....I am not going to get back on. OK the air on SWA to/from Orlando from Chicago was only $69 (each way). However the rate to/from St. Louis was $140. :confused3 . Thus, I am taking the tain to Chicago (less than $20 with AAA) and flying non-stop from Chicago to Orlando. On the way back, however, I booked a flight that had one stop in St. Louis (and requires a change in planes). I plan to get off the flight in St. Louis and just not make the conection to continue on to Chicago. I am flying with my friend who will continue on to Chicago (where she lives). I am going to try and not have to check any bags at the airport so that there is no problems. If, however, I buy too much on this trip and do have to check a bag, can I be honest and let SWA know that I am getting off in St. Louis and ask that my checked luggage gets off there too? Would they want to charge me extra for not making it back to Chicago? :rolleyes1

Luggage is supposed to be checked to your final destination. You can try to tip a skycap but they may not even be physically able to help you . Why don't you just ship a box home?

I always wondered about this!! To fly to Atlanta is more expensive than to fly from Chicago to Sarasota with a layover in Atlanta. How much sense does that make?!? I am curious to hear if anyone has done this...but I wouldn't check any bags, just to be sure!! :rotfl:

I have done it... I don't recommend it. Delta really gave me a hard time and it took FOREVER to convince them to check my luggage only to Atlanta. (And I was doing it do to a family emergency) Also, be warned that when you don't get on the connecting flight they may page you and they have the "right" under the terms of your ticket to take all Frequent flyer miles or flight credits for your entire ticket.

Also if you do this on your outbound flight (ie from Chicago to Sarasota) when you don't get on the second flight (Atl to Sarasota) on most airlines (everyone but SW I think) the rest of your ticket is cancelled.

OMG, I never thought that this could be any trouble at all. Hummm....maybe I'll walk with my friend to the waiting area for the connecting flight in St. Louis. Maybe, if the Travel Gods are with me, this flight will be over booked and they will be looking for volunteers to not take this flight :rotfl2: and I will gladly volunteer my seat-lol. Yes, I think I will mail anything home that would not make it as a carry one (I can travel very lightly when needed) and just get off the plane. I really don't care about loosing the flight credits, but thanks for mentioning that as there are times when this might make a difference in what I do.

Thanks again for all the quick replies!

SW is one of the few airlines that doesn't have rules against hidden city and throw away tickets. You won't have any problems with your FF credits.

The problem is the computer won't issue a baggage claim check for just your first flight. You can try tipping a skycap, maybe they can do a manual tag. Plan on carryon luggage.

However, they will page you and look for you.......

OP is travelling with a friend who will be taking the connecting flight. She can speak up when the OP is paged.
