We have a credit with SW that expires in June. Do you have to fly by June or use it to purchase a ticket for later in the year by June.

Usually you need to FLY before the expiration date. I have never seen anything different. You my want to call to verify - bummer to lose the credit.

Thanks. We actually flew home for a death in the family in March but I was too preoccupied to remember I even had it. Oh well.

We have this same issue. Our credits expire in June but we want to use them for a flight in October.

We called and asked about the credits, explaining the situation (a family member was laid off but got a new job and can't take vacation until October) and what the agent at Southwest told us to do was wait until the day after they expire, call customer service and ask to apply for an extension. There's no guarantee they will grant it, but it can't hurt. They said if you get the extension, you have 6 more months to use the credits, although one CSR told us that they send you a voucher if the extension is approved (not sure if this is the case, she wasn't very nice at all).

I hope that helps!

I may be completely wrong on this, but I thought you could also pay for a one time six month extension...something like $75.

It's $100 to pay for a 6 month extension, but then the credit is available for anyone to use (not just the person it was originally for). I had a $175 credit expire, so I called them up and they emailed me a voucher for $75. Better than nothing.

Actually, I just heard this yesterday afternoon from a friend on Facebook as well (although they said $50.00). Either way, that would be better than just losing the credit completely. My fear is waiting til they expire, applying for an extension and not getting approved, and then the prices aren't as low as they are right now.

Thanks so much for the info!! I wonder if I have to wait until they expire to do this (June 1), or can I pay now and use it for a flight after they expire.... I'm gonna give them a call :-)

I just spoke with them and you do have to wait til the credits expire to pay the $100 fee...
