Suzy and Perla Skip the Lines Again: From roughing it to the lap of luxury

:cheer2: Hooray! It's almost time to leave! :cool1: I'm going to go ahead and say have a fun and safe trip!!!! now because I'll be in class tomorrow night and won't get the chance again. I'm working on my masters and taking weekend classes. (yuck) But I'll be done in May!

Can I tell you my exciting news? I booked our trip last night!!!! :yay::banana::yay: I am so excited, I could hardly get to sleep last night just thinking about it. We will be in the World June 5-9th.

Your basement looks like my bedroom and closet! Laundry piled high. ugh. My spring break plans include reorganizing and cleaning out that mess. I like your green signs that you made, very nice. :thumbsup2

In talking about the wait times, I have been looking at Touring Plans tonight and the expected wait times for the 2nd week of June at MK are not bad at all (IMO). The longest waits were like 45 minutes for Splash Mtn in the middle of the day. I think that is bearable, and with FP it shouldn't be that at all, right? DH got a free wait time app and has been playing with it. He was telling me about the ridiculously long waits for TSM and the RNRC (I think that is right) at HS. And I explained the reasoning for getting to the parks so early...... I think he is getting it. :woohoo: I'll keep working on all of them. My kids are early birds anyway so they won't be the problem. It is just their parents who like to sleep late!

Okay ???? time: Do you drive yourself to the parks or always take the buses? I would think the extra gas you would use would make up for the time spent waiting on a bus/hoping for a seat. Am I right or wrong?

Woohoo!!! You booked! That makes it feel so very real. But it really feels real to me when it's all the way paid for. My 3 favorite days: the day we book, the day we pay, the day we leave!

As for your question, it's a tricky one. Suzy & Milo really prefer to drive. It puts you 100% in control, no folding giant strollers down to get into buses, you don't have to be with even more people, and it is faster.

Donald prefers to ride buses. You don't have to be turned "on", WDW is taking care of you, it gives a relaxed, slow pace to the trip right from the beginning, it's always air conditioned, there is no checking back into reality at any point during your trip, and you have total freedom as you don't have to return to your car, you can bounce from park to park and split your family up since you'll always have access to your resort.

I'm in the middle.

And really the question gets taken away from us. If we fly, we save the money on a rental car and submit to Disney transportation. If we drive, we drive to most parks.

MK, however, is always faster and easier to take a bus. If you drive you must park, take a tram, then the monorail. If you take a bus, you take a bus.

This time we've arranged it this way: MK we'll take a boat. Epcot we'll either drive or take the boat to the monorail. AK we'll drive. DHS & Epcot we'll be at the Dolphin so we'll walk.

So the questions on public transport are this: Are you and your dh people people? Never met a stranger? Or reserved and quiet? There are a LOT of people on buses.

And do you like freedom to go wherever you want to go just like home? Take a car. Do you like freedom from worries and the daily stresses of life? Take the buses.

So we're done packing. Woohoo! Are you ready for the exciting pictures?

Here are the exciting surprise gifts I bought Boo. I bought them off and on since Christmas on clearance sales. With these and the pipe cleaners and google eyes (soooo much fun to make animals with these), the coloring books, the DVD players, the Leapster, and the rest of her bag of goodies we should have an easy peasy drive.

Here are the blankets, and backpacks, and overnight bag for the girls and I:

Here is all the stuff we had to fit into our van!

And now we switch to Suzy.

When we were all done packing a good friend came over and hung out. We had beer and pizza and pretzel m&m's and did our nails. Here's my toes. See the hidden Mickeys?

So now today I'm watching t.v. And then I'm going to work really soon. And then finish cleaning the house. And then put all the rest of the stuff in the van. And then bake and pack the food.

And we leave at 1:30!!! Can I do it all? I have to.

I didn't sleep well last night. I couldn't fall asleep till midnight. Then Donald couldn't sleep this a.m. and got up at 5 which woke me up. Five hours is NOT enough! Oh well. I have hours and hours in the van, right?

Well, I'll post once we're on the road and then.... Who knows? I'll be in my Disney la-la land and you all may just have to wait till we get back. :cool1::wizard::cool1::wizard::cool1:

Wow! I bow down to your packing abilities.

I saw all those bins, and boxes and sleeping bags, etc etc etc and thought there was NO WAY they would all fit but you did it! :cool1:

I hope you all have a great time and I cant wait to hear all about it(and see pics) when you get back!

