~ SURVIVOR Samoa ~ Season 19 ~

Silly and absurd. Sorry but Russ is going to tell the world exactly how he feels and I love it. I would do the same thing if I had been robbed of something that was rightfully mine.

Silly and adsurd is getting yourself so worked up over a tv show that you call someone elses opinion "silly and adsurd". Are you related in some way to him??? You sure do have some over the top strong opinion on ever person in this season? Are you Russell ??? Just saying you sure are taking it pretty personal.

He would never say just "no" or "yes", he likes the attention, we all know that. I think it was cruel for him that CBS interviewed them together, it wasn't fair for Natalie either. It was her moment, she was receiving her price and all that tv stuff, and for Russ it was cruel because they all knew how painful it would be for him not to be the winner, the star, the sole survivor, and they knew he wouldn't just sit there and say nothing. :3dglasses

Russ would probably say that we are stupid dumb people talking about a stupid game and taking it so personal. :lmao:

Ugh. Such grace in defeat.:sad2:

I am actually surprised nobody called Russell out over the Katrina lies during the finale show.

I'd forgotten about that. Great point. A big deal was made of Johnny Fairplay's dead grandmother. Why was this massive lie ignored?

I think true character is shown when they are interviewed during the season without the other players around. That's the time where they can talk strategy and let the viewers know what is going on in their heads.

Russell used this time to put down every person there. He called them nasty names and was very mean. He didn't have to act that way because he wasn't around anyone else. That was the time to show his true feelings. He did and many people are disgusted with the way he put down everyone and called them names.

Oh, I don't think his heart was broken when he lost, I think it was his pride and arrogance.

I'm still not sure it wasn't about playing to the camera. A lot of these reality guys look past the current season to extend their 15 minutes of fame as much as possible.

Role model? Why in the world would you be looking to a reality show for a role model?

This is entertainment, nothing more, nothing less. Guys like Colby and Ethan were fun to watch because they were good all around players. Natalie was a nice person and played an ok game but she was more eye candy than an exciting player to watch.

What is this workd coming to when we start making actors and athletes role models, instead of the people who really deserve it? Military, policeman, firemen, educators, medical professionals, people who put their lives on the line every day or who persevere through education and intelligence, not because they can hit a ball far or look good on TV. This is such a pet peeve of mine, more so with the media avalanche following the death of michael Jackson and the recent Tiger Woods fiasco.

Sorry, I'll get down from my soapbox now.

Q. Was this a great season or a lame season? For me, this is another easy question. Survivor: Samoa will rank as one of my favorite seasons and for one reason: Russell Hantz. He single handedly kept this show interesting week after week after week. But I know some will argue that because it was “The Russell Season” it lacked having more big characters and therefore does not rank as high. This is one that will be debated by Survivor fans for years to come.

******************************************

This is where I sit. Russell alone made this a great season. One of the best events EVER in Survivor was went Russell pulled out the second immunity idol. Remember Dave's expression.

Look at this thread as evidence. Go back to the posts around the first couple of episodes. They were close to 100% anti-Russell. As the game developed, many of us (myself included) did a 180 and started to appreciate him for the game he was playing, even though we still didn't like him.

Natalie didn't outsmart anyone. She was given a $1,000,000 prize because she's a southern sweetie with a fantastic body. Killing a rat and talking to people doesn't qualify you to win $1,000,000.

That's just an absurd analysis. Half of the jury were women. I firmly believe it's as Jeff said, they voted against Russell more than they voted for Natalie.

Yes but then they're going to ask him if she was a better player than him. The answer is NO!! So what do you want him to say??

How do you describe better?

Do you have to lie, back-stab and sabotage the other players to be the best player?

Russell said that he would be real but in the end, he was just as fake as the type of people that he claimed to hate when he outright lied answering Kelly's question.

To be the "BEST" player, yes you do need to lie, back-stab, and sabotage. And Russell was upfront that this would be his strategy from the beginning. So if this strategy isn't valid, should Survivor only invite sweet, polite, and honest people into the sow?

That is just one of the many strategies but not necessarily the best one. Some play a strategy that is based in lies (Russell), some play one that is based in physical ability (J.T,), some play one that is based in allowing your competitors to underestimate you (Bob). If you're saying that the winner should always be someone that lied, back-stabbed and sabotaged their competitors, the wrong person has won most of the past seasons.

The best one is the one that gets the most votes from the jury!

Edited to add...
Russell was not upfront about the way he would play. In the interview that I posted earlier today, he said that he would be real and tell it like it is. He played a game very far from that.

Why didn't he say that he is that type of person in real life and that he's not ashamed to have his children know that instead of lying to answer the question? Because he knew that there would be no way that any jury would give votes to someone like that. He thought that he was playing the jury but in reality, they played him. All that he's shown his children is that he's a mean-spirited person and a very sore looser!

I agree. One winner I liked was the fireman, Tom W. He played a very honorable game.

I 100% agree with this, my dh and I had a long talk about just this thing not to long ago, doesn't make any sense.

I disagree and I can definitely name quite a few seasons where the wrong player won. Tina over Colby and Natalie over Russ definitely top the list though.

So what about J.T. and Bob? Were they the right winners even though they didn't play a strategy that included making your competitors as miserable as possible?

Why didn't Russell play the game like he said he was going to in the interview and tell it like it is?

Yet, it is only your subjective opinion on 'right' vs 'wrong' winner. I will point out, for example, that young Colby was delighted that Tina won, and they remain great friends to this very day. Colby never said one word to try to poison Tina's win.

Yes but the problem is I'm in the majority. The majority of people felt as though Colby should have won and the majority now feel as though Russ should have won.

Let us do the math:

One Subjective opinion times 100,000 subjective opinions equals 100,000 subjective opinions.

Insert any number you wish in place of 100,000, the end result is the same: subjective opinions.

Natalie: The sole winner of Survivor Somoa.

The math is the 46% of America's vote that went to Russell as best player. That should be easy enough for you to figure out.

Russell Hantz: Sole Survivor and Winner of Survivor Samoa

Or, 54 percent did NOT think that Russell was the best player, but someone else.

Natalie: Sole Survivor and Winnder of Survivor Samoa
