Any celebrities been a real surpirse to you? I mean have you noticed something about them that is totally opposite of what your perception of them was?

Mine is Gene Simmons. DH was flipping through the channels one night and stopped on his show "family jewels". He is nothing like I thought he would be. DH and I used to be into all those 80's rock bands (Kiss, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, etc.) and many of them live the rock & roll life in real life as well. Now I do know it's a show and they know they are being filmed but from what I could tell he's a pretty good businessman, seems to try to instill some work ethic in his kids, and every other word wasn't bleeped. I just would have never pictured him the way he appears in the show.

So who is yours?

i was also shocked by Gene Simmons. he makes himself out to be a rock god, but he's really just a cranky old man, lol, sometimes, he acts older than he actually is. DH and i crack up every time we see him in his footie pajamas. i LOVE his interaction with shannon and the kids, who both seem really grounded. i'm also surprised that shannon is such a homebody and doesn't really like to socialize.

Family Jewels really bugs me. For a reality show it seems so rehearsed and planned out. I do think Nick is super funny though and a down to earth guy.

As for a celebrity who has surprised me, I would have to say Jennifer Hudson. I did not like her very much when she was on American Idol,I think she was super bitter when she was voted off, but I think that she has come so far and has handled her family trauma with such class. She is a strong, wonderful woman and I wish her happiness with her new baby and husband to be.

We met Gene Simmons years ago on a plane. When he got off with his family he was escorted in one of those airline carts. But first DH went up to him and got his autograph in one of his neurology textbooks. Gene is really a nice guy, and very pleasant.

Okay, this guy isn't a "true" celebrity. Reality "star". Jon Gosslin. He's nothing like I thought. Haven't seen the show a lot, but he seemed like a nice guy. I changed my mind.

I enjoy Family Jewels. It is a show I don;t have to worry about my kids walking in on.....

I guess my 'surprise' celebrity was Ozzie Osborne of Black Sabbath. I knew little about him and what I knew was not very favorable. However, he turned out in that television show to be a very down-to-earth person.

Ringo Starr was another. Years ago a reporter interviewing Ringo was surprised when Ringo stated that his favorite food was 'fish and chips'. The reporter started a spiel about how rich and famous he was and how he could go anywhere to eat: five-star restaurants, coast of France, etc.

Ringo replied "Well, yeah, I guess. But I like fish and chips. I've eaten them since I was a lad."

I liked that Ringo simply saw no reason to change his eating habits simply because he had become rich.

I've always thought Kelly Clarkson looked like a nice gal and normal (doesn't live in LA, lives with her family, seems normal, has the same friends as she did in junior high, etc). I went to her show about a week ago and was so impressed with her performance, I googled some interviews with her to learn more about her as an artist. In one, she mentioned how growing up, there were financial troubles in her family. So as soon as she won Idol and her first 2 albums were a success, she met with a financial advisor and put away enough money so that if her success ended tomorrow, she was set for life and didn't have to worry about money. That was in 2005. I was very impressed with that - I was a fan already but am more so now. I like the fact that even though she is clearly not hurting for money now, at her age she has the presence of mind to plan for the future like that. A good role model, in my book. :thumbsup2

I had heard that about Kelly. A lot of people in her situation would have gone crazy with that amount of money but she was very smart. I think season 3 winner of AI, Fantasia, mishandled her money because she had never had it and that is why she was having some financial troubles. Very smart of Kelly! :thumbsup2

Yeah, I am friends with the lead singer of one of those 80s rock/hair bands. He and his wife "look" very rock and roll (long hair, all black clothes, skulls and crossbones, etc.), but are super conservative. They live in suburbia in a normal house, their child goes to Catholic school (even tho they are not Catholic), they are actually the least partying people I know, lol. Never, ever would have guessed this based on looking at him and his profession.

I was surprised by Hogans wife on Hogan knows best. I didn't know she baked cookies, oh wait she doesnt because all those celebrity reality shows are fake.
