(Torn between the Dis Resorts forum or the DVC forum. Sorry if in the wrong place! :confused3)

DIS members I need some advice. We are sailing DCL next January 4 nights to the Bahamas. I originally planned to stay at POP for one day/night before our cruise and just resort hop all day and sleep and cruise the next day. Super affordable and easy.

While searching my new hobby & obsession (the DisBoards), I found a separate website that rents DVC points at $14.00 PP. They claim to match you themselves with a seller (plus Paypal 3%). I have always dreamed of staying at BLT or AKL. Their price chart lists studio rooms at BLT at 19 points (MK view). If my calculations are correct doesn't that make it $266.00 for the night? Does this make it affordable for me? I would be surprising my GF somehow with our room for the night. It doesn't seem like a realistic price to me, am I missing a catch?

:thanks: in advance for any assistance

Yep, those prices are real! We rent points all the time, but only you can determine if it makes it more affordable for YOU! Will you be going to any parks? For instance, if you are planning on going to MK, I would choose BLT or GFV. If you're going to do Epcot, I would do BCV or BWV.

I guess the question of more affordable should be reworded to "Can I afford the surprise that I am dying to plan?" and Yes absolutely I can. As long as I can hide the fact that I'm scheming I can accomplish it. We aren't going to the parks at all, it was just a cheap guarantee to not miss our ship. it has snowballed and turned into a bonus day at WDW (minus the parks)! Thanks

In that case I would definitely upgrade to a deluxe with a nice pool, since you won't be spending your day in any park! I wouldn't recommend BLT, as the pool just isn't that great. I would suggest BCV because you'll have access to stormalong bay as well as the Boardwalk area! Have fun!

I'd actually stick with the MK view at BLT so you can watchtower the fireworks off your balcony.

I'd worry about swimming on the cruise!

If you do one of the monorail resorts, then you can watch the fireworks, possibly from your room, without entering the parks. (And without having to fight the crowd, after the fireworks.)

Yeah I just put a request for a quote on BLT with a lake view. Going to try and fill a room request. I love how investigative the DisBoard members got with a thread that shows specific room #'s and pictures of the views in each direction. This really is planning 101 here.
:disrocks:

I found a serious flaw in my plans today. None of the services will rent points to me under 30 points, this far in advance. (David, scott, etc). I only need the one night, 17ish points. Any advice?

Use the DVC rental board. You should be able to easily find someone to help you at the $13-14 pp price range.

Thank you both, I panicked a little and now I have several e-mails I sent out. BLT seems to be too popular but I'm finding my second choice BWV to have some options. Thanks guys :yay:

I'd be cautious about renting directly. I've heard of some people being ripped off. Probably 98% are legit, but a small percentage aren't. It takes a certain amount of trust. You have to send them the money, then they reserve on your behalf, but they own the reservation. Just be careful.
