the Dolphin directly, I got it.

Thanks, everyone. When I called I made sure to talk to the Swan & Dolphin reservations area directly. I think they had a few rooms which are now booked, but when it gets a little closer to the date they may release more.
I just want to have this all planned and ready before July 4, 2003 because that's my in-laws 50th anniversary. We want to send them on their trip during the Food & Wine Festival.

Thanks for all the tips, too. We'll keep trying!

S&D are convention hotels and have different "busy" times from WDW. Oct/Nov might not be one of the quiet times, since fall is a popular convention season in Orlando.

I took Shannon's advice and tried via DreamRes - and I got the 129 rate! That surprising thing about that is that the Swan/Dolphin site has the government and teacher rate listed as 139, and I booked at 129! Thanks, Shannon - this will be a vacation they will never forget!
I don't know how I'm going to keep this quiet until July!
