We have adjoining rooms with our older teenage daughters. Thinking of surprising them in their cabin with decorations and/or a gift like the scrapbook, etc. Anyone done any of this? Is it worth it, or just spend my money on souveniers elsewhere?

I would contact Shirley at The Perfect Gift www.theperfectgift.cc she makes up custom baskets, gift bags, whatever you want. She is a wonderful lady and has a great big heart. I have ordered from her several times and have never been disappointed.

By the way, I like your screen name. :goodvibes

love2travel......what types of gifts have you ordered from www.theperfectgift.cc ?? Do they deliver them directly to your stateroom on the day your cruise departs? Or, since you can't actually get into your stateroom until around 1:30, how do they get the gift to you? I was thinking of ordering a gift for my 25-year-old daughter....and having it be a surprise. Thanks for any input you can give. :)

I took decorations and put them up myself on my daughter's birthday. You can purchase decorations thru DCL, but they will be up when you board (can't do them on a special day).

You can order gift baskets thru DCL or thru Shirley....or you can take things yourself and place them in the room. THe advantage of doing it yourself is that they can be scattered throughout the cruise. Anything ordered will be in the room when you have access to it.

I have ordered several baskets in the past. I usually get one made up for my DD and I have water, candy, snacks, etc. put in it. Shirley, will put anything you want in it. Yes, they deliver them directly to your stateroom. They deliver them to the ship and then they are delivered to your stateroom. It is always a nice surprise for my DD when she opens the stateroom door and sees the basket.

I will try the basket lady rather than Disney. Is she super expensive or has different prices and do you have to come up with what you want or she'll have ideas?

Shirley is awesome. She'll have ideas and after a little back-and-forth conversation, she'll be able to put together a great basket.

Her prices are very, very reasonable, IMO. I ordered a pretty expensive basket on my last cruise, but that's because I asked her to put pretty expensive stuff in it.

Give her a shot. :)

I have heard a lot of good things about Shirley although I have never used her service before. I say give her a try though! :thumbsup2

We just got off the 3/22/08 Magic and I did BOTH DCL packages (the Bon Voyage decorations with cake & the sparkling cider with petit fours & I ordered myself the Bon Voyage storage box) AND a Shirley "Perfect Gift" basket. I would DEFINITELY order a basket again. The DCL decor was nice--we left it up all week and it's fun to have here at home. But we took all week to eat the cake and didn't drink the cider until the night before we left. My kids would have been just as happy with only the Perfect Gift basket. Just call the Perfect Gift and they will brainstorm with you about what you want. I think I paid about $60 for a really nice large sandpail filled with sand toys, water, snacks, etc. (My kids are 5 & 10). Plus the pail was personalized with their names--a really nice touch. I paid twice as much for the DCL stuff and it was not enjoyed nearly as much. Next time I'd spend it all at the Perfect Gift and really get my money's worth!!:thumbsup2

My parents gave all their children and grandchildren a group cruise last year. As a thank you, DH and I ordered a basket from Shirley to be delivered to the parents room. They loved it, and Shirley was a dear on the phone. We had cheese, chocolate, strawberries, and sparkling cider. I forget what else was in there but I felt it was a good price.

I don't think you will be disappointed with a basket from Shirley. She will work with you as far as the price and what you want. All she wants to do is make people happy. She is a wonderful lady and goes above and beyond for people here on the DIS boards. God Bless Shirley!

Thanks for all of the great responses. I will call her tomorrow!

You are so welcome, let us know if you order something and if you were pleased with it. What am I saying, if you order from Shirley you are sure to be pleased with it. Have a safe and enjoyable cruise!

Just off the Wonder 3/27 - 30...

I ordered 2 baskets from Shirley, one for DD who is 4 and one for my brother i law who is 50 -something.

DD's basket was just beautiful....Her face TOTALLY LIT UP when we walked into our room. We did a sand pail (based on a suggestion I had seen here on the boards) with sand toys (great for Castaway Cay) with princess snacks, goldfish, juice boxes, M&Ms etc. There were some adorable princess necklaces, and a tiara as well. Her bucket was personalized with her name and it was simply adorable. :)

My BIL got Ghiradelli chocolate and some beverages in his. His was all wrapped really nicely in a beach/tote thing. He loved it.

Yay Shirley and what a great business/service.

I'd like to be in the making people happy service like this....:wizard:

Just wonder if anyone has any recommendations for gift baskets containing beer/lager and also wine that perhaps would be better value than the Disney offered packs please?

How far in advance should baskets be ordered from Shirley?? I would like to do a basket from her for my family as a surprise on our cruise!

Shirley is awesome. When my daughter and I arrived to our cabin we had a basket waiting for us that my husband had ordered (we left him and my son home). It had all our favorite snacks in it, so we know some thought went into it both from my husband and Shirley.

And yes, we ate them all!:rotfl2:
