On our flight home, we have a direct flight that makes one stop in Midway. Scheduled layover is 30 minutes, so I am thinking we would not be able to get off the plane (don't think we want to do so, anyway).

I read that sometimes you must get off at the layover stop when you fly SWA, so I am wondering, do you get a boarding pass for each leg even though it's a direct flight? Or do you just use get the one and use it again if you have to deplane at the layover stop?

TIA for your experiences - if it matters the stop is in Chicago (Midway, of course). :)

In August, I flew from OKC to PIT, with stops in St. Louis and Midway. I changed planes at STL, but stayed on the plane at Midway and was able to move up closer to the front so that I was off early in PIT. We weren't on the ground very long at Midway.

If you are concerned, maybe a phone call to SWA would help. Since you have a direct flight with only a 30 minute scheduled stop in Midway, my guess is that you would not be asked to deplane.

Your best bet would be to see the gate agent if you have to get off. I don't think you get 2 boarding passes if there is only 1 flight number. If I recall correctly, SW collects the boarding passes so you would not have it for a stop.

We've had the 1-stop flights quite a bit. They take your boarding pass at the originating airport when boarding the plane, then when arriving at the gate at the "stop" airport, everyone who gets off leaves and you stay on. The flight attendants do a head count, I've always experienced them to get the correct number, and they let you move seats. We got in early one time, and they did let people get off, you just had to give the gate agent your name to get back on the plane, and we had to be back on prior to the official boarding of that flight.

That 30-minute layover is quite deceiving! By the time the departing passengers leave the plane and the SWA cabin attendants do the head count, they are almost ready to board the first group! You may not have the option to leave the plane unless it is delayed on the ground for some reason.

Asking a flight attendant at the time will be your best option.

We took the SW flight from MSP to MCO and back in the last couple of weeks.
We not only did not have to deplane at Midway, after the passengers departing at Midway got off, and the flight attendants had done the "through count" (or whatever they called it), we had about a minute and a half to move seats and/or go to the bathroom before the new passengers started coming on. Seriously, I have never seen a flight turnaround so quickly!
