I am looking at SW flights and some have a layover (change of planes) at MDW, but they are list as having 2 stops. However, there is nothing stating where they would be stopping, or even that they would be stopping. Does anyone understand this and could you explain it to me?

I guess if there is an extra stop, but no plane change, I don't have to know, but I would like to.

I have never flown into MDW and don't remember what I've heard about it. Any opinions on MDW. Is it nice, any good food places, how is the SW area, etc.? We would have a 3 hour layover and a 1 hour layover.

If the website doesn't list the airport code for the layover that means you won't allowed off the plane at that stop. It if does have the airport codes it is a normal layover where you change planes.

MDW has a great food court. If you like Mexican, try the Lalo's there.

You can get off the plane at the stop, just be sure to bring your boarding pass with you to reboard.

Not necessarily. And they collect boarding passes when you get on the flight, so you won't still have it in your possession.

If its considered a quick stop (and my flight to Vegas last year via Phoenix was indeed a QUICK 20 minute stop) you may be told to remain on the aircraft. All passengers whose final destination was Phoenix left, and those of us continuing to Vegas were told to stay...and remain seated so they could get an accurate head count. Once they had the tally, we were told we could move to a different seat and had about 10-15 minutes to do so until the new passengers would be boarding.

Generally, if it is ONE flight number from start to finish you will not change planes, you will only make a stop to let some off and some on. You WON'T have a boarding pass for the second or third 'leg' of the trip...if you get off, you would need to get something to allow you to re-board, and you would (a) lose your original seat, and (b) possibly have to board at the END of the line since you no longer have a boarding card (not sure about this though).

Thanks for the info. We ended up getting flights w/ just 1 layover and they are both BWI.

Any good lunch places there?

BWI is my homebase and I fly often for work.

Southwest has two piers at BWI...I'll begin with the food court between the two piers.

McDonalds to Crabcakes. There is a Phillips Crabhouse with a sit-down restaurant and a carry out _ pricy.....a Diner is another option for sit down sitdown and/or carryout. You will also find assorted fast food options - a muffin and coffee kiosk and Godiva chocolates.

Both piers have been adding food choices as well from Auntie Annie's to carry-out salads and sandwiches and sodas to grab and go.

BWI is an easy place to find food on the Southwest Piers.

Thanks! That's good to know. DS is diabetic, so we like to take extra precautions w/ having food available. We will bring plenty of snacks w/ us, but it seems like there will be some good options for something more than a snack, or at least some better/different snack options.

At BWI we like to eat at California Tortilla - they have a website with a menu if you aren't familiar with the chain.
