Anyone have this? Need to replace my old laptop, and this seems like a good option, as I want something very portable.

Price is $449 for the 32gb, so I need to make sure it's worth it. Trying to wait for a coupon code or something.

Ease of use, is the touchscreen responsive and easy, is the keyboard good (I need it to be easy for everyday use. small keyboards usually bother me), good processor speed, etc. DD will need it for Word and PowerPoint, so if anyone uses that as well I'd love to hear your reviews.

Thanks!

I just got a Surface 2 for Christmas. I love it. I got the keyboard with the actual keys, not just the touch one, and it think it feels just like my laptop. The touchscreen works well too. I have not used a tablet before, but I have an iPhone.

I have not purchased the office suite yet. I'm planning to do that soon.

HockeyMomNH, I have the Surface 1 & it does come with Excel/Word/Power Point for FREE - you just have to "upgrade" it from the "trial" version (which is pre-loaded on your tiles) to the permanent version - no need to pay for the upgrade. Basically, you open the desktop tile, click on the corner of the screen (to bring up the different buttons) & click on the "cog" button (settings) at the bottom. When that screen comes up, type in the word updates in the blank box & hit enter. Here's the trick - it will have a button on the bottom that says to update - DON'T hit that - you want to click on the underlined words in the paragraph above that asks "show all updates" - that will open a box that shows the "upgrade" to the permanent version. Make sure that box is checked & then click on the update button on that page - that will add it. Hope this helps but feel free to drop me a PM if you have any more questions. :goodvibes
Got mine for Christmas too - didn't need version 2 since all I pretty much use it for is E-mail.

When you get the keyboard, make sure it's the "type" keyboard, which has the actual keys. The "touch" keyboard is a flat surface with letters - NO keys - BIG difference! Easy to attach - it's magnetic so it pretty much attaches itself, & it's ready to use as soon as it's attached - no program to download.
You also will need a printer which is Surface compatible, so check to make sure your printer will work with it. It comes with SkyDrive, so no need for a flash drive - I don't use either so someone else will have to chime in on that.
Posted how to update Word/Power Point below.
LOVE my Surface - only have had it since Christmas but it took no time to feel comfortable with it. :goodvibes

I will be a dissenter. I got one for christmas and played with it for a couple of days before deciding I was not happy with it (for that price). The apps were limited. No gmail integration was an issue because that is what I use for work. I hated the explorer browser and that is all you can use. The keyboard and touch screen were great. I would have liked having word and excel. However, for my use, it wasn't what I really wanted. Personally, if I were going to look for something to replace it I would look at a chromebook.

I got mine on Black Friday for $250. I like it, other than the touch keyboard. I do a lot of typing, emails and work, and the touch keyboard is frustrating...I am not motivated to force myself to become comfortable with it, and in fact asked husband earlier today to pick up a type keyboard from Best Buy...$129 vs $169 on Amazon. Even w/ that still a good deal.

I have had my Surface since October, and I have really liked it. In fact, my main work laptop went down shortly after I bought the Surface. That meant I had to rely on my Surface completely for 10 days or so...teaching, grading, and attending a conference out of state. I really grew to love the Surface in that time.

As someone else mentioned, I do not prefer the internet explorer browser, but that has not been a big deal. The Windows app store is smaller than google play or itunes, but it is growing all the time and I have been able to find everything I need.

I have the touch keyboard and I actually really like it. I need to have the sound on so I can hear the pop of the touch, but I have not had another issue with it as far as size and usage. I know many complain about the touch keyboard, but it has been a non issue for me.

Additionally, my 12 year became so fond of my tablet that we bought her one for Christmas thanks to the BestBuy deal. She has been delighted. Now if the weather would clear long enough for school to be in session so that she could acyually use it for school work, that would be great.
