SWA Wanna Get Away Fares?

Also, if you've got more than one in your travelling party - you might try booking everyone individually and keep checking back. My brother was able to book 2 of their 7 at a great rate. Went back the next day and 1 more seat had opened up at the rate, so he grabbed it; then went back in the day after and grabbed another at the lower rate.

Yes - this exactly. We had a party of 7. So, I would put in 1-7 and see what the prices were. Sometimes I only got reductions on a few of them but still reduction.

Also, on WGA fares. Mine were not available until months after the flights came out - so it was not right away. (of course the flights we wanted were during spring break).

We flew home from a Disney cruise the Monday after thanksgiving last year. Same deal, I was on at 6:00am and all the wga flights were gone for the Sunday after so we ended up going home on Monday and even those wga flights were high. They did end up dropping a little a few weeks later though and I got some points back.

Well, this gives me hope that things may come down somewhat, thanks!

I'm also in Maine- have you looked at Manchester NH? I found better SW prices there. I'm going in October and I'm agonizing over flight options for my group of 8 right now

I did look at Manchester. We are going in December. With the 1.5 hour drive to Manchester and then paying for long term parking it's not worth the price difference for us! Mom has mobility issues so it's easier to fly out of Portland, ME.

Gotcha, I'm in a similar situation and about 1/2 of my party hasn't flown before so yay for that too :)

Manchester has direct flights, which is awesome! Just not right for our situation unfortunately!

I agree with the above posters, if you want to save the most possible, book everyone individually. Also booking all the flights as one way could also help you save money in the long run.

After you book, check back once a week or so, to see if they flights have dropped in price, if so, just go through the change ticket process, its fairly quick. If you paid cash for your ticket, you will get a travel voucher to be used on a later flight. If you paid with points, you will get the point difference put back in your account.

The reason to book them all as one ways is due to the rebooking process. If you book it as a round trip, and one way decreases in cost, but the other way increases in cost, they will re-book both ways, and you might not save anything. If you book one way tickets, you can just rebook the way that lowered in price, while not worrying about the way that increased.

How about when they don't show WGA fares at all? We seem to have this problem during peak season flights or weekend flights...they show WGA fares as unavailable, but there sure are openings for Anytime or Business pricing. Chances of those opening up at much lower fares? No way I'm paying $500 pp just to fly home.

Yes, SW almost never releases WGA fares on Day 1 for holiday weekends. There is a 99.99% chance that every one of those flights will open up with WGA fares. Usually starts to open in about a month.

This is not true. You can re-fare just one way of a round trip.

WOW - Yesterday I checked SWA and a WGA fare was 137 from where we usually fly. Now there's no WGA fare and one way is from 250-469 for the majority of the week. It's over Christmas and New years so that's probably why. We are planning to drive unless we get a great airfare. Since airfares aren't out past Jan 4 I didn't want to risk booking one way then being stuck paying a high airfare back.

I'm in Maine.....I've only seen them go up, up, up!!! But then we are limited on the options and a small airport!
Also in Maine....flying United out of Bangor for$250 each for 5 of us. I check everyday and bam, there they were.

we are trying to decide biting the bullet and paying the overpriced fare, or staying until Monday

We were already planning on flying home on the Monday after Thanksgiving (my kids still have that day off) and the SW fare to Philadelphia on that date is currently $305 - one way! Definitely keeping my fingers crossed that they start to go down!

This will be our first time flying Southwest. I purchased our tickets yesterday, Washington DC (DCA) to MCO for $108 each way. I did not think that was too bad given the prices I had been watching out of multiple airports.

Will you please explain how to re-fare?

If you see that the fare for your flight has gone down vs. what you paid for it, you can get the difference refunded back to you.

It's not a true refund. If you did not pay with RR points and you purchased a WTGA Fare, you will get a credit in the form of ticketless travel funds that can be applied for travel up to 1 year after the original date of purchase, for the original traveler only. You do not get a cash refund unless you bought an Anytime or Business Select Fare.

Booked MCO to DCA one way for my daughter who usually drives down with me and flies back to work after the weekend.

Booked on points but it was a $69 flight - points just a little less than 4K.

DCA had 2 nonstops - last year just one in November.
