Suzy and Perla Skip the Lines Again: From roughing it to the lap of luxury

M-I-C-K-E-Y!!!!

It was OUR turn. Hi Mickey!
Photo0481FourBySix.jpg

I would really appreciate if you all would not share this particular tip with anyone. It allows Suzy and I to spend less than 45 minutes meeting characters (other than princesses/fairies if my girls want princesses) for our whole trip and not HAVE to do character meals and if it were to, say, get published somewhere our great plan might be foiled. Just sayin'. It's that good of a tip.

I LOVE this picture! How great that the PP photographer got it.

This is a great tip!! I'm afraid I am going to be in commando mode when we hit the parks, so having an idea of best time for to see Characters here is really helpful. And my lips are sealed. ;)

Sorry I've been missing in action! As has been mentioned, Suzy and I work together at our family business (Donald and Milo work there too). The beginning of May found us effected by the slow economy and boring, rainy weather which, since we run a heating and cooling company, weather is EVERYTHING. Though personally we hate 100 degrees and 40 degrees below zero, our pocketbooks love extreme temperatures. So to keep things to the good financially, we laid off about 1/3 of our staff for a few weeks. This meant that Donald, Milo, Suzy, and myself have put in MANY, MANY hours doing all the work our staff does. And making a zillion mistakes that we then had to fix so it took us twice as long as it takes them. It was good for us. It'll make us better bosses. But I'm SUPER grateful to report we invited many of them back for Monday and I can now get back to the more important things, like writing my Disney TR and planning my June trip!

Perla and Suzy, Sorry so slow to respond to your great advice, my job is very busy this time of year. Your advice has been great and your outlook on life and raising children is even better. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Is the touring plans app you mentioned worth the $$$ in your opinion? AK looks great so far looking forward to more.

I can certainly understand being busy at work.

I've been slow to answer your question. Thankfully, Suzy stepped in. But I do want to say a few things too. I'm sure you're shocked. Cause normally I have nothing to say about practical Disney advice. :rotfl:

First, all of us have them. In many pictures you see one of us adults looking at our phone. I'm sure all the naysayers say we are horrible parents who aren't in the moment when they see us tied to our phones. But the truth is we are mostly looking at our Disney aps. Checking ride wait times, FP return times, picking out which CS we want to eat at and having the kids pick what to eat before getting to the restaurant to make ordering more efficient, etc. I'd say 90% of the time we are looking at our phones, we are checking practical Disney info. And since we don't wait in lines, we have to do this quickly since we average about 3-5 minutes of line waiting per ride. And, true confession, on boring baby rides like Triceratop Spin, I spend the ride looking at a Disney ap.

So here's the breakdown:
WDW Waits: free. It gives you user submitted wait times organized by park and then park area. For a free site it's great. But very basic. No FP information at all. I give it 8 on a scale of 1-10.

WDW Hours: free. It gives you WDW hours, parade and fireworks times. And some other things, like the entertainment around World Showcase. But not the DHS showtimes. Making it about a 5. If it had DHS showtimes, I'd rank it higher.

Disney's own ap which is free and stupid. Walt Disney World I think is what it is called. Essentially it links you to their smart phone internet page which promises great info but doesn't deliver. I should delete it, I never use it.

WDW Dining: $1.99 All the CS. All the TS. All the menus. All the pricing. Ranked a 9. Must have. Easily save the $1.99 by ordering the right food to begin with.

Undercover Tourist Disney World: $3.99 This is organized by park. On the home page it tells you whether a park is red, yellow, or green crowd wise. It has restaurants with menus and prices. It also has rides and whether there are fastpasses left but doesn't have FP return times. It also doesn't have showtimes at DHS. And it has a tendency to crash right when I need it. Still, it doesn't require an annual membership and it has all the basics you need. If you get this, you probably don't need to spend the $1.99 on WDW Dining, even though I like WDW Dining better for food. It's easier. I'd rank it a 7. It is worth $3.99 for sure.

Lines by Touring Plans: Free but requires an active annual membership to www.touringplans.com. More than one iphone can use the same membership so wives and husbands can share one account and each have an ap. It has the actual touring plans which is very nice (though we don't need this feature since we already know everything.) It tells you which park is best for that day and which park is worst. It gives you the overall WDW crowd ranking. Today, for example, is 4 out of 10. It tells you where EMH is. The hours of each park. Wait times, FP return times, AND DHS show times. Making it and WDW Dining the only two aps you actually should buy. I give it a 10 out of 10. Not to mention, touringplans.com brought out a new crowd ranking system and updated their site this year making me, a die hard Tour Guide Mike follower, switch to touringplans. They made poor Mike with his antiquated site almost obsolete. It pains me to say this as Mike has made many, many happy vacations for us with his great advice. But you know me, I have to tell it like it is. Despite my loyal feelings.

