I have always thought that this whole US Airways thing is actually a GOOD thing for the Pittsburgh airport. They have relied too much on US Airways and have been burned by it.

Now with US Airways disappearing, others are taking their place. Our Jan flight will be on AirTran and now SW will be starting service in Pgh!

SW in Pgh

We just used AirTran instead of US Airways, and loved them! I had hoped that AirTran would build a focus city, but maybe not since SWA is coming in. Between AirTran & Southwest, I'm sure PIT will be a much better airport to travel from.

I think SW is great for PIT. It's a shame that it didn't happen when USAirways could have had a fare war with them.

PIT used to be my home airport. It's a shame what US Airways did to it.

I JUST heard this on the news! I think it's great for Pittsburgh travelers since it will give you more options and better airfare, and better customer service! Congrats!!!

It is SO GREAT, isn't it? I've always been so jealous of all those terrific SW fares I hear about...and we couldn't ever get anything close to that! I'm flying AirTran next month for the first time...I've never used an airlines other than USAir since I was a kid.

Looks like I might be using SW come September!

That is great news! I have family in Pittsburgh and flying there from Philadelphia is horrendously expensive on USAirways. Wonderful! :cool1:

I heard this information briefly on the news!. I can't wait. We actually decided to drive this coming April to Orlando because of USAIR problems. When will SW be officially at PIT? I quess it will take awhile.

Service will start in May 2005. They don't say which cities they will serve yet, but I would pretty much gurantee Orlando.

That's so cool! I'm currently pricing airfare for our October trip. I'm anxious to see what prices they'll have. I wish SWA had commuter planes. Living in the center of the state stinks sometimes because we're about 4 hours or more from any major airport and need to use commuter flights and a big plane to get anywhere. That's neat though.

Has anyone heard a starting date for Southwest? I am looking for air for May 7 to 13 and AirTran and USAir are both around $300 for non-stops. I'm hoping SW will start early in the month and go to Orlando, that will bring the prices down.

Debbie,

I could be wrong on this but I thought I saw May 5th in one of the newspaper articles that I read, I think it was the post gazette?

Perhaps you can go to their website and search for that article and find something more concrete.

Good luck! That $300 sounds nasty!
