This may be silly but I have never used the online check in for SW. What do they do for luggage you intend to check? Do I bring a printout or something? Do you still wait in the same line as those checking in at the airport? How do they tag your luggage? I googled it and could not find anything other than "check in oline and go to your gate". They neglected to mention anything about checked luggage in the whole veture.

I am disabled and my husband will help me with the luggage, but he isn't coming on the trip. I am just wondering what the procedure at the airport will be like. Do we look for a seperate line like the online check in ones at the Disney resorts?

Geez I spelled check worng in the title, sorry.

My husband is worried that the Skycap will lose the luggage if he/she is having an off day. SW policy says that they do not incurr the cost to get your lost luggage to you. So I am thinking the ticket counter would be at better option, I am just not sure if that means we stand in the regular ticket line. I would be so miffed if I waited in line to be told I needed to do something else.

Checking in on-line for SW only gets you your boarding pass selection (Group A, B or C). If you check-in 24 hours ahead of time, you'll most likely get Group A. But if your disability necessitates a preboarding, you will board before Group A anyway thus, no need to check in ahead of time.

Whether or not you check in on-line, once at the airport you'll need to either go through the regular check-in line OR use skycap service. It doesn't matter which one you use as either one can take care of you. The lines at SW move swiftly. Once at the counter or at the skycap, just tell them how many bags you have and they will print out baggage receipts for you. We've used both skycap and the regular check-in line numerous times and have never had our luggage lost or delayed on Southwest.

Please note that Southwest weighs every bag and if it is over 50 pounds, you will be charged extra for the bag. Even though the first two checked bags are free, they must be 50 lbs or less.

Also, if you go through the regular check-in line at the airport, you most likely will have to use a computerized kiosk. One agent takes care of two kiosks so if you have questions, they can help you.

SW pays to ship lost luggage to your home. They'll sometimes give you a voucher if you return to the airport to pick up your luggage.

Passengers who check bags after the cut off time are told they'll be responsible to get their own bags if the bags don't make the flight. Other airlines won't accept bags under those circumstances.

I re-read the policy and you are right, it is only for late checked baggage that they will not assume the cost.