And that is my ap tips. There are other aps. But the above are the only ones I've kept/tried so any others you'll have to look elsewhere.

I totally agree with both your comments on Morocco food: Didn't really enjoy my TS meal at Marrakesh, but did enjoy my CS meal at the Tangierine Cafe.

And for those comments, We in Canada love you! (Hearing my provincial anthem "We stand on guard", and also the national anthem "O Canada" often will bring a tear to my eye!)
.................

Mostly because their feet are sore and they are tired, and they really would rather be in your stroller/scooter. :rotfl:

If it helps, we could co-ordinate trips sometime, and I'll stand behind you in the drink lineup, and act as a stand-in for him, and you can buy me that beer! :thumbsup2
I know what you mean tho! "Be that person": the one that makes a difference, whether it's just to one person or to society in general.

Glad you agree with our Morocco review. I hate to be a negative Nelly about eateries in the parks as most have some good features to them and people should try for themselves. But I do have to be honest, ya know?

As for Canada, I've been to Ontario (Toronto, Niagra Falls, and area) and I've spent some time in upper Quebec and Montreal. Gorgeous. Donald and I love Montreal. It's a little slice of Europe without the hefty airfare. We even went to a playoff hockey game there to get a true feel for the country. We like beautiful sites, but we also like different cultures. I know, I know Canada and the US mostly have the same culture, but not all. Thus the hockey game. :lmao: Some day, probably when we don't have to pay for the kids, we'd love to do a Canadian Rocky trip and another trip to Vancouver area. Someday.

I took a photo at the zoo yesterday to upload to the Too Big For Strollers blog. But then I decided to just amuse you all on here instead. This is Buzz plopping down in Jack's stroller and McQueen and Ariel saying, "Hey, you can't be in there!":

That beer is all yours! :rotfl:

I LOVE this picture! How great that the PP photographer got it.

This is a great tip!! I'm afraid I am going to be in commando mode when we hit the parks, so having an idea of best time for to see Characters here is really helpful. And my lips are sealed. ;)

I know! She's a great photographer. And thanks for keeping our secret. ;)

I am enjoying this trip report so much. Instead of reading my new book from the library, I spent last night reading this--and when I hit the end, I started on one of your old trip reports! You and your sister do a great job of capturing exactly what it's like to be in the parks with a bunch of kids. Thanks so much for writing this.

After our snack, we showed our FP's and handed over our strollers at the safari. For those of you that haven't been, at Kilimanjaro Safari the stroller parking is deep into the line. You just take the strollers with you & there are CM's that take them from you halfway down.

And then we continued on our merry way. The truck before us had a wheelchair and so there was a bit of truck confusion and then it was our turn. For all the complaining done on here, WDW does an amazing job of dealing with special needs without throwing off the ride traffic too much. You notice, but really only for a moment if you are actually at the front of the line right when it is happening.

We got on our truck and we were off. Our driver was named Beverly. This is not something I normally would remember. I do have it written down, but I would remember regardless. As Beverly used her own name constantly. And LOVED LOVED LOVED animals. I also believe that she believed she was really in Africa. I'm sure of it. I wonder where in Orlando she lives? If I were to guess it would be out in the middle of nowhere next to one of those lakes.

Our family, I'll just confess straight up and deal with your wrath, are not really animal lovers. We ARE nature lovers. LOVE nature. Donald and I and our family take hikes and go to national parks and could spend most of our lives outside enjoying the world at large.

But animals themselves are just part of nature to us as a whole. Not singled out as friends. We hate the ruining of the environment, the destruction of their native homelands, etc. I don't want you all to think we are haters. It's just that, like you can tell from this TR, we are MUCH more practical than sentimental. The life cycle happens. And I'm ok with that. And Suzy and McQueen and Ariel are VERY allergic to animals. Hives and asthma allergic. So we keep our distance. We do have a cat but it lives outside and I yell at McQueen and Ariel when they try to touch him.

I do want to say, before I lose readers, I do understand a deep love and attachment animals. Intellectually I grasp that dogs can actually help the elderly and infirm live longer and fuller lives. And I'm glad there are people who love to help animals. I just lose interest myself.

I say all this because Beverly lost me about 2 minutes in. Oh My Goodness. Here is what I like on my safari, or zoo trip, or wildlife walk. I like to oooo and aaaah over the animals. I like to take a bunch of pictures and try to get a few great ones. And I like to have a knowledgeable guide to point out things like the two different kinds of giraffes and how you can tell they are different.

