Surprise for the bride

Another update by way of planning.

I have decided to let my Matron and Brides Maid pick their own dresses.

They have totally different body types and with all the cost they will be enduring for travel alone, I thought it would be nice for them to pick their own dresses that way they can look for bargains, resales and such. They will get with the groomsmen to match if need be.

And whats more:

I asked them to surprise me! I dont even want to see them until the big day!

They are both very fashion saavy and I trust that they will make wonderful choices!

They are picking the colors too, the only request was that if they go with different colors that they do not clash. ( they will be discussing w/ my mother the color choices so the themed colors all match too)

They really don't have any say in the rest of the planning as we are trying to stay under budget so I thought this would be something fun for them to do that would have a big impact on the wedding

Some may think I am CRAZY, and they are probably right but I can't decide on a color to save my life anyway and I have always disliked trying on dresses that were in no way meant for someone my shape, and I'm not the "traditional" type anyhoo!

What do you guys think?

I did something similar...my bridesmaids are so different...in age, style, and bodytype. I gave them the designer and color (because my gown has color and I wanted to make sure it matched) and let them pick their own dress. I want my girls to feel beautiful and comfortable in what they are wearing!

That's very brave of you to not see them beforehand. I am also doing the same thing. My girls have different dresses both from Ann Taylor (just regular dresses not the BM ones). I don't think I could stand the suspense of not seeing them, but it will be a very nice surprise for you!

I really like the idea of them adding their own personal style to my wedding. Makes it all the more special and maybe they will get future use out of the dresses if they pick them, which is more then I can say for the frocks collecting dust in my closet!

Our colors are navy and white and i'm letting my girls pick any dress they want since I have a Jr. Bridesmaid, and some girls that might not feel comfortable wearing a strapless or halter dress I think letting them choose is a great idea. I wish we didn't have colors set in stone, it could be fun to let the girls pick any dress they want, but with 6 girls that could be a pain coordinate. I probably wouldn't be able to stand not seeing the dresses before the wedding though, but I question some of my girls fashion sometimes

I totally agree, that's why I want my girls to choose. I know they'll have use for them in the future if they pick out a formalish dress they like.
