Thinking of booking surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon as a special treat for the family, has anyone done this or any idea how to book it. Thank you.

Hiya,

Haven't done this (but would love to!)

I would guess it would be booked via the usual tour number which is 407 WDW TOUR. Can't answer this from personal experience though!

If you do this I would love to know what you think.

all i know is it is an hour before the park oppens so plan on getting up early
Paulh
also they are on certain days

If surfing is a desire for your family, a much cheaper option is to spend a day (or two as they have 2nd day free) at Water Mania on I-Drive. We visited here this week as we were hoping to go to TL but it was closed due to capacity, we then tried BB and that was also closed. As we'd never been to Water Mania before I wasn't sure what to expect. I've been to WetNWild and didn't think it matches either of the Disney waterparks. In general I would say that Water Mania would come in 4th of the 4 parks BUT their saving grace IMHO was that even at a REALLY busy time (TL+BB closed to capacity and WetNWild couldn't have been far off when we drove past the following couple of days) this park had relatively short queue times, it was fairly easy to get loungers/space and most of all has a "man made wave" ride where you get the chance to try and surf on "boogie boards" most of the day this was about a 15 minute wait for your 90 seconds try. Granted a LOT of people didn't make it anywhere near the 90 seconds but with a little practice and watching other peoples errors and successes it's possible to work out a plan for how to stay on for a good run.

If money is no object then I'm sure that TL is going to offer the better "quality" experience, however if you're looking for a cheap option to get some experience surfing/body boarding then at $29 per person for 2 full days entertainment this offers a reasonable priced option.

Depending on when you're coming I was talking to the staff at Ron John's surf shop and they have a surf wave machine/park coming later this year. Here's a link to the info, this looks like a lot of fun in the future http://www.ronjons.com/DisplayContent.aspx?ContentID=143&MenuGroup=7&SelectedItem=27

Vernon is that the Water Mania on the 192 or is there another? :p

Have you been surfing before or is this a "first time" for you?

The reason I ask is because I have read reports that say it's not easy for a first-timer to learn here - mainly because the water is not sea water - which does not help with the floating!

This would be our first time as 'surfers', I thought that the boys might enjoy it as they are both competative swimmers. I will have to look into Water Mania as well, that's not somewhere we have been before, maybe we could do both, go to Water Mania first and then do the surfing at Typhoon Lagoon at the end of the three weeks.
