Surprised at availability for August

Took a shot and called MS today for a 1-bedroom for August 9 - 14.
I was somewhat surprised to be able to book a one-bedroom at BLT, MK view today for August 10 and 11. Standard view was also available for a couple of days that week. Nothing was available at AKV for a one-bedroom. While I'm not too fond of room-hopping (or the number of ponts required for MK view), it was a way of convincing my DW to go to central Florida in August. I think she will just stay in the room and stare at the castle.............................

Scattered availability at VWL and OKW also, SSR available all week .

I'm sure the economy and weather during August has something to do with it.

I know that I've read that BLT will be releasing more villas into inventory as they become available (not sure how many/how often). Maybe that's why you were able to snag some dates there? Just a thought.

I'm still hoping there's some cancellations coming. We've been on the waitlist for a savannah view 1B at AKV for a couple of months for 8/11 - 8/15. Have the view for 8/9 - 8/10 and a standard view for 8/11-8/15. I hope as we hit the 30 day mark there may still be some cancellations.

I have to stay I'm shocked as well. I also called just a couple days ago for a late August vacation. We were looking for a studio for 8 nights. SSR and OKW were available all 8 nights. AKV (savanna) and BLT (lake view) were available every night except one. BWV and VWL were available every night except two or three.

So I booked the first 3 nights at OKW and booked the last 5 at VWL. I also waitlisted the first 3 at VWL. I called the next day and found out my waitlist had come through. I was shocked to get a studio for 8 nights at VWL so last minute since it's the smallest resort. I'm hoping this is an indication of what the crowds will be like!

I agree that availability in August is very good right now. Four days ago (on Sunday), we decided to make a quick trip to WDW while we are moving. We called MS looking for a SV 1-BR at AKV (our home resort). No SV availability at AKV, but we were offered SSR or OKW. We booked SSR (and were excited...we have never stayed there) but waitlisted AKV and BWV (boardwalk view). After reading this thread last night, I checked the DVC website and saw that our BWV waitlist had come through!:cool2: Needless to say, DW is very excited. We will still stay on the AKV waitlist just in case it comes through, but everyone here is really looking forward to our first stay at an Epcot resort!

BTW...am I the only one a little disturbed by the clown face at the Luna Pool? :scared1:

We still have a few more nights to fill. Since we have 5, we were concentrating on AKV or BLT. Standard view at BLT was available for 8/11 and 8/12. Probably will try to get that and waitlist AKV.

Congratulations. I am hoping some nights open up a few nights before that. I am trying to either Aug 5th or 6th, or the 7th and 8th.

I am WL for the studio, LV, but will be calling each day to see if something else opens up. When I called Monday, there were no studios or 1 beds for those nights, but it is right after opening so I think that could be playing a role.

Good luck and I hope the rest of your nights come through!

DisFor20 - BTW...am I the only one a little disturbed by the clown face at the Luna Pool?

There are many threads on this... Do a search for BWV and you will find many instances of this being noted. The clown pool is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to creepy oddities at BWV. Check out the flower people chairs in the lobby, the long, long, long hallways, etc. Although it has many oddities, I love BWV and think it is a great resort with an incredible location!!! But, I often wonder if Stephen King helped design this resort.

I called this week and was able to book Aug 24th -Aug 27th at Vero Beach and Aug 27th -Sept 1st at the WLV in a studio. I was shocked and happy.:dance3:

I called this past week and we are staying in a 2 bedroom at BLT from 8-9 through 8-11. We just needed one more long weekend before summer ends. I can't wait to see it! I hope we don't have parking issues after reading earlier threads!

More kids are going back to school before Labor Day. A lot of kids go back to school starting in the middle of August. In the suburbs of Chicago, my kids go back to school on August 19th. For most families, that might be cutting it a little close to do that summer vacation! That might be part of the reason for the availability.

Good to know; we've been thinking of trying for few days at end of August too :goodvibes

August is actually a slower month for Disney. With the exception of the Northeast - the rest of the country is back in school in early August. So if you must visit in the summer - the last two weeks in August are actually great with low crowd levels. I've been told by several DVCers that if I must go in the summer shoot for August. To beat the heat go to the parks early - hit the pools mid day - and back to the park for dinner and fireworks. Have fun!

Going to call tomorrow to try to get an OKW studio for 8/17-21. Fingers crossed!

We've had a studio at BCV booked for months now, but last night DS (10) was looking at pictures of Kidani (pool area) and said, we had to stay there. I was just on the phone with MS and was able to get a studio std. view for the last three nights of our stay (Sept. 2-5). She didn't have svn. view for one of the nights at Kidani, but there was availability at Jambo. Since we want Kidani, we took the std. view.

Yes, me the self-proclaimed hater of split-stays is doing one now! But since late Aug/early Sept. is so blazing hot and we don't plan on much if any park time, it'll be an easy move--so I tell myself!;)

Shhhhh--do not give away our secret!;) Unless for some reason we go in July, we always shoot for late August. This year is really late since school doesn't start until Sept. 9th. We are visiting Aug. 29 to Sept. 5 and hitting both my and DS's b'days.