It's all Donald! I'm organized and prepared but he is the packing master. I told him if he was on Survivor he'd be the puzzle guy. He laughed and said he didn't even try to pack it well because we had so much room! I'm glad because after we all woke up this a.m. I pulled SURPRISE the 5 pillows we need to take. You don't think of pillows taking a lot of room but they are very poofy.

I'm sitting down currently. I made a TERRIBLE error in my eating today. I always am nauseous before a trip and today is no different but Donald bought our office donuts so I went ahead and had a half a one as a treat. The moment it hit my stomach I knew I was in trouble. Blood sugar spike! I've dealt with it since 10 am but suddenly got really dizzy and decided to sit down and have ham & Laughing Cow cheese with water. Wash away some of the scum.

Here is Boo thoroughly enjoying her donut and she hasn't had any problems. Oh to be 4 again.

See her cute Mickey earrings?

And here is the rest of the sugar I will not be eating. I've learned my lesson for the day! Cincinnati Bengals Mickey cupcake for Charming:

Just normal Mickey cupcake:

Mickey Krispie treat. Mine are better than WDW. I swear! But MUCH smaller.
f9faac82.jpg

Whew. OK. Not dizzy anymore. I'd get scared it was blood pressure issues (Suzy & my dad have blood pressure problems.) But I just had mine taken at the doctor's office yesterday and it was 103 over 70. So I'm pretty sure it was that darn donut. Why, oh why does sugar have to be so delish?

:thumbsup2 I am totally amazed that you got everything in. I had my doubts too. Did you leave room for the kids? JK

You are on the road! Can't wait till you get back and can share everything with us! Hope your trip is wonderful. :cool1:

Sugar is delish.......*sigh*. All it does for me is make my jeans too tight.

I can't believe you fit everything in the vans!!

Have a great time, can't wait to read all about it when you get home!

This is a test. I'm going to try and post a picture of where I'm laying right now listening to Wishes and others conversations.

Here's hoping! From my phone.

Hoping for a great night sleep but concerned as we r right next to a comfort station. Bbb first thing tomorrow!

We can't believe it either. It fit & we forgot almost nothing. Our campsite is great & our ride was almost painless.

And I'm happy the picture worked. I'll post a few this week: live!

Yesterday was our first park day. MK all the way! We did bbb, pl, and lots & lots of rides. Here is a little preview of my girls in costume but before bbb:

I can't wait to tell you all about it! Amazing weather is a great thing, ya know?

Looks like you are having a great time! Hooray for good camping weather.

I've gone back and read your 09 report. Hope everyone is feeling ok!

I'll keep checking back for the live updates. popcorn::

We're baaaaaackkkkk!

Sorry, I didn't do very well at live reports. We were way too busy having fun to report anything. I thought I'd have quiet little moments but honestly, I didn't have any quiet little moments. From 6:45 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every night it was party party. And when I did get to lay down for an afternoon nap, I actually napped!

But, we're back. I'm about 2/3 of the way through unpacking. I got groceries. And I'm currently sitting at my desk at work. So very soon I promise: we'll graduate to a real trip report!

Yeah your back! I can't wait to read your trip report and see how all the camping went!

Woohoo! Glad you're back and it sounds like you had another great time! I cant wait to hear about it. :yay:

hey there! Joining in to learn how the whole tent camping experience was!

I've followed a few of your reports before (wasn't there one about tenting at your dad's and him providing "room service"? That seems to ring a bell)

Love love love the tshirts (this report or prev reports! can't remember which at this stage!)

Hi everyone!!! I was back in my home but I wasn't back here, obviously, as I had so much to do to get caught up that I wasn't back here since I've neglected telling you a single thing about our spring break trip for the entire week.

Thanks Walkinginthefog for all the nice compliments. And yes, my dad has cooked for me TWICE while camping. I cannot tell you how delightful camping is when you don't have to cook at all. Actually, I can. I've camped as the mom three times, where I'm fully in charge of a camp. And never had to cook. Twice my dad, and this time Disney. Maybe that is why I enjoy it so much. :thumbsup2

So stay tuned because coming very soon to a PTR near you is a TR!!!

Thursday night we packed up all the infinite amounts of things we had (and posted on here, some of this will be a little duplicate) into the van. Ready to go!!!!

Friday morning finally dawned. Well, kinda. Pre-dawn. I know a lot of people who drive to Disney get up before dawn and get going. That's great. I could do that.

But we were not doing that. We weren't leaving until early afternoon. But I was awake pre-dawn.

I was happily sleeping, no problems there. And Donald is awake. First, tossing and turning in bed. Then getting up and "quietly moving about." Finally at 5 am I said, "What are you doing?" And he said, "Today's the day. Time to rise and shine."

Sigh. I was awake and today WAS the day so how could I go back to sleep?

Not until 6:50 (that, right 2 HOURS later) did the girl's alarm go off. Donald, who yes was still at home because he didn't really have anything to do at 5 am either, says, "We've decided you don't have to go to school today."

Both girls start jumping up and down THRILLED! Till I said, "That is a lie. You DO have to go to school." Donald was laughing hysterically and I said, "You are evil." He says, "Why am I evil? You're the one making them go to school." Grrr...

So girls on bus, both Donald and I headed to work. I had deliberately left this till last as I knew it would be a definite timed thing that would take 2 hours. It did. But as I left, of course, there are the usual goodbye conversations, last minute conversation, etc. By the time I headed out, I was in full panic! I h3ad gotten up at 5 am and was still gonna have to kick my booty into gear to be ready on time!

The moment I got home I was nauseous (typical for me when excited and nervous) and went into full out rush around like a maniac mode. I cleaned up the remaining things in the house. Realized the front toilet was broken and backed up. Urgh! Spent 10 minutes I didn't have fixing that and cursing the thing.

And then did the one thing I REALLY wanted to skip. Frost & decorate the cupcakes. I looked at that bag of cupcakes and thought, "I'm gonna throw these in the trash."

I had myself all talked into trashing them when Boo asked me what I was doing. Sigh. She LOVED doing this so much and this was the thing that made her even more over the top excited. So it was worth it. We then made Mickey shaped Krispie treats.

Donald came home at this point and proclaimed them a success. He then worked to get the electronics and a few other things wrapped up. And I turned on the oven and quickly wrapped all the frozen empanadas & calzones in foil.

While the oven was coming to temp I swept and mopped the kitchen and Donald vacuumed up the living room.

I know, I know. This is EXCITING stuff. But don't you all do this before you go? It's just important, ya know? Even though we had a house sitter we still wanted to make sure everything was clean before we left.

At this point it was time to get the girls. So Donald ran to get them, running into Suzy, of course, getting her boys. I was busy baking off all the empanadas and laying on a neck roll as my neck was badly out of place and I wanted to help it a bit before the long ride.

He came home and by 1:40 we were at the end of our road awaiting the Suzy clan. Who never came. We were perfectly timed and knew they should be there so I texted her.

And here is the story of what they were doing: We had both bought window markers, which is a great tip for a cheap way to get your vehicle in on the party from the very beginning. We had put them in the kid's travel bags. Suzy and her group pulled them out to do a quick decorate before we left. While the adults were using the facilities, McQueen decided to do a bit of decorating on his own. He is 7, by the way. And quite creative.

So when Charming and Milo came out to hop in and leave they were confronted with a "Mickey" but NOT a Mickey Mouse. No, it was an obscene mickey. There is no photo of this as this is a family board and McQueen cried so hard at Charming and Milo laughing their heads off at him that Suzy was forced to Windex it off before we had a chance to see it. But she did draw me a secondary version and if you imagine the bottom part of Mickey's head stretched out very far and the ears of Mickey smaller and up further, you will have the gist.

In the midst of McQueen's sobbing Suzy said, "Well, it didn't really look like Mickey Mouse." To which McQueen answered, "Anyone can draw a Mickey, I was trying to be creative."

Once I got this text and read it aloud to the family everyone was a LOT more patient as we, too, were laughing like crazy.

Soon they were beside us, we saw the drawing and handed off their bags of treats. Since all of the adults had been way to busy to eat lunch and Charming had also missed lunch, we went ahead and ate them all right then as a 2 o'clock lunch. Because they were smallish, the ears were rather a waste. But other than that they were awesome and a great idea. I was on the look out for a bigger cookie cutter.

IMG_4639.jpg

Here is Boo devouring her second one (yes, she ate the ears. They were pretty much straight pie crust so it was her speed.) The headphones were AWESOME! I've never bought little kid ones before and we are all tortured by listening to whatever she is watching. But this time she wore headphones, the big girls watched a different movie, and Donald and I listened to tunes. Win-win-win. LOVE the headphones. $5.00 at Big Lots. And they folded too!

IMG_4642.jpg

The first craft was bead stringing. Boo LOVEs this and is very good with her hands. I was happy enough to have total silence and peace for a good long time, though I was wearing a tremendous amount of beads by the end of this evening and if I took off any of Boo's lovely creations she immediately hollered at me. I could have done without the gigantic bracelet that I was forced to wear.

