My reservation was booked as a round trip for 2 passengers, will they seperate as 2 one way reservations? I want to be able to do this since the return flight was the most expensive and is refundable, this way I can watch for a possible lower price and get a refund or credit towards future travel.

Thanks,
Michelle

No this can't be done. I just called SWA a couple of weeks ago to ask to do this and was told it could not be done.

If they won't do that, can I do this..

cancel the return flight and rebook myself, since it is refundable? and keep the going out flight

No. You have to cancel both segments and then rebook each segment as one way flights. For the nonrefundable segment you will get a Southwest credit, use the credit to pay for one of the one way flights.

I always book one way flights when booking Southwest to take advantage of internet specials and DING fares. It makes it so much easier.

Is your flight there still available at the lower price that you're currently booked at? If so, just cancel the round-trip and book it yourself as two one-ways with the funds.

While you cannot cancel one part of a round-trip, if you use the outgoing flight and just don't use the return flight, it will automatically cancel. Since the return fare was fully refundable, you should be able to request a refund of the funds afterwards. Check with Southwest to confirm this. I do know that the funds would be available if it was non-refundable, so I'm assuming you could request a refund of the funds from a refundable ticket. You would just have to purchase a separate one-way return ticket. Hope this makes sense!

I have cancelled the return flight on a round trip with SW. You need to call but not the 800#. Can't remember it now, sorry but it is on their site. They operate standard business hours(8/9-4/5) M-F. This was probably about 18 months ago so things might have changed. Good luck.

Those days are over for some of us! In Baltimore we can no longer book one way for the lowest promotional fares. It varies with dates, but if I want to book one way at the now "promotional" rate of 79.00 (this was always the lowest regular rate for years), once I make it one way ticket that rate goes away and I have to pay the new "promotional" rate of 105.00. I am so ticked now that I can't book for what used to be usual lower rate at 79.00. Some people are able to book one way if they pick certain dates. It is very frustrating the changes of Southwest. I guess it is going to get worse with the changing of the boarding process too. I will be very dissappointed to see Southwest turn into one of the other airlines. I hate when they start taking away all the things that make the airline popular and then start to raise prices too. I bet before long we won't be able to change flights for the lower prices anymore anyways.

I booked 2 one way tickets this past week and realized after the fact that the price was higher for one-ways vs. round trip. Luckily since it was within 24 hours I just canceled and re-booked as a round trip.

So be sure to double check one-way fares as they may be more expensive than round trip.
