Hi everyone,

My DGf (longwaybycarriage) and I are travelling to California for the first time as part of an impromptu business trip beginning November 9th through 27th.

The dates we won't be working and will be free are as follows:

November 6th (arrive) - 8th, 13th - 15th, 19th - 27th (depart). We will however also be free most evenings after work to explore. We're likely to be renting a condo out of Laguna Beach or Dana Point or possibly Aliso Viejo. We will also be renting a car for the entire trip.

We've got a vague idea of what we want to see from our research so far on the main tourist attractions within the LA/San Diego kind of areas, but we really want to work out the best time(s) to hit DLR and work all the other stuff around that.

We understand that avoiding weekends at DLR is best, but should we aim for mid-week days back-to-back or maybe spread them out a little ??

We know we have quite a lot of time available to us and really want to make sure we use it as wisely as possible. On that note, is there anything perhaps less well known that you guys would suggest is worth doing out there? Especially stuff to do/see in the evenings or when visiting certain areas.

We went to WDW last year and did a LOT of research/planning before hand so we're feeling completely under-prepared for this trip! We've listened to the advice given in the Disneyland podcasts from earlier in the year and will check out HydroGuy's tips but would greatly appreciate any additional advice/tips/suggestions from the experts !:worship:

Just one last thing, we know we're gonna be there for Thanskgiving so any suggestions on what to do/where to go would be great also.

I'd go for mid week days back to back, away from Thanksgiving if possible. Two or three days should cover it for you. If possible, it would be better to stay in DLR during that time, so you can benefit from the quieter mornings.Check the disneyland calendar for any days you think you 'd like to attend, for opening hours, ride closures, special events.

Sure others will chime in!

For your dates:

November
6th (arrive) - 8th,
13th - 15th
19th - 27th (depart)

IMO 2 of the better days to visit DLR would be Thursday, Nov. 19, and Friday, Nov. 20. For your dates, those 2 days should have the lowest crowds and good entertainment options. :goodvibes

FWIW, a couple of things to keep in mind:

The DLR calendar doesn't show any fireworks from Nov. 2 to Nov. 12.

The 'Christmas Fantasy' Parade and the 'Believe...In Holiday Magic' Fireworks start running every day on Friday, Nov. 13.

It's A Small World Holiday should open on Friday, Nov. 13.

Storybook Land Canal Boats and the Casey Jr. Circus Train are expected to be down for refurb until Thursday, Nov. 19, and they should both be open on Friday, Nov. 20.

The Aladdin Musical (in DCA) is running from Thursday to Sunday (it's dark Monday to Wednesday).

Hopefully others can help you with some of your California questions.