What I don't like is my guide to speak of themselves a lot. And get lectures about animals. In a lovey dovey weird kind of way.

Sigh. Jack-Jack, Boo, and Ariel loved the safari as they always do. Ariel does have a sentimental attachment to animals and Boo loves to possess animals like holding frogs and bugs and our poor cat. But they were young enough to just ignore Beverly completely. So she made no impact. And the animal viewing itself was GREAT this day.

People try to tell you the animals are better first thing in the morning. I have never found this to be the case. In fact, I think it is a lie. Both at AK and at the Columbus zoo yesterday (more on that later) the animals were plenty busy into the heat of the day.

It may be true about lions, but lions sleep like 23 hours a day. I'm not going to plan my AK trip around the chance that I might hit the magic hour the lion decides to get up and walk around. We did the safari just before noon and the animal viewing was super. I tried to control myself, however, as I don't have a great camera and I already have pictures of these animals with my junky camera. Why do I need more? But just to amuse myself, I took a few.

First off, here is Buzz losing interest in the first 5 minutes of the ride. And Jack being mesmerized:

Donald video taping and Charming chilling and trying to tune out the lecture:
IMG_1459.jpg

IMG_4990.jpg

IMG_4992.jpg

IMG_4998.jpg

When we got off (had to wait for wheelchair again and listen to more lecture) Donald said, "That wasn't as fun as normal."
To which I said, "The animals were way better than normal. It was a great safari. You just are exhausted from "Animals are better than people 101."
And he replied, "You're right! That lady exhausted me!"
And I said, "Now I don't like either Beverly available at WDW."

But enough about that. I am now happy to report, and you'll be happy too once we get further into this TR and you see my sadness and frustration, that I have a NEW CAMERA! It isn't just a point and shoot but instead is a real camera, but still easy (read: fine for brainless people like me) to use. So below are pictures from the Columbus Zoo yesterday. I repeat, these are NOT from WDW. But are for you to compare and get a little preview for our June trip:

DSCN0123.jpg

What do you think? Did you compare? I'm hoping in addition to taking better animal and action photos I might get better food pictures. My old camera takes terrible food pictures.

It won't slide into my pocket, so that is a negative, but it wasn't too annoying yesterday and I plan on getting a better, more comfortable strap.

Also, the zookeepers yesterday were amazing and gave us the perfect amount of animal information. Just enough to enrich our animal viewing. Really a great day. Though Suzy and I both were unprepared for the humidity. Uh-oh! Anyone remember what Florida is like? :rotfl:

Coming up: A nice spot for lunch.

:) Thanks! I, too, have put aside a real book for a Trip Report. It's kind of like reading a travel book, I think, except with pictures. It's like reading a travel journal written for kids. And sometimes that's just what you need on a Friday night to escape from the work week!

You can really tell the difference in your cameras. The zoo pictures are great. The one with the polar bear jumping into the water is amazing.

After the safari, it was time for lunch. There is a little spot with 4-6 tables in it right across from Flights of Wonder and that is normally where we eat. It is quiet and cool and near the Yak and Yeti CS place in Asia. The official eating area behind this CS is in sunlight, crowded, and small. So we like this alternate area. This day, however, it was not empty and quiet. AK was ranked above a 9 out of 10 crowd wise this day and it felt like it. We left Donald and Milo there to wait for the families at the tables to finish while Suzy, myself, Mulan, and another child, maybe Charming? went to order. WDW is excellent at crowds and so this should have been fine. But it wasn't.

The registers were not working. And it was peak lunch time so the line kept growing and growing. They ended up having a cash only line and did everything else old school. Truthfully it was absolute chaos. I felt SO BAD for the CM's. You know how great they are but this was worst case scenario and it wasn't going well. The smiles were more plastered on their faces than really being there and being the people pleaser that I am, I would have been having heart palpitations if I was a cashier. It was bad.

Oh, and the line is in direct sunlight so it just got hotter and hotter and more and more packed. Suzy was in one line and I was in the other and we were fairly close to the front. So we knew we wouldn't have a forever line. But seeing the line behind us and knowing what was coming when those people got to the front, we were quite stressed out FOR the CM's. I can only imagine their innards.

We got to the front and my cash register was working enough to take our DDP credits. I ordered honey chicken, fried rice, and egg rolls. And an amber beer for Donald. I would not have been able to get this accomplished without Mulan. It was just sheer mayhem and not even quality writing nor photos would be able to explain the emotion hanging right under that awning. Mulan & I got our forks, napkins, and soy sauce and got the heck out of Dodge. Suzy was not so lucky and was gone much longer than us.

