I had a great time at the beach! Sorry I've been missing from here. Well, I'm not REALLY sorry because I'm at the beach. But you know what I mean.
So, where were we? Oh, that's right, sweating like crazy as we ran from the Contemporary to MK. So we get close & Suzy really wanted Jack-Jack to see what was going on so we told her to just run ahead. But we all got stuck together at bag check & ticketing anyway. The show had already started but fortunately from their strollers Jack & Boo were short enough to watch from under all the overhangs. It seems this trip I was constantly being stuck at ticketing behind people who were totally clueless. I have excellent skills at picking short bag checking lines & they didn't let me down on this trip. So I hopped in a bag line & zoomed right through.
But my choosing a fast ticketing line skills really let me down. I like to pick lines that have one solid family, with hopefully no ECV's. Nothing against them, but parents with strollers move much faster than groups with ECV's. In addition to this I like to choose lines where the CM handling the machine is actually paying attention. It seems like all of them should be, that is just not a reality. Not all people have equally ticket machine powers.
In the past, I've always been the first person through ticketing but it failed me this time. It seemed I was always the last person through. No matter which line I chose something negative would happen. It was so frustrating. Why can't people figure out how to use these machines? Ticket in, finger in, pause, green light, grab ticket, walk through. If you have a stroller: kid's ticket in, pause, green light, your ticket in, finger in, pause, green light, grab both tickets, push child through gate.
Why is this so difficult???
And why can't CM's help? And why do they have one CM running 3 machines?
OK, so I digress.
Boo was watching the show while I was dealing with the chaos of the clueless people & CM's. She kept pointing and exclaiming. Once I was through the ticketing area the show was ending and the doors were open so I never really stopped moving after that. Suzy rushed ahead to get FP's. She had a great plan from her DL trip that you get your first FP's immediately and then just continuing collecting them the first few hours of the day as soon as the window is open. If done properly you should have collected 4-5 by lunchtime while enjoying all the line-free lines early in the morning. It worked really well and we had Winnie, SM, PP, etc. easily in our pocket by late morning.
Mom and I were kind of moseying as we were terribly hot. I pushed her onto the sidewalk so we could catch some of the a.c. pouring out the doors of the stores. This worked quite well and continued to be a strategy I used all week.
I decided to head through the castle as I was to head directly to Dumbo.
It's been quite some time since I've been inside the castle:
It looks like we were savoring the moment, but in reality I took all these photos as we rushed by, without even stopping. That's the weird thing about Disney World. If you saw any of the details anywhere else you would stop & look in awe. But because there is something amazing every foot at Disney we all just rush by barely giving it another thought.
Suzy did make it back in time to ride Dumbo with us but opted not to. I think perhaps she's ridden Dumbo a bit much. I probably have more photos of my family on Dumbo than I do of us in our homes. It's always our first ride of our first day, when we are most likely to pull out a camera.
Mom & Jack-Jack:
For some reason I spent this entire ride trying to get a decent pic of Boo (which I did, see above) and TOTALLY forgot that I was going to look & photo over the wall at all the construction. We were practically on our way down before I even remembered anything was going on at all. So this first look was limited but very exciting.
Here are my thoughts to the heated discussions happening here on the Disboards. There are circus tents. Get over it.
When you are riding Dumbo with circus music blaring & you have seen the movie multiple times, which is all about the circus, it doesn't seem even a tiny bit odd that it would be in a circus tent.
Clowns or no clowns? Since Dumbo was a clown & with clowns, again, it makes sense.
Elaborate meet & greets. Even if I never go & participate after my initial curiousity, I still think it's a good idea. You'll have to stay tuned to hear more on my Belle moment but I think actors & actresses interacting with the public at large is a huge part of what makes Disney magical. Really, the streetmosphere of DHS is just elaborate meet and greets. The much missed Adventurer's Club was also just an elaborate, interactive place to enjoy skilled actors & actresses. I just enjoyed a trip to Williamsburg, Va which also is over run with actors & actresses interacting with guests. Would Williamsburg be so popular if it was just a historical place with tour guides & no interaction? Nope. Because lots of people don't have good imaginations. They cannot put themselves in the magic unless it is total immersion.
