SWA seating?

I've been reading all the posts and it sounds like seating is first come first serve. I have never flown southwest. I assumed it was pick your seat from home? Sounds like I'm wrong.
I'm getting so nervous. How many across a row?
My 4 yr old had a liver transplant and is immunosuppressed. There are 6 peopel in our family so she never sits near strangers. Except one time spirit dropped one of our seats and put a mean old lady next to daughter and coughed all over her and hollered at her too. Bit** wouldn't switch her seat with my husband eiter after we asked politely.( I did rearrange so they weren't sitting next to each other anymore)
How can I assure we get seats together?
What is A line and B line?

On SW, you do not get to pick your seats. You can print your boarding passes just after midnight on the day of your flight (someone can verify this for me ...)

There are A, B and C passes ... The "A's" are given out, then the B's then C's.

When you get to the airport there are corresponding corrals where people will line up (sit on the floor) starting a couple of hours prior to flight. They preboard those with children under 4 (not the whole party, just the child and a parent) and others with needs. Then the A line opens up ...

I suggest you print your passes the night before or get to the airport a few hours prior to flight time (if your flight is at night ... maybe you can go to the airport during the day to checkin?). Getting A's will just about guarantee the 6 of you will be near each other.

I would call SW ahead of time, they'll like accomodate you and your family due to DD and allow you to preboard.

Are you flying direct or need to change planes?

Maybe someone can help with the exact age to preboard and to print your boarding passes???

Last time I flew SW (June) preboarding was 4 and under, but they were cracking down on how many could board as preboarders. Just parents, not grandparents, aunts & uncles.

Is it possible for you to print your boarding pass out at midnight the day before you leave? I have used SWA many times without a problem. Last year my kids were 4 and 6 and we were able to preboard.

My medically fragile one is 4. So I can preboard with her, hubby and rest of kids? That would be great. I will print out passes the night beofre/
Will the passes say A< B Or c?

Definately print out your boarding passes at 12:03! You'll definately see the letter on the boarding pass. We've always gotten "A" at that time. Also, on your way home have the front desk print it out right after midnight. We were at BCV and they did it with no problem and there were 3 other families as well as us having theirs printed out

If your daughter is medically fragile I would get a letter from your MD to make sure there is no problem preboarding. Sometimes when there are lots of children they don't preboard children because there are just too many. They do preboard folks in wheelchairs or need mobility assistance. One gentleman who preboarded with me did it because he has an arm injury and couldn't sit in the middle. He had a MD note for a disability. Southwest was very good about no peanuts when they were informed that a child had a peanut allergy. They announced no peanuts were to be served and only pretzels were offerered. So I think if you make them aware of your situation they will help.