It also was dangerous to carry trays full of food back down to our eating spot as there were SO many people. Especially since there are no lids on drinks at AK due to the harm they can cause animals when not properly disposed of.

But, much to my delight, because of our delay, people had left and Donald and Milo had each just secured a table. Donald told me he had received many a glare from other families, first for "hovering" and then for sitting without food. I know this is a hotly debated topic here, but in real life you do what you can and you try to be fair while still securing an enjoyable vacation for yourselves. It's a balancing act. Once we were settled, I felt the guilt as well as there were many families that filled the stairs and edges of this area. It wasn't the quiet spot it normally was, but it was still one of the best spots on such a busy day.

First, here is the view from this special spot:
IMG_1460.jpg

Second, here are all the tables:
IMG_1463.jpg

See why we like it? It's perfect!
Suzy's boys were quite sad that we were eating before them. And then poor Milo didn't get a beer and Donald did. Whoops! The perk of having two families is when one gets a snack or a break, your family gets it too even when it wouldn't have been your parent's choice. The negative is when one family gets something cool or first, you are forced to see what you are missing/waiting for.

But she was there pretty soon:
IMG_5004.jpg

I am normally the one who orders the wrong food. Either too much or too little. But this time I was dead on. Suzy, on the other hand, had this left:
IMG_0956.jpg

She had 3 full drinks and almost 2 full meals left. Oops! She'd been trying to use her CS credits properly but clearly something went awry here.

We consolidated our food to one table and made the kids who are slower eaters (and those who got their food later) move as there were more and more people looking for tables. There was a lovely family who had just sat down on the ground and were trying to settle. So we helped them get set up at the table before another family snagged it and we enjoyed the view while our group finished up:
IMG_5006.jpg

We then packed up and split. Donald took Charming, Mulan, and Ariel to ride EE. This is a family favorite for all of us but since Boo and Jack-Jack can't ride and we have annual passes and can ride it again soon, the rest of us skipped it. Buzz often will skip thrill rides. But I'm not sure why McQueen skipped it. The good news, though, is that meant there were 11 FP's for 4 people to use. They ended up riding three times. The last time Charming sacrificed and rode single rider alone. He said he was richly rewarded for his giving attitude and got coupled with a really cute girl. He said it was the best EE ride ever.

He also wanted me to say in this TR that there weren't enough single riders and there were a ton of holes left on each car and to tell you if you can't get here at rope drop and have mostly teens/adults skip the FP and just ride single rider.

Donald is VERY good about getting Photopass pictures whenever available:
Photo0636FourBySix.jpg

And we all love making faces for the camera:
IMG_0957.jpg

The rest of us headed over to the Lion King. I'm going to complain a bit. Disney Imagineers are AMAZING. Love them. And I do love the feel of AK. However, they were going for a marketplace feel in some areas. This I cannot understand. Have they never been to a developing country's marketplace? Sooo not enjoyable for parents. One time, years ago when I was a teenager, we went to a marketplace in Mexico and were nearly crushed to death. It's loud, hot, and terrifyingly crowded. If the Mexican guy who was in charge of me (we stayed with friends) had not said to hold on to his hand and not let go no matter what happened, I would have been lost in that crowd.

Another time, when I was only 7 when we were in a marketplace in Israel and I STILL remember it. My dad told us he was the mother hen and we were his chicks and we were to stay behind him at all times. We were in a little duck-like line holding on the the person behind us and he was the Mack truck out front elbowing his way through the aggressive shoppers while chicken's heads were chopped off, blood and feathers flying, to our right and left.

These are my childhood memories of the kind of marketplaces they are trying to replicate at AK.

So I ask you, when you think Disney, do you think kid-crushing, chicken-killing chaos?

Well, on a 9.4 out of 10 day it's actually not that hard to imagine. And it is a BIG reason why Suzy and I keep our kids in strollers till 5 or 6. People were everywhere and it was a full out crush. And people were CRANKY. Let me tell you, even if strollers and wheelchairs and scooters were banned at WDW it would still be awful on spring break week at 1:00 at AK. Actually, it'd probably be worse because kids would either be lost or on their parent's shoulders (making parent's crankier) and the elderly and infirm would have crutches, canes, and walkers and be going very, very slowly. Truth be told, it would be SUPER awful.

So here is my complaint, Disney Imagineers: What were you thinking when you created the walkway that mimics a narrow, marketplace feel to Camp Minnie Mickey and scheduled Lion King shows to bring crowds both ways at the exact same time?

Did I mention the cranky people?

We, of course, were NOT cranky. And I like to think the Mickey magical universe thanked us by giving us super cool seats in the Lion section at the 1:30 FOTLK showing. Best seats ever and I thought our LAST LK viewing we had the best seats ever so that tells you how great these seats were.

