I understand that the Swan and Dolphin are considered Disney property resorts, so why don;t they offer the ddp with those resorts?

You can only get the dining plan if you are staying at a Disney owned/operated resort. The Swan and Dolphin are on Disney property, but they are not owned or operated by Disney. They are Starwood Hotels. The Swan is one of their Westin and the Dolphin is one of their Sheraton hotels. While they have some of the perks of Disney owned resorts (e.g. EMH), there are other aspects they do not (e.g. no dining plan, no Magical Express).

There is lots of good information regarding the DDP in a different thread. It sounds like a huge bargain on paper, but, in many cases, depending on your dining habits you might be better off paying out of pocket. I'm a large, fit, active male -- and the Deluxe dining plan is WAY too much food for me, however, I do enjoy signature dining for dinner, which means I either have to use 2 Dining Plan credits per person at dinner, or, buy the deluxe and not eat half the food I'm paying for -- so that makes it not such a bargain in either case. February's trip was with my nieces and nephews and they aren't into signature dining, so we did buy the dining plan and found it to be a good value. That being said -- I love staying at the Swan or Dolphin - when we go for food and wine, we always stay there -- we don't drive, and even with paying for the Mears Shuttle and the resort fee, we still are staying Epcot resort area and paying the same we would pay for a moderate.

The Swan and Dolphin are on Disney property, but they are not Disney resorts. They are owned by a different company.

The dining plan and other perks like the use of Magical Express are offered by the Disney company to drive business to resorts that they own. The Swan and Dolphin have negotiated with Disney to get certain perks for their guests, like EMH access and having Disney transport buses and boats stop at the hotels.

Has anyone done 5 in a room at the swan or dolphin? Is the rollaway bed, that they describe, there or do you have to call for ?

You will have to request it, and be prepared to pay an upcharge.

You can only do 5 to a room at the dolphin. You can request a rollaway, however they do charge, if i remember correctly it's $25/nt. Felt that was pretty steap. We drive so we opted to bring a blow up mattress.

I will add that the rollaway bed is the same mattress as the Heavenly Beds and it is really comfy.

They also don't offer magical express. It's a great resort that we sometimes could find for $100/night or redeem starpoints at a good value, but I'd still rather stay at DVC.
