Last October we told our daughter that we were taking a fall vacation to florida and would be going to disney while we were there (we have a timeshare in kissimmee). She always gets excited about going to disney world. What she didn't know is that we were also going on the cruise (4 day). We arrived on Saturday and spent the night at the resort. Since she had to miss some days out of school we told her that we were going to take her to Kennedy Space Center and that would count as her educational experience. On our way to the space center we saw the ships as we were coming over the hill so I told my husband "why don't we go over and see if we can get a closer look at the Disney ship." My daughter was all for it. To make a long story short we had her fooled right up until we pulled up to the curve to unload the luggage. She started to look puzzled at that time so I just blurted it out that we are about to go on a disney cruise while snapping her picture at the same time. She was so happy her eyes fill with water. That did me and dd all the good. I wouldn't exchange the memories of that day for anything.
I can tell you how my husband and I suprised my mom and dad with their cruise this past Christmas...I searched eBay and was able to bid on and win a Captain Mickey Christmas ornament. I wrapped it in a copy of the cruise confirmation and itinerary (minus the price-I whited it out) and put it in a larger box with a false bottom and the current Disney Cruise travel book from the trave agent along with the video under the false bottom. My mom and dad opened the ornament and said "oh, how cute" (They are Disney nuts, anyway). My mom started to read aloud the cruise confirmation with her and my dad's names on them, and then said "We're going on a Disney Cruise" She repeated it about five times, not quite able to believe it. My sister confirmed the gift was real by giving them HER gift, which was plane tickets to and from Orlando. It took almost all of Christmas Day for it to sink in that they were actually going. We took this cruise in Feb. and it was one of the most wonderful, magical things we could have done as my dad is in his 80's and not great health and these are the kinds of things you should NEVER put off if you can possible manage it. My children were in on the surprise for Grandma and Pop, but I had surprises for them waiting in the stateroom when we got there. I ordered logo water bottles for them, a hat for my dad, and then hit ebay again for a plush sailor Chip and Dale (my mom's favorite Disney characters) that I snuck into their stateroom before they got there. I know I will never forget that cruise. Aren't surprises (happy ones) wonderful?