The new part of Fantasyland will be immersion. And just for girls? Well, WAAAA to all the crybabies on this one. LMA, Indiana Jones, Cars Garage meet & greet, just for boys. HSM in front of the hat, just for preteen girls. ESPN Club just for sports fans. R&RC just for rollercoaster fans. Who cares? Boys & girls are different and have different wants & needs. Old people & young people have different needs. Whatever. Why can't we all just be happy there is something for everyone? Why does it all have to be about ME!?
I thought the view over the fence was exciting. But I generally take whatever I'm given. And I'm generally pretty appreciative. Plus, I know for a fact that if Disney does a lot of lame stuff, people will take their vacation dollars elsewhere and I'm pretty sure Disney doesn't want money to go elsewhere and therefore will make sure lame stuff stays out of Fantasyland.
So. We were done with Dumbo and all of the above thoughts happened in the 3 seconds I had to look over the fence.
While we were flying Jack-Jack noticed an empty Dumbo car on the ground so he wanted his pic taken in it. Or should I say, he wanted to get in it & I wanted his pic. He had NO INTEREST whatsoever in getting a picture. And so getting the following photo took forever & really isn't all that good for the trouble I took in getting it:
Boo pointed out the elephant bush:
Again, and this was kind of a theme for me this trip, what if this elephant topiary existed in your hometown? Everyone would speak of it & it would be a big deal. "Have you seen that garden on fifth street with the topiary shaped like an elephant? It's amazing! How do they do it? You'd be driving the kids over to see it. "See? Look at that. Amazing."
But I bethca've never even noticed this elephant topiary guarding Dumbo.
So after that we rushed over to AstroOrbiter as it is another slow load line that is best to get out of the way right quick, promising Boo we could ride the carousel later. On our walk Mom pointed out the Tomorrowland gardens. I always find Tomorrowland a bit ugly but Mom said, "Who comes up with this stuff? How can you say 'Let's make the gardens and trees look like they come from the future' and then actually make it look like that?"
Look at the trees in the background too, see how they are cut to look like Jetson trees?
Very cool.
We then went to wait for the elevators for AO. This is a cool ride with a super dumb loading system. There was no one over here & yet we still had to wait awhile just because you have to go in an elevator. I was expecting it to be AC but that was just too much to hope for. It was stifling hot and I was happy to be out of it.
I took a pic of Suzy & Jack:
And the wonderful CM asked if I wanted a pic of me & Boo. Uh, YEAH!
You see Suzy back there? What is she doing? Texting Milo every 3 seconds, that's what. They text ridiculous amounts to begin with but he felt quite left out of this trip and they texted even more than normal.
This time I remembered to enjoy the view. Remember breakfast?
The roof of Stupid Stitch (why can't this ride be re-done and made ride-able?) and the gorgeous castle.
We were killing a bit of time waiting to get SM FP's for Suzy & I as we wanted to hear the new soundtrack. So Buzz had all we were looking for: AC, video game, Jack loves Buzz, and it would kill a bit of time:
I didn't play the first go round as I was with Mom & Boo and Boo has to have her own gun. But she doesn't really shoot so I think we maybe have had 100 points. I just focused on getting shots of Suzy. Look at Jack's score. 0
Mom wanted to hang out in the gift shop & play but Jack-Jack was kind of a gift store nut so this was the last time we did this after a ride. From this point on Suzy would hold him and run through the gift shop with Mom & I hustling behind her. Here are the kids pre-"I wanna buy this" sadness:
On our way out of Buzz Boo spied the TTA/Peoplemover and thought it was a great idea. Perfect.
As we were leaving the TTA Boo's new attitude towards characters was put to the test. Stitch was out wandering around looking for trouble. How would Boo react when he approached?
Ta-Da!
It was also time to get our FP's for SM and Chip & Dale were out with no one around. Dale was quite fascinated with Boo's bobcat and they had quite the little "chat" about him. You can see Dale has him in this pic:
All in all, it had been a very successful hour in the MK. Off to Boo's favorite ride from the last trip: Barnstormer.
