SWA "child fare"

I see this term mentioned on the SWA site but I can't really find info on it. Is this a cheaper way for kids to fly? Help

I made the request and it was actually more than the lowest rate I could buy.

That sounds cool... but it's probably a behind the scenes joke. Can't you picture some executive: "yes, we will give a *special* rate for getting to fly with your kids..." just adding a service fee.

I could be wrong, but I believe that's the fare for unaccompanied minors. It usually runs more since there are more controls involved for the safe travel of children ie- sign off cards, escort from gate to gate, etc.

SW infant, child, and youth fare is different than the unaccompanied minor fee. The child and youth fare is only a discount off the "Anytime" fares, which are significantly higher than the "Wanna Get Away" fares.

Comparison: a Minneapolis to Orlando flight in August: Anytime fare: $372. Wanna Get Away fare: $103.

"For infant, child (2-11), youth (12-21), group (10+), and military fares please call 1-800-I-FLY-SWA (1-800-435-9792). These fares are a discount off the "Anytime" fares. Other fares may be lower."

I believe this is the fare for an infant with a purchased seat. You need to call the airline directly for it. When my son was a year we purchased a seat for him. It was roughly half of our adult fare. It was cheaper for us since we had so much gear, with a purchased seat we had the full luggage allowance.

This. It's only useful if you have to buy full-price fares for whatever reason.
