We are going on the 11/8 Magic for the 1st time. It is our 1st vacation since our kids, ages 7 and 5, were born. I was planning a romantic suriel bath as a surprise for my hubby. After reading a post on some people who were disappointed with the spa in general, I'm not sure anymore.

Any recent cruisers out there that can give testimony to the suriel bath?

Thanks for the advice:):sunny:

Hi jchach.

It is our 1st vacation since our kids, ages 7 and 5, were born. I was planning a romantic suriel bath as a surprise for my hubby.

I, myself, haven't experienced the suriel bath as I'm a single parent and only cruise with my son and DM. As many here will attest to, there are some who feel I should "go suriel bath" myself. Anyway, that is another thread.

Fun and romance are what you choose to make of any experience. Treat yourself and DH to the suriel bath. If the spa's equipment doesn't work properly, be glad DH's does...

You'll have a terrific cruise either way!

We did the surial bath on our Wonder cruise. We really liked it. We had an 8 am appointment, and it was a wonderful and relaxing way to start our day. You get to sample lots of products and you can just relax and be together.
We found that everything seemed to be in working order in the room. DH and I plan to do this again on our next cruise.:earsboy: :earsgirl:

I really wanted to do the Surial Bath too but after hearing/reading many bad reviews, we've decided against it. I think I can find another way to use that money to put some romance into our vacation. :smooth:

I say, before making a ressie, ask the Spa staff if you could make sure it is in working order since you have received feedback that there have been problems with the equipment. Then decide from there. Never know, might have fixed the problem and then you would miss out.

Here is a review of our trip to the Suriel Chamber from our August 16th trip report. Travis and I had a great time during this treatment and will make sure we do it again in the future.

This was really our first experience with the spa and we were quite excited. It’s really hard to believe that you’re still on a ship in the middle of the ocean as you wander through the beautifully tiled halls of the spa. Even if you don’t consider yourself a spa buff, I would recommend attending the walking tour of the facility that they offer on embarkation day just so you can see the place. It is quite amazing! After filling out the brief allergy form we were introduced to our spa attendant. She was very pleasant, although I can’t for the life of me recall her name, and showed us to the men’s changing room. (Even the changing rooms are exceptionally decorated!) We changed out of our clothes, locked them up, and slipped into the provided robes. We met our attendant in the hall and she showed us to the chamber.

Once inside the Surial Chamber the attendant illustrated how to apply the various muds on the various parts of the body, how to operate all of the shower heads, and talked a little bit about the Elimis products that they had placed on a small table inside the chamber for use. She said that she would knock on the door when ten minutes were left in the session and then took leave of us.

Well, all I can say is that the steam room gets HOT! I had never really experienced a steam room so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I had to constantly use the “cool down” shower heads to splash the cool water over myself! At several points we opened the glass door separating the steam area of the chamber from the shower area so that the entire chamber would cool down a bit. Applying the muds was a lot of fun. They seemed to be lightly scented with various herbs and such and also helped to keep the body somewhat cool in light of the tremendous heat emanating from the steam column.

During the treatment Travis and I also tried most of the Elimis products on the table. (I was a little bit worried about these items because I do not use any products that are tested on animals or use animal products. However, I should have known that Disney would select a product line that does neither.) I can’t really recall anything specific about any of the items but there was a mist used as an aroma therapy type of product. I believe it was a mint scent and it smelled wonderful. I also tried their body lotions, shampoo, and foot scrub!

After letting the mud sit for about twenty minutes we washed off and just relaxed in the steam area of the chamber. I don’t know how much time had passed buyt we eventually got up and showered in the adjoining shower area. We then sat on the heated tile bench and relaxed as the steam continued to swirl around us. It seemed as if we had been in the room for much longer than an hour and we finally decided to leave. As it turns out, our attendant evidently forgot about us because we had been in the chamber for an hour and forty minutes! (I don’t even know if this is healthy!)

BD,

As many here will attest to, there are some who feel I should "go suriel bath" myself.

"Not I, said the duck."

As indicated on another thread. We need to keep this discussion up in an effort to get this fixed. We also need ALL new cruisers to report the status of of the surial bath.

My wife and I did the surial bath back in March on the Wonder. All the equipment was in working order. :teeth:

And I had a lot of fun too. Given the opportunity, I would do it again.

The steam wouldn't come out at all for us, until the final couple minutes of the hour...then suddenly steam starts pouring out. It didn't look right to me when the attendant was showing the features of the room and I asked about the steam since I didn't see any, and she said it was working! The shower for washing in the other room never got hot. We were covered in mud, no steam to loosen the mud and no hot water to rinse it off. When we told the attendant at the end, she didn't really seem to care....said she'd check into it.

Other people love the spa. I did not find it especially clean, and it was not in working order. I'll pass on this one in the future.

Thanks for all your replies so far. Keep them coming:) Is this something I have to book on the 1st day? Can I check it out 1st and ask people on board? Or does it "sell" out?

Thanks ::MinnieMo

If you really have your heart set on trying the chamber you'll want to make sure you book it as soon as you board the ship.

Prior to our August cruise Travis and I attempted to book the Suriel for our May trip. We ended up getting to the port later (around 2:00 or so) due to graduation and when we tried to book the Suriel all slots were already taken.

We were on the 9/13 magic. Hubby and I did not find the Surial Bath romantic at all...next time we will be trying the couples massage on castaway cay...everyone we know who has tried this...has loved it.

We also loved going into the rainforest together...even though you are not alone like in the surial bath...the rainforest was much nicer.

Happy cruising!

Back from the western cruise. Tried the Suriel Bath with my husband & did not enjoy. Maybe my expectations for a romantic interude were too high. Anyway the water pressure was low & almost all of the shower heads in the chamber did not work. Looking back I should have booked the couples massage on Castaway Cay. I did an individual massage and it was GREAT!

My DH and I did the surial back in April and really enjoyed it.
We are rarely alone locked in a room together for an hour (we have two kids) and I think That was the best part.
The steam got really hot- so we didn't turn it back on after it's time ran out.
We really liked trying the products ( scrubs shampoos etc..) on each other.
All the shower heads worked. There was a sales pitch at the end I could have skipped- but I would gladly do this again.
It seems to me from reading other posts that the big varible is if the spa equipment is not working it can be a miserable experience.
Again the big treat was uninterrupted time with DH

Gosh folks... how could being locked in a room, nekkid, and lots of fun lotions and muds not be fun and romantic?

Sam

I agree with you there, especially if your with the one you love,
Anyways, my two cents is I am going to give it a go too, I talked mine into it... Yippee!! I can't beleive he is going for this but he is... and I am going to take advantage of it!
I had read someones trip report about doing this suriel bath and it was awesome...
I don't know about you, but this sounds good to me!!:love2:

Ok, for those of you that have done this, is the $68 per person or for both? Also, I could not locate the Castaway Cay massage price on the website. Anyplace to get this?

Gina::MinnieMo

The price is per couple or per trio. When you figure the per person price it's one of the cheapest spa "treatments" overall! Of course, that could be because there is next to no involvement on the part of the spa staff! :teeth:

I can't quite remember the cost of the massage on Castaway Cay. I know they had a sign up that was advertising them on the first day. I *do* know it was really expensive... Something along the lines of $150 or $225 or so???? Does this sound right to anyone?

I am under the assumption that it is for both...:happy1: and I thought I read it was $60.00; I'll have to double check myself now...