IMG_4645.jpg

While this was going on inside, outside it was POURING! We were all a bit worried about Suzy's car top carrier that was fabric and I remembered I had forgotten the tarp. Curses.

The next craft was pipe cleaners and google eyes. Kids LOVE this. I just print instructions for pipe cleaner animals off the net with photos and they go to town.

We also were playing the license plate game. I asked Suzy if they were playing and she said her van was so packed the kids couldn't see out the windows. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We found 43 states on this trip! Fun. At least for me.

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE 70 mph???

We stopped whenever anyone needed to. That's how we like to do it. We do make people go, but not obsessively. As a matter of fact when we stopped at 6:30 at a McDonald's in NC Boo said, "Are you gonna make me pee?" :lmao: Maybe a LITTLE obsessive.

After dinner I had my first cupcake. OMG@!@!!!! It was soooo good. So happy I hadn't trashed them. The brownie cupcake wrapped around the cookie dough center with fudgy frosting and mini oreos on top: rockin'!

We played Disney Who Am I? after dinner, then watched Mulan. After that our Mulan laid down across the floor and fell deep asleep. Boo finally fell asleep at her normal bed time. Ariel didn't sleep on the entire 10 hour drive.

At 11:45 we entered out hotel room. Sigh. I'll say only this and you can fill in all the blanks. I checked for bedbugs thoroughly and for other kinds of bugs. No bedbugs but the other? Also, our toilet was broken and ran all the time, and yes, onto the floor. Shuddering while pondering it.

The bed was comfortable and I had been awake since 5, so I slept fine. Which I guess was the point. But still. We won't be sleeping there again!

It had been a great day, for a day that started with work and ended in a 10 hour drive and a hotel dive.

What would our sleeping quarters be like the next night???

was very uneventful. The kids were good. Buzz played his DS for 10 hours straight (when his ran out of batteries, he switched out for someone else's). McQueen and Jack Jack were in the back seat coloring, playing, watching movies, etc. McQueen decided within an hour or so that this "fun" road trip really wasn't so "fun". And Milo, myself, and Charming listened to a road trip mix that Charming had put together. Surprisingly entertaining, as he listens to classic rock pretty exclusively.

This was very interesting, because it had been a long, drawn out discussion and decision between Perla and me what kind of place to go with. I have come to terms with my aging self and growing family and am ready to retire the "roadside motels" of my youth and settle on spending a little more for a nicer suite hotel. Perla, is not quite there yet and we wanted to stay together. So, we settled on a day's inn off I-95 we got for $55.00/night. We had 2 double beds and I have 6 people. So Milo and I slept with Jack Jack between us and the other 3 boys shared the other bed. CROWDED :scared1: It is official, we can not fit in a double/double room. I was awake by 4:45am and no way could fall back asleep and looked over at poor Buzz in the other bed. I have no idea how he was not falling out of that bed. His head and feet were hanging off the side. Fortunately, they're kids and didn't seem worse for the wear the next day. But needless to say, we like Perla and her family, left and didn't look behind, never planning on staying there again.

It was a hard decision about the hotel. The main struggle is that Suzy has a family of 6. This makes Priceline difficult for her. She needs to do Hotwire, which is more expensive and limiting. And Hotwire in our target area on spring break had 1 & 2 stars which seemed yucky and still expensive and 4 stars which were well over a hundred dollars. For 8 hours sleep $150.00 seemed extreme. If we did Priceline she would need to get 2 rooms (they don't let you guarauntee 2 double beds on Priceline) thus making it more expensive for them. So we compromised on a 2.5 star just on Travelocity. Ugh! Never again. We have been very spoiled by spending less money for more hotel via Hotwire and Priceline to go back!

I can't remember the last time I stayed in such a dive. We aren't super picky in my family (Suzy's family IS picky) and when we went to Williamsburg we stayed in a relatively yucky place. Suzy wouldn't have been happy. But it was clean and functional and had a full kitchen so we were A-ok. But our room at this Georgia hotel was NOT ok. I don't like feeling like there are cooties. Guess it's time to send Priceline my big thank you letter for making my life so great and spoiling me so much!

Surprisingly I slept great in the ick. I do think the sheets were clean. They were certainly crisp and scratchy. If that equals clean. I got up at 5:30 a.m. to use the broken facilities and surprisingly fell into a light sleep again. But by 6:00 I was awake and Suzy sent me a little text, "You awake?"

