Suwanne music park (campground)

I know it doesnt help much, but I ALMOST stayed here. It is only about 4 hours from where I live and we were going to meet some friends there for an extended weekend. But they were booked when we went to make reservations, 5 months early. We keep talking about staying here but schedules never work out.

I do know they have bands there all of the time and it seems to be a party type atmospher.

Michael and I spoke on the phone about this place but I figured I'd put some info out there if anybody else wants it. The park is about the same size as the fort. The Suwannee River boarders it to the north which offers some great canoeing and kayaking experiences. There are certain times the Suwannee floods and the river is not to fun then. Across the street and down the road a little is a spring next to the river. It's small but offers a nice cooling off in the summer.

We've stayed here a few times. Mostly Labor Day and Memorial Day. They offer golf carts for $50 a day but the last I heard the batts go dead quickly and they don't have a huge fleet to replace you one if you complain. You can bring your own cart and there is a trail fee of $30 for the stay duration. $60 for holiday weekends and they have this big concert annualy called the Suwannee Music Jam and that is a $100 trail fee. They actually have some off road trails and fun places to ride.

There is a horse barn with hook ups for people with the living quarter trailers. No rentals just bring your own. There is a restaurant on site with pretty good food. There are 2 ampitheatre type places and behind the restaurant is a huge indoor place like a dining hall for indoor concerts and the like.

They recently added a nice store with supplies and food items. Not badly priced IIRC. They also have booths set up for arts and craft type businesses and there's a wood shop where a guy will make you a sign with your name for the campers.

They have a miniature golf area that's kinda themed and a fishing lake. I usually go there when we kayak and the canoe outpost will carry you up the river 2, 4 and 6 miles. You can either bring your own canoe or kayak or rent one. The fee for taking you up is like 10 bucks I think.

From what I understand the owners have visited the fort and had Jean Gallagher (former fort manager) visit them to compare the 2 places for activity purposes I guess. They have no campfire movie.

Prices vary for times of the year. We've always enjoyed our stay. I was hoping the fiends would do the Memorial Day GG there but I think we're doing Stone Mountain which I've heard great things about. I went as a kid and look forward to another visit. Just another FYI, during my last stay the bathrooms were clean but they're not as nice as they could be. This was the one in the big loop. There are a couple more I can't comment on. There is 1 big loop but many sites along side the main road. It's a beautiful piece of property and nicely shaded. The owners have some great ideas. They even have a wedding hall which comes in handy for those nights you feel like you need to get married lol.

Donnie - not only are you the Mayor of the Fort, you are the "go to" guy about most campgrounds in northern Florida! We were looking at the Suwannee Park online thinking it might be a nice weekend get-away. Thanks for sharing all the info. One question I have that I can't find on their site is about the RV sites. Are they paved? I could only find pictures of sites with tents. I know too well how that river swells during rainy times and that's the only reason I'd like a paved site.

BTW - I finally met Scott & Patty yesterday!! Woo-hoo!!! :yay:

Debbie I've never seen a paved site. Most are grass and dirt. I was there in the spring of last year and it looked as though the sites were grassed well and the park was very clean. If you ever go there let me know, I'd love to meet up with you and Rick. I'm wondering if you'd have to pay a trail fee for the GEM since it's got a license plate? I would think not.

Scott and Patty are fun. Did he offer you any vittles? The best time to meet Scott is at dinner time lol.

Maybe I'll visit there and do a trip report. We like kayaking there so maybe I will get some pics and video together so if anyone is interested they can get a better view of what they have.

Thanks for the site info. I don't mind a grassy site - as long as they are not dirt & gravel. The Fort has new "parking rules" for GEM cars. You cannot park them in a golf cart space. I call BULL!! The only cart lot I won't park the GEM in is the new one by the pool - cause it's so tight to maneuver in. You know how much I dislike the GEM (it's Rick's toy, not mine) and hopefully, this new rule will add strength to my arguement about unloading the GEM & going back to a Club Car!

No vittles were offered as we met them at TnBob's site while we were looping. :sad1:

ETA: Rick is considering buying me my very own golf cart, however, cause I'm wearing him down with all the byotching! LOL!!

When I was talking to Donnie the other day, we mentioned going to Suwanne for a weekend this summer, need to come up with a date. Who's up for going???
