SWA Wanna Get Away Fares?

It's not a true refund. If you did not pay with RR points and you purchased a WTGA Fare, you will get a credit in the form of ticketless travel funds that can be applied for travel up to 1 year after the original date of purchase, for the original traveler only. You do not get a cash refund unless you bought an Anytime or Business Select Fare.

We always book WGA fares and we have been given true refunds before...so whether it was a mistake on their part, or what, I don't want to say it can't happen because it most certainly has for us.

WGA fares are nonrefundable. That's their business model. Why would anyone pay for Anytime Fares if they could get a cheaper WGA fare and still get a cash refund? If you got a cash refund for a WGA Fare, it was a fluke and should not be counted on in the future.

This will be our first time flying Southwest. I purchased our tickets yesterday, Washington DC (DCA) to MCO for $108 each way. I did not think that was too bad given the prices I had been watching out of multiple airports.

That's a great price. But in the event it does go down, just go into your current reservation and click "change". It will then bring you in and allow you to select any other flight. Select the SAME flight/time you currently have. It will then show you the difference in the new fare that you will receive as "travel funds" to be used within 1 yr from date of booking.

OK...well I'm literally just expressing what has happened to two of us in the past, that is all.

Here's the official rules regarding Wanna Get Away Fares. If you got a refund when you weren't supposed to it would have been an exception to their guideline, which they do have the ability to grant exceptions. This however would not be a normal procedure (more like case by case basis). I've no doubt that you got a refund in the form of payment back versus credit for future travel but just listing the official to it's out there.

Wanna Get Away fares have no such requirements, none of their fares (Wanna Get Away, Anytime or Business Select) have a requirement that you have to buy them with points. In fact I have only purchased Wanna Get Away fares (have not used my points yet) and I fly around once per year with SWA.

As far as earning the points Wanna Get Away earn the least, Anytime Fare is the next step up then Business Select earns the most points per flight.