IMG_1220.jpg

Right? Right? Great spot!

Boo was sooo tired she really just wanted to sleep but she loves it so much she stayed awake. McQueen was frustrated because no matter where he was he couldn't really see. It IS hard being short. Plus, you get settled and the little ones can see and then they ask you to scooch so more people can fit. Then the little ones are behind someone tall again. So we re-situated ourselves about 10 times before finally settling into the show. At least it kept Boo awake!

Oh, and our singers were GREAT this time. Sometimes you get one that isn't up to par and it's really obvious because the other 3 are so wonderful. But this time they were great. Scar just sends chills down your spine. Love that song with that deep, resonant voice.

Our timing was perfect and our show ended just as they got off the third time. We headed up front where they were waiting for us near the last gift shop trying on hats and looking at pins and trading pins with the CM.

Some hopped on the tram. But our cars were close-ish so some walked. Truthfully, I can't remember which group I was in but I think the walking group as Boo was nearly asleep.

I am happy to report that we drove right to our campsite. Back to harassing poor Donald. Once he has been someplace for a bit, he never gets lost. I guess he's a landmark guy instead of a sign guy. Too bad for him, we switched resorts the very next day so he only drove to the fort one time after getting his bearings.

Coming up: The pool and dinner.

You can really tell the difference in your cameras. The zoo pictures are great. The one with the polar bear jumping into the water is amazing.

Thanks for the input! If I fall in love with it, it might be a stepping stone to a full out "real" camera. We have the HD video camera so our pictures need to be better to seamlessly fit into our videos. Is your name because you love movies or make movies?

There is a reason parents like us tour commando style. It isn't because we like to tour commando style. It's because you don't get to relax when you are a parent of young kids anyway. Whether you are sitting or standing or walking or touring, you are still working your butt off. So this was to be our "off day" where we chill at the resort. But we are parents. So we don't get to chill. That's how it works. So truth be told, Suzy and I really dislike resort time as swimming & playing at playgrounds is WAY more work for us than touring where we at least get to sit down in a.c. every once in awhile and the children are entertained every second of the day instead of being entertained for a little while and then being thirsty, hungry, fighting, or most annoying of all, BORED. And if you are in a hotel room "relaxing" you get to listen to Spongebob Squarepants. Ugh.

Once back at our campsite, it was pure chaos as bathing suits were grabbed and thrown on STAT! Because heaven forbid the children have to wait a single second while another child gets a swimming suit/sunblock on. We did our walk through the woods and over the bridge walk to the pool.

The pool was a zoo. Which, as you parents know, means lots of kids. And where kids elsewhere might be nice and polite and obedient, kids in a pool are all about them, mean spirited, and VERY splashy. Public pools bring out the worst in both adults and kids. Everyone, even those who are normally loving, feel that in a pool they are the most important person in the world. And no rules apply to them. And they are vocal in pointing out our flaws. This means that no matter what choice you make, someone will point out that you are annoying them.

For example, we got in trouble this week for: swimming, running, throwing a soft, small football, splashing, laying on a chair while saving the chair beside us, getting our towels incorrectly (later in the week, we had our own towels here), etc, etc. Whereas elsewhere at WDW people who are disapproving will give you disapproving looks, in the main pools they are more than willing to actually yell at you and yes, swear words are acceptable.

I, personally, hate public pools like this. That's why both Suzy & I are willing to do the work to have our own pools at home. Much more peaceful.

Really, I suppose, it isn't THAT bad, but you can see we don't spend a lot of time in Disney pools. It isn't because we are bad parents and it isn't because our kids don't love pools. It's because there isn't a lot of Disney magic in Disney pools at mid-day. My opinion, my opinion. You may have totally different results.

So we get to the pool and Suzy and I find a little spot in the shade. Milo finds himself a spot WAY far away from us so he can be in the bright sunshine and actually get to relax without having to perform any duties that might come if he sits near the moms. Donald and Charming took the rest of the kids into the big pool.

First, I fixed my kid's goggles. Then Milo offered to get Suzy & I pina coladas. He arrives back with them at the same moment that McQueen comes and says he doesn't have his goggles. I say I have an extra pair. I get them arranged for his head but he then decides they just won't do. Suzy then volunteers to walk the 20 minutes round trip back to the campsite to get them. Me? No way I would have done this. That's why Suzy's kids are luckier than mine.

