We just got back from a spring break trip to Orlando to see some spring training baseball and do a quick park visit.
Our first night was at the new Art of Animation resort - and we LOVED it. I usually prefer the moderates or deluxe resorts (POFQ, CR, BC, CSR) but we had a great time here. The rooms were comfortable - the bathroom tile "grotto" theme is gorgeous - we had a Little Mermaid standard room in Bldg. 8. The food court was great also - as was the main pool. I'd go back in a heartbeat. I stayed at ASMu once and didn't like it nearly as much as here.
At the end of the trip we stayed at The Swan - never been there before either. Overall, I would not stay here again. Our room was fine but it showed a lot of wear and tear in the carpets, on the fixtures, walls, etc. It was clean though. The beds were comfortable. The Swan has a horrendous perfume smell in the lobby area - and I'm not typically sensitive to that stuff but it bothered my nose every time I walked through! I walked over to the Dolphin and no smell there! The people were nice - no issues. Loved the bathroom area - two sinks (one in the toilet area and one outside of it). The Swan just felt like a big convention hotel that could be anywhere.
The price was about the same to stay at either (!) but I think we preferred the AoAR over the Swan just for the theming (Disney all the way), the food court area, shopping, ease to get to the car, and overall fun factor.
