Planning an adult only trip .. finally convinced DH it's ok to leave 12 yr old DS at home (now I just have to convince myself!) ... anyway, we can get govt rate at Swan or Dolphin .. am thinking of Swan and wondering if concierge is worth the extra $70 per night ... we'll be staying 5 nights, Sun-Thurs. Any opinions out there?

Hi. First let me say I LOOOOOOVE the Swan concierge. BUT is it worth $70 extra per night for 2 people? Absolutely not. We stayed as a family of 5 and definitely thought it was worth it, but that's a lot of money times 5 nights for your trip, money I'd probably use for some nice dinners. However, the Swan is a lovely hotel. I can imagine it's even nicer with just two...LOL!

I would say $70 would be pushing it for 2 people. For 3 people or more, especially by adding the breakfast convenience - it brings the value up considerably. If you read Glo's (?) thread anchored at the top of this forum, you will find the food listings there. It does take a lot to make up $70 per day.

The biggest convenience is breakfast. In my instance (diabetic) it is even more valuable - run down the hall - get food in the morning right away - no travel to a restaurant - no wait for a table, etc. They have wonderful fruit trays, toasts, bagels, cereals, milk, coffee, bottled water, etc. We had an excellent breakfast every morning.

In the evening, we only made it a few times. Fruit, cheese, cookies, crackers etc. We usually grabbed a couple of canned soda and then traded for cool ones in our mini-fridge. ( I HATE ice in soda!). If there are cookies left after 7, they left them out along with soda. So often we could grab a cookie & soda even if we were back late.

If you don't upgrade, maybe checking on any complimentary upgrades when you arrive - do you have a Starwood card & points? Check the Starwood thread on this board also.

Thanks for the info and opinions. I think I can use AmX reward points to "purchase" Starpoints and then maybe upgrade to concierge with those points.