While back at the campsite she took these photos, while it was nice and calm:
P3220132.jpg

P3220133.jpg

And I took these from my chair:
My view of the pool:
IMG_5014.jpg

My view of the sidewalk right next to me and the river:
IMG_5015.jpg

My view of the single worst pina colada I've ever had. SKIP THIS DRINK!
IMG_5016.jpg

Right after I took these pictures McQueen came over and asked about his goggles. I told him it was going to be a LONG time and not to pester me. So he gave me about 30 seconds and came back and asked me again. I said not yet. He came back about 6 times before I said, "Sit down." He didn't. Then I said, "Listen. If I were your mom I wouldn't have gotten you the goggles. So you are VERY lucky your mom did that. And if she comes back and you have an attitude about HOW LONG SHE TOOK she will never be this nice again. So you can sit here and not talk to me again till she comes back. Or you can go away and not come back until you actually see her. Those are your choices. And again, I better hear a grateful attitude when she gets back here. I mean it. A real 'thank you'."

He chose to go away.

Then Boo needed me. Then I went and took pictures that turned out blurry. Then McQueen asked me about the goggles again. Then Ariel came to tell me a story about how horrible all the kids in the pool were. And then, and then. I did relax for about 2 minutes. It was really nice.

Then Suzy did come back and McQueen was there instantly. The goggles did make him happy and it was probably the right choice. But I still wouldn't have made it.

Then Suzy sat down in our lovely spot in the shade and said, "This is the single worst pina colada I've ever had!" I just nodded knowingly.

Then Jack-Jack came over with Charming as he wanted to go to the little kid pool and Charming wanted to play football. So Suzy went over there. Then I saw Boo dashing off to go there so I moved over there too.

IMG_1222.jpg

The slide on this thing was crazy crawling with kids so it took some parenting to keep the children from getting injured because, of course, it's a public pool so it's every man for himself and if I have to shove you head first down the slide, so be it.

IMG_5019.jpg

Do you see the hidden Mickey's on my toes?
IMG_5021.jpg

Mulan throwing the tiny, soft football that made the people at the Dolphin later in the week proclaim Charming to be the evilest, least considerate person ever born.

IMG_5022.jpg

And that's all the photos I have of the pool. I took a bunch but my camera was really starting to break and it was taking awful photos when it did work.

My conclusion: Pool time at WDW is essential. Your kids will demand it and it's hot out. But it isn't very fun for Mom. I did enjoy our September time in the POR pool but that is because it was empty. I actually got in the pool. Here, I refused. This would probably be enjoyable in September and early December. But not on a peak week.

After this we went back and changed, hung our bathing suits up on the lines, and headed back past the pool to the marina. Here is the walk we took many times:
IMG_1224.jpg

And this is where Suzy's week went a little of course for 12 hours. It still had some Disney magic, but not quite as much.

Milo and Donald got some alcoholic beverages and took the kiddos to the playground while Suzy and I stood in line at the carry out line at the Trails to Go place. We came up with a genius plan to use some CS credits and a bit of money and get our families great meals. But there was about a 20 minute wait. There was no place to wait and they don't call you, you have to just stand there in this tiny area. It was the opposite of fun. And for Suzy, who had been on "MomPatrol" at the pool and walked an extra mile, it was REALLY not fun.

Meanwhile, Donald, who thought it would be funny, sent me the following photo:
IMG_0967.jpg

The caption was "We're waiting too long so we got our own food."

This was not really very funny. And so I told him so. He immediately texted back that a family had given them the pizza for free and since the kids were starving, they let them have some. Well, ok. Free pizza? I guess that's ok.

So I was fine with it. Plus, Donald had done his dad duty at the pool and taken care of my kids 50/50 with me so we were fair.

Milo, on the other hand, had chilled the entire time at the pool. So they were NOT in a fair area of the mom/dad ratio.
IMG_0968.jpg

And instead of sensing the emotional tension oozing off Suzy, Milo would NOT let it go. Not via text and not in person.

In this photo Milo is off to Suzy's left chanting, "free pizza, free pizza."

IMG_1225.jpg

To my shock, he even mentioned that stupid free pizza in the quick family prayer he said before eating. Seriously. Milo can drive something into the ground. And when you're a mom who has spent 4 days living in a tent taking care of 5 men, being a pack horse, being the FP collector, and taking care of needy, introverted men who refuse to ride public transportation you don't really need to have "ha, ha, you worked so hard and we don't need you one twit" rubbed in your face.

Plus, Suzy can't really let things go. Me? This is when I fall 100% silent. Which is odd because silence isn't really my thing. But in my head I was just willing her to not say another word so he'd just go away. But it didn't really work. He didn't listen to me willing him to stop being mean and she didn't listen to me willing her to give him the silent treatment. People don't normally obey my mind powers. Guess I'm not a Jedi.

This food is DELISH!!!

