SW Airlines hole in plane!

God,I hate when I read things like this just a few weeks before a trip. I don't mean this thread-I saw it on the Charter home page. At least they're having all of those planes inspected. I'm leaving my seat belt fastened!!!

Wasn't there a made for TV movie about a hole in a plane like 20 some odd years ago? I seem to remember a flight attendant getting sucked out of the roof. I was little though and might be remembering wrong.

Yes, it was based on a Aloha airlines airplane

I am so glad you remember that because when I mention it to anyone they look at me like I'm crazy!

Regarding the SW Flight: scary!! That seems like it would be a 1 in a billion thing to happen though...

:rotfl2: It was late 80's? Crazy I can remember a lot of the 80's NOW, but then not so much :rotfl2: and I remember the movie as well. Honestly, it's amazing that there weren't more fatalities, etc.

What's the over/under on the date of the first lawsuit being filed?

Not that I'm cynical or anything ... ;)

Aaaak! DD and I just flew on SW airlines to Phoenix a week ago today and flew back home this past Monday. That's a little too close for comfort.

Ugh! We fly out on SW in 2 days. The whole thing doesn't really scare me anymore than something going wrong with my car and having an accident.
I really *really* hope they don't cancel our flight. :(

Second incident of apparent metal fatigue on SW in less than two years. They already paid one fine for shoddy maintenance, I bet there will be more fines to come. SW may be more frills but their cozy relationship with the FAA frightens me. We will never set foot on one of their planes.

Try to be those of us who are suppose to fly on Monday via Southwest!!!:scared1: Canceling my flight is a possibility.

I just saw on Fox News that SW had a plane where a big piece ripped off and they made an emergency landing.:scared1: I think I have now officially given up flying.

Was anyone killed? No. Was anyone seriously injured? No.

There was a car accident near my aunts house yesterday afternoon where 2 people were killed. Hearing that, would you stop driving or riding in a car?

Flying on SW would probably be safer now than ever because they are on the lookout for it.

ITA. :thumbsup2

You know for the maintenance thing of checking these planes, no matter who the company is, there will always be people who don't do their job properly. And numerous airlines have been fined for maintenance, etc things as well.

I always fly SW, well except when I went to Hawaii, but if they flew there, I would fly with them.

The losing cabin pressure thing: I travel with DD12 and we have flown many times. However, with the FA gets to the safety example of the oxygen masks coming down it always freaks me out. because they tell the parents to put the mask on themselves first then their child.

Thanks! We were wondering why my mom's flight was cancelled today.

She originally was flying from Greenville to Lubbock, Tx.

Instead she had to fly Greenville to Orlando, from Orlando to Lubbock .

That's because you are NO help to your child if you've passed out from oxygen deprivation while trying to handle your kid.

I just flew Southwest this week...to BWI and on to San Diego this past Sunday and then from SD to Vegas and back home to Raleigh on Thursday. I am a nervous self-medicating flyer (helloooooo Xanax). All the flights were totally uneventful and pleasant. However, if I had been on the plane with the hole, I would likely never fly again. It's just how I am currently wired...to freak out.

Absolutely. You help yourself first so that you are *able* to help your child...not just with their mask, but with the rest of the flight. You can't very well help anyone, especially your child who needs you, if you passed out right after helping with their mask. Put your own mask on, get the air you need and then help your child. Even if your child passes out in the meantime, you are able to put their mask on them to get them the oxygen they need.

SW is halting many flights of similar planes per the local news here, they had 2 incidents this past week. Not sure how to get a link, will ask for help in that regard..is this also on transportation board??

From Wall Street Journal, 300 flights today as planes being reviewed. They/NTSB are watching situation..and SW has nothing on its site????That seems crazy to me...especially with Easter break coming soon........
