We purchased the Wanna Get away and Senior fares for our trip the end of the month that we are unable to use now because of a family medical issue. I've looked everywhere on SW website to find out about the credit for next year's trip, does it have to be booked before the same date we did this year or just used before the same date next year.:confused3

Any help would be appreciated!

TIA!

SW will allow you to cancel the booked flight and issue you a fare credit. The credit is valid for one year from the original purchase date. Hope this helps!

That is correct. The flight must be taken (not booked) within one year of your original booking date (not the original flight date).

If that doesn't fit your window, I understand that you can buy another 6 months for $75 (not sure if thats per person or by the itinerary)

so if booked it in Feb for a May trip, we'd have to used the credit before May again the next year?

What about the Early bird check in that we purchased, do we get credit for that also?

You would have to USE the credit before the year expiration of the PURCHASE date. So if you purchased originally in Feb you would need to fly before next Feb.

Not positive about the early bird credit but i believe you receive that credit as well.

I had never heard about buying extension but if so thats a great option:thumbsup2

No, you have one year from when you originally bought the tickets to use the credit.

I just extended a credit a few days ago. You have to wait for it to expire, then get it reissued as a LUV voucher. They took the $75 fee from the total of the credit. The voucher came in en email the next day (it can take longer).

I have to use it within 6 months of the date I called to extend it. (it expired in Jan, I waited until now to call so I could use it this fall).

And if you have a couple of different reservation numbers (for the same passenger), combine them into one so you only pay one $75 fee. (you have to do THAT before they expire).

no, as per SWA's website: all EarlyBird Check-In purchases are nonrefundable. Customers who cancel their flight will forfeit the previously purchased EarlyBird Check-In option for that particular flight.

Look at the Senior Fare and see if that one is refundable. The Wanna-Get-Away ones are not.

When I go to the SWA website and pull up any potential reservation, a box will pop up when I put the cursor over the "categories" of tickets (ie, Business Select, Anytime, Wanna Get Away). Info in the box says Business Select, Anytime, and Senior fares are fully refundable.

I think, though, if you rebook a new flight using your current reservation number (before your original flight was scheduled to occur or you otherwise cancel your flight), you can keep the EB credit. If you cancel your flight first, then use the credit for a new flight later, you will have lost the EB credit.

I just called SWA last night and asked about the Early Bird check in because I want to change from October to January. I was told it traveled with me to a new reservation. You wouldnt get the refund on EB if you canceled and qualified for a total refund on your flight.

What was suggested to me that instead of canceling the flight I have now, wait for my new dates to open on their website and just change the flight.

Maybe that would work for you?

* Edited that I just saw you were scheduled to travel at the end of the month so that wouldn't work for you. I suggest you call SWA and get an answer direct from them.

On the ticketless paperwork it states that travel has to be done by a year from the purchase date. So since we purchased in Feb, we'd have to travel by the same date in Feb of 2013. Our AAA TA said that they changed it to travel date, it used to be purchase date and you could still travel later.

We did purchase the "Any Reason" cancellation through AAA so we should be getting all our purchase of air/early bird and package money back, so that's good. We can put it toward next year.