The setting isn't too shabby either:

Donald & I only had one little exchange of words here. It's when he said, "You guys got a LOT of food!" :lmao: To which I said, irritated, "We got the EXACT right amount of food. You got a free pizza. Let it drop." Evidently he had been eating and not really paying attention to what was happening in the other universe.

There are tetherballs everywhere at the fort:
IMG_5028.jpg

Again, this wasn't as relaxing as it should have been. Resort time is stupid.

Just wanted to say we had ordered a pizza too, so they ate the whole one before we got there with our 2 buckets of chicken and side dishes and another whole pizza.

Perla, the info on the apps is much appreciated! Enjoying the pictures tremendously. Interested to see how the time in the tents continues to work out. I hope June doesn't prove to be as busy as your trip times seem to be. Where is the camera shot on EE it has been three years since I rode it last and can't remember. When my youngest first rode it, we will call him Frozone because he is so cool (ha!, ha!), was tall enough to ride in 06' as soon as we got in the car on EE he said he had to pee... I made him hold it thinking oh great there will be puddle on the ride when we are done. Well we made it off the ride and all of us were so pumped we forgot he had to pee. So we looked up and couldn't find him, until we spotted him just off the path behind a bench letting it go. We all circled around him and gave it the "doing the best I can look possible". It was really priceless if not truly humiliating.

EDIT "We have posted about the same time didn't see your Fort report because I was writing. You posted quicker than I did.

Great installment! I'm tucking away some of these tips for my next trip!

Thanks for sharing your trip with us! :flower3:

Trail's End, for us, can be iffy when it comes to food.

The breakfast buffet? Wonderful and a tradition...even if the food choices has diminished over the years.

The dinner buffet? Makes me sick every time.

Giddyup and Go? WONDERFUL! One of the best values on property IMO.

Pizza? We made that mistake. Once. :rotfl: It tasted like cardboard-covered ketchup with cheese. Although, I guess enough people like it that they still sell it, and if you're really hungry, it's much better than nothing.

I enjoyed your take on the Fort pool. We haven't been swimming there since they redid the pool.

Um, I was reading, then I left to go to the library with some kids, (you were at AK when I left, LOL). Then, I posted, then I found the rest of your posts.

My response doesn't seem appropriate after this post ;)

Sorry for the crazy fast posts! The way my weekdays are going I figured I need to write as much as possible on my relaxing weekends. Plus, I'm at my in-laws and Donald is changing out their air conditioners and my girls were at their cousin's so I was just here alone with nothing to do. Such luxury!

The camera shot on EE is right after the yeti rips up the track, down that hill.

As for the peeing: :lmao::lmao::lmao:. I'm sure others would be horrified but this is EXACTLY the kind of thing that happens to us all the time and the reason we are chill about following "rules." Kids are kids and good parents (IMHO) learn to go with the flow. Even if it's flowing off the side of a crowded AK walkway. :lmao:

Suzy & I checked out the dinner buffet and weren't impressed. But you are so right on the Giddyup and Go being a great value. It was GREAT! We kept that chicken on ice and then transferred it to the fridge at the Dolphin and I had it for breakfast the next 3 days. Great little protein treat versus the nasty Poptarts.

Sorry. I was a posting fool today!

That about sums it up. :lmao: Hilarious... For us... Not so much at the time, or for Suzy... :grouphug:

Clearly our families cannot be left to our own devices to entertain ourselves. :rotfl::rolleyes1

Again, this wasn't as relaxing as it should have been. Resort time is stupid.

I have to qualify this. Resort time for moms is stupid. The men and children had a GREAT time. Milo said that afternoon at the pool, drinking in the sun (and I mean drinking while sitting in the sun :rotfl:) and reading a book beside the pool was FINALLY vacation to him.:cool1:. But it's been years since I've had the luxury to sit in the sun with a drink and a book.

Ironically, though, you'll be surprised to hear.....This coming evening was my favorite part of our entire vacation. And it was still "resort time." So it's not all bad. ;) Stay tuned to find out how this not so fun afternoon turned into an awesome Disney evening.

After our lovely/awful (depending who you were) dinner, it was time to head back to the Campfire.

Of all things we were doing this week, it was this Donald and I were most looking forward to. He had such fond memories and had talked about it since I first met him when we were both 14. He remembered every detail of this, all about the Cowboy songs, and which movies he had first seen here, and what it looked like.

So back we walked down that cursed path from the beach back to Meadows. Suzy was slightly concerned we had taken too long eating dinner and would miss something as we were about 15 minutes late. As we approached the theater, however, it was obvious that no one was there. Uh-oh. If we had to sit around for 45 minutes the children would have melt downs.