We texted a bit about our day. Planning, as always. Donald got up and started showering and I got the girls up. When I went to wake Boo up she did NOT want to get up. I asked,

"Do you want to go to Disney World today?"
"NO!"
"You don't want to ride rides?"
"NO! Uhm, yeah." And she was up.

We put our Fort t-shirts on only to discover at breakfast that Suzy and clan were saving them for dinner. Great idea, so they wouldn't get dirty but it was too late. Suzy was very frazzled when she arrived. Her morning had not been smooth.

What I mainly recall about breakfast is this: The coffee was AWFUL! McQueen was being a weirdo germ freak and insisted on getting different breakfast, a waffle here, a muffin there, a juice, and then a milk and eating none of it as germs were everywhere. This was a bit stressful. I also remember a regal elderly lady who was well dressed and very particular about her breakfast. I wondered what in the world she was doing there! Here's us eating breakfast:

IMG_4646.jpg

By 8:21 we were on the road. At the Florida line we made the rule Disney only songs till Disney! We literally switched the music at the line. The traffic wasn't as bad as I expected and the ones traveling had car top carriers and bike racks. Evidently we were not alone in our spring break plans.

At 11:00 am Ariel started asking me if we were there yet every 5 minutes. Here's another tip: Bring surprise presents that you hold back till the VERY end of the drive. It will surprise you how nice this is. It's always that last hour that is the killer.

I texted Suzy I had pulled out the surprise presents to stop the kids whining and she asked if I had one for her cause she was ready to be there!

We got off at exit 80 as I had found a Taco Bell next to a Super Walmart and we thought that would suit our needs. It was only 3 minutes from the highway to Taco Bell but it as NOT the nicest part of Orlando and Suzy decided Walt would be horrified to imagine guests coming to his perfect world down this road.

Taco Bell ended up being on the wrong side of the road and we went quickly into it, thus losing Suzy & Milo. But with cell phones they were quickly turned around and back.

Donald and I decided to get 2 $5.00 meals and waters to drink. LOTS of food for $10.00! We even had a bit left over to give Charming. While the other adults were ordering I wiped down the tables and got the kids arranged.

This was a pretty fast and painless meal. And we were off to Super Wal-Mart. If you've read my previous TR's you'll know I'm not a big fan of the Orlando Super-Walmart. This one, however, wasn't overly crowded. It really was super! It's the one on Sand Lake road. The speedy check out was ridiculously speedy, too.

We got cold medicine (of course, we always have colds.) I wanted to get a tarp. I talked Donald into getting the jumbo tarp which turned out to be HUGE! Whoops! And other odds and ends and, of course, refrigerated food we couldn't bring from home. The only eventful thing that happened here was they did not have Bagelfuls. What? Seriously, we need these for our easy breakfasts. We tried to recover, but the Bagelfuls would have been nice. My family mostly ate poptarts for breakfast.

Suzy and Milo took just a tiny bit longer than us so while we waited for them I took pics of our vans.
IMG_4647.jpg

The Mouse ears are a permanent part of my van. And Donald bought me as a gift a "my other car is a monorail" bumper sitcker to go above them.

IMG_4648.jpg

The basically not obscene Mickeys on Suzy's van.
IMG_4650.jpg

From there we hopped onto Sandlake Road and went to get back on I-4 again. We sat at the longest light EVER!!! It probably was only 1 minute but we were finally 5 miles from WDW and it was very annoying to be forced to sit there.

As soon as we were on the highway we saw:
IMG_4651.jpg

And then!!!!!!!!!!!
IMG_4652.jpg

Woohoo!!!!!

And...
IMG_4653.jpg

Finally, prepare yourselves as this was really exciting:
IMG_4654.jpg

Then, this next photo is important. I am our navigator. Donald drives. He is terrible as a navigator both in the driver seat and passenger seat. I thought since we were on Disney property with great Disney signs he should be able to follow the signs. They are giant and purple and everywhere (see above photos for reference.) So I said, "Just follow the signs from here." And stopped giving direction. Because I was taking pictures. Because of this he missed this sign, which clearly existed since I have a photo of it:
IMG_4655.jpg

So we drove to the Contemporary. Sigh. It wasn't that big of a deal but it became a bigger deal as the week went on. He never successfully followed a single sign on his own.

We were then further delayed when I insisted on stopping and getting this picture:
IMG_4657.jpg

And that, is where I leave you. Suzy & Milo were at check in wondering where in the world we were.

Next up: Setting up camp!
