Since it is your own responsibility. You don't mind if the government takes away your Soc. Security and Medicare right? Since it is your own responsibility. They can take your portion and apply it to the national deficit. The benefits at these industries wee the perks of working at the Big Three. People gave alot in those plants. Some even gave limbs. Some struggle from lung issues from being locked in those doors. I feel for those poor folks that were promised to be compensated the rest of their lives. If the Big Three wish to stand behind their employees instead of sending them on their merry way then more power to them. At least there are still some places with a little integrity. I will continue to buy my American made products whenever possible because it is not all about "me" and what "I" can get. It's about a larger picture that not too long ago we as Americans use to understand. Now it's, "Stick it to the man." We had pride in America!

No, I don't plan to rely on social security or medicare to take care of me. As you have said they operate in a deficit and have for several years. They will likely be completely bankrupt well before I retire and I will never see a dime of the money I put in. They are yet another example of wasteful spending, and a broken system. They aren't doing any better than US auto companies right now. My argument is that with a little adjustment to the way they do things, American automakers could produce a quality product at a competitve price, pay a competitive wage and provide reasonable benefits, and it would still be economically feasable for Americans to buy American. I refuse to support GM, or any other company that could have economized, but instead took my tax dollars to fix their problems, and I will not continue to fund a broken system that wastes money. I am not paying more for my vehicle to support an American company with wasteful spending practices, just because they are an American company. I think they need to be held accountable for their business models and forced to trim the fat. It is the only way anything will change, and I see it as my patriotic duty to stand up and say "stop wasting our money!"
