Bear with me...I have a few random questions
.
I know that SWA has not released the flights for our dates yet so I am looking at the week before to get a rough idea. For my questions, I am assuming that the schedule will be similar. I have never flown SWA as they are new to our airport and I got the SWA Visa with the 50,000 bonus points so that is what we are using for our trip. It is just DH and I (no kids) for this trip.
First, the flight down is non-stop on SWA. I do not intend to buy EBCI, but I will check in at 24 hours out. Since it is just DH and I, we are not too concerned about where we sit and I assume we should be able to get seats together. We will each have a carryon that fits under the seat so overhead space is not paramount either.
My questions are in regard to the return trip. The non-stop flight (currently) departs at 9:30am which I am not willing to deal with. Instead, I would prefer the 11:30am flight that has a layover of less than an hour in St. Louis with a plane change. The first leg is operated by AirTran and the second leg is SWA. So, what is my best plan of attack to maximize our chance of sitting together? I assume that I can check in for the AT flight at the 24 hour mark and our seats will be assigned. Can I change them to anything available? What about purchasing the BC upgrade? DH and I really like those big, comfy seats in the front and I enjoy a few adult beverages. Can you purchase the upgrade if you are using RR points? I assume that I would check in on the AirTran website, correct? Also, if I use RAC, will they know that there is no fee for our checked bags since the flight was booked via SWA?
In regards to the connecting flight, can I purchase EBCI? If so, is that going to check me in for my connection BEFORE I am checked in for the first leg? I would check in for the departing flight at 11:30am on Monday, but with EBCI, that would check me in to my connecting flight at 1:20am on Monday. Is that how it works?
We will probably only have one checked bag between the two of us so I am not too worried about luggage.
