SURPRISE - We're going to Disney!

After much planning and packing, we're taking our kids on a surprise trip to WDW tomorrow! I've researched the various threads on here about surprising your kids and we're going to give it a try. My kids have been a bunch of times so we really don't have to prepare them for it since they know what to expect.

We're picking them up from school and telling them we have a doctor's appointment. Then we will proceed to the airport and wait to see how long it takes for them to figure out that we are not going to the doctor's office. Mickey ears in hand, all will be revealed. Can't wait to see the look on their faces!! Off to the House of Mouse we go!

Have a great time! I surprised DH and DS5 last July and it was the best ever! In Sept 08 we surprised the boys with Grandma on our trip and that was fun too! Enjoy your trip and the surprised look on their faces!!

We're doing the same to DD next week. Waking her up on Thursday morning. "Hey, Dad decided to stay home from work so we could do something fun....should we go to the Aquarium? NAH! How about the Zoo? NAH! How about Disney World!"

Just hope my kid doesn't expect this to happen all the time!

I did this last year, but we told them the day before (DH couldn't go, so we wanted to give them a chance to say goodbye). Their reaction was hilarious:

I would love to suprise my kids but I can't keep my big mouth shut, it has taken everything in me to zip it about Star Wars Weekends, espically when my 4 yr old was going on and on last week about meeting Darth Vader and wishing he could see the 'red vader' (Darth Maul).

That is awesome!! We did the surprise thing for our first trip and this one they know about. The surprise was funner!

We are surprising our 2 DD's on the 27th of this month. It has been a struggle not to spill the beans!! We are waking them up at 4am and having a box for them to open with mickey balloons flying out..just like the commercial!! I hope it all works We are going to video tape it!!! Have fun!!!

We're surprising our kids on sunday.
We're having their birthday party with family sat. night.
Then someone is taking them out for an hour while we pack and load
the car.
Then waking them at 4:30am and ask them if they want to go to DisneyWorld?
Flight leaves 2 hours later.

(That's the advantage of living near a small airport, we don't have to get there 3 hrs ahead of time to make it through security )

We've gone late April early May every year. I have a DS 16 (knows about the trip), DS 9 & DS 5. We've been going the same time every year for 5 years now. My kids always know we go after easter (the only way to describe to my 5 yo when he asked how much longer).

We leave on a Monday. I already have just about everything packed (for about 5 months now). So Sunday night after the kids go to bed me and DH will load everything up into the truck.
Monday we'll be getting them up at 4:00 to head to the airport. They think were going to Jersey to visit pop-pop so they are prepared to get on a plane. DH is going to take the kids to another gate till bording time so my 9yo doesn't have time to read the departure destination.
Can't wait till we land and they see the magical express bus and figure it all out.

Right now we speak in codes. Everything is refered to as when we get to pop-pops......
Everything packed is locked in the basement. The funniest thing is hearing them say that when we go next year what they are going to do first because they miss it so much!!!
Now we really don't plan on going next year so I'm afraid they are going to think next year will be another suprise.

We leave tomorrow. DD doesn't have a clue. Turns out it's pretty easy to hide things from a 6-year old. DW has been throwing subtle hints for days, she made tuna noodle sald with Mickey shape pasta, last night gave DD drink in Minnie cup with Mickey straw, got her a Disney princess balloon on Saturday. Thanks to the DIS for inspiring us to do this, I never would have done it otherwise. It's probably good though...in December she was so hyped up before the trip they were having trouble with her in school.

As I mentioned in PP, I worry that she will now think we could go to Disney at the drop of a hat. Oh well, the price you pay...we are going back in less than 6 months anyways.

It does kind of make the build-up less fun and also less real. Hard to believe in 24 hours we will be in DHS.
