Swan - Any way to waive resort fee?

From everything I've seen posted here, there isn't a way to get around it. We stayed at the Dolphin a month ago and also had the fee. We were told that we couldn't waive it. A few years back they did waive it, but not anymore. Hopefully, you got a really good room rate that will make up for it.

We booked the Dolphin using the $129 teacher/govt./nurse rate. Dreams Unlimited also has some good rates. I justified the $10 fee because we were getting a $320 room for over half-price. Swan and Dolphin are truly Deluxe hotels with wonderful service, and the location is great. When you consider the room rates of the nearby Disney resorts, it really is a good deal.

Because money was a little tight, we shortened our trip to 4 nights and we didn't need a rental car because we were so close to everything and had free Disney transportation.

Last year was the first time that they wouldn't waive the resort fee. It states on the res. that it comes with the resort fee. I paid my bal. at
check-in (with the resort fee) and was a little
unhappy for a few minutes. lol Was having so much
fun and magic at the Dolphin that I got over it
very quickly. This Sept I will know that it is a
little extra expense that I have put in my budget.
I guess there are worse ways to spend some money and
not have as much fun in the process. One of my
best lessons learned was a short trip to Daytona
on a Sun morn. I got a speeding ticket that was
out of sight and caused me to be upset for a good
while. $$$ I will not be speeding in the state of
FL, not me, and ruin another wonderful trip. Sorry
to go into such detail, but from my experience a
resort fee could be worse. lol

Thanks for the input. I got such a great rate for Labor Day. I shouldn't complain but I thought it was worth asking the experts!!

We got the resort fee waived on our 2 trips last year. One trip was in November and the other in December. I thought it was because we were Starwood preferred members. Not sure, though. Here is the website if you want to join. It doesn't cost anything.

Thanks! I joined that last night but I couldn't find anything on their site that said that they would waive a resort fee as a benefit. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

I don't believe they will waive the fee anymore. Think of it as an itemized portion of your bill and maybe it will be easier to handle. I have had motels/hotels in the middle of winter, with everything closed down in northern Michigan, charge our entire hockey team the resort fee when the only thing still available for use was their small little pool. Resort fees are becoming quite common. I was glad at the Swan I felt I at least "got" something with my resort fee! We called down for extra sugar for DH's coffee. Less than five minutes later we not only had an entire bag filled with packets of sugar, but more coffee packets in another bag! First trip that we NEVER ran out of coffee! DD used the health club, both kids used every pool on resort property numerous times, and every night I was posting to the DIS, "Live from the Swan" for free!

Have a wonderful trip!

I got the resort fee waived in Dec., and I got half of the resort fee waived this past July. I talked to the same cm both trips and she said that Starwood really came down hard about this starting in Jan. I agree that resort fees are becoming quite common...I wish they would just add it on to the room fee and never tell us we are paying 'extra' for services that some people never use or want.

How on earth did you get the resort waived? We are suppose to have 2 rooms adjoining, we really don't need 2 coffee pots, 2 newspapers and only one or two people will be going to the gym. I could understanding paying for one resort fee but not two. The only thing is that the reservations are made under two separate names.