And then we saw this:
IMG_0411.jpg

It did not take us long to realize the situation and that it was a COOL situation. We also were quite concerned that others would come and it would turn crowded and nuts. So we hopped right in to the festivities:

IMG_1230.jpg

We all had the BEST time and drew and played hopscotch with this tiny crowd and Chip and Dale and their handler for about 45 minutes. It was interesting as to little kids the characters are old friends that they never get to see. So when they first get to see them they go running and give them big hugs. But in this environment it took very little time for Chip and Dale to be treated just like little kids treat an other old friend, like a playmate. It became so normal to them that it was as if the characters weren't giant stuffed chipmunks at all, but instead were just another school aged friend.

Most interesting was the relationship that began between Chip and Buzz:

IMG_5032.jpg

Everyone contributed to the art work:
IMG_5035.jpg

Donald is a great artist and Chip and Dale loved everything he did
IMG_5040.jpg

Here you can see that Donald's art work actually became more popular than the chipmunks themselves as, like I said, the chipmunks had just become part of the crowd whereas Donald had distinguished himself as an interesting artist. This absolutely cracked me up, if only adults could see people without the boundaries of external costumes like kids can:
IMG_5041.jpg

Because Buzz had followed Chip around, he also became really good friends with Dale:
IMG_5042.jpg

Chip and Dale's handler took notice of Buzz and they ended up having quite the little friendship too.

After 45 minutes of truly, truly MAGICAL fun, the fires were begun.

TIP: If you do this, bring your own marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers. And sticks. Much, much cheaper and convenient than buying them there.

IMG_5043.jpg

I had eaten so much at dinner, and s'mores aren't really my thing, that we also had way too much s'mores stuff.

Here is Hayley, Chip and Dale's handler. We LOVE you Hayley (and yes, I told Disney survey about her in the "people who made your trip special" area.) She came over to have a little chitchat before the theater was full and asked us to save a seat in our row. It actually took more than one row to seat us and it wasn't as easy as you might imagine to keep a seat empty, even when you know something cool will happen if you do so.

IMG_5045.jpg

Here is someone NOT too full for a s'more.

IMG_5047.jpg

And others who aren't too full to eat s'mores:
IMG_5048.jpg

As we were making s'mores and monopolizing the right hand fire with another large family, it fell dark. Which made out glow jewelry seem like a genius idea. And then Cowboy Bob came out. Or whatever his second name was. This could very well be the same cowboy Donald remembers. It's doubtful, I know, but he was no spring chicken cowboy.
IMG_5049.jpg

Halfway through the Cowboy's set, the seat next to Buzz magically filled with an acceptable person:
IMG_5051.jpg

Here you can see just how "normal" this all became. Chip was a part of our family. The extra kid you bring along because one of your kids needs a friend. And quickly just becomes one of your own kids.
IMG_5052.jpg

IMG_5054.jpg

After this we danced. They had everyone come up and form a rough circle. We hokey pokeyed and chicken danced and did the other typical ridiculous dances that we all love. Chip stuck with us the whole time. I swapped my regular camera for our HD video camera so no photos for ya'll.

Here's a tip for you: Lots of parents on here say to buy glow necklaces and bracelets so you don't have to buy the expensive light up toys sold at night time shows. I say nonsense. You just spent $3000-10,000 on a WDW trip. You can't spring for the $15.00 light up toy? Seriously? Just buy your kids the light up toy and bring it back on subsequent trips. Our kids all have spinning light up Disney toys.

Here's the tip part: buy a TON of light up necklaces anyway. And the adults have to wear them too. Night time photos and videos are awful. Either flash is making it impossible to tell it's night or it's too dark to see your people. If you put glow necklaces on your people your night time videos and non-flash photos come to life and your family looks fun in the pictures.

Gotta go play cards with the in-laws. Stay tuned for the rest of our totally magical, super awesome, Fort Wilderness is the coolest evening.

Love, love, love your new camera pics. The polar bear shot is awesome. What kind of camera did you get?

I agree with you about the public pool chaos. Definitely not a relaxing way to spend an afternoon for mom. My two don't understand why I don't take them more often.

Sounds like Suzy needs to let Milo stand in the next food line and order for everyone. Maybe he might be a little more appreciative of her taking one for the team then. :sad1:

I remember going to an outdoor movie at the campgrounds as a kid and it seems like Chip and Dale were there. I don't remember the s'mores or the sidewalk chalk though. ;)
Is this available to any Disney resort guest or only campers?

Thanks for the phone apps, that was very helpful. I actually have a Touring Plans subscription right now and have been trying to make sense of why the best park is not the one with the lowest estimated crowd level.
