Hi there! My 14 yr old son would like to take surf lessons while we are at Aulani in June. Any suggestions or recommendations on where/who to get lessons from. I saw that lessons are offered through Disney as an excursions, but wasn't sure if that is the best. We will have a rental car the entire time and will be doing many day trips/sightseeing, so the lessons can be anywhere.

Thanks in advance!!

Aloha Suzanne,

The nearest surf beach is Eisenhower Beach Park. Which is a public beach park 20 minutes from your Hotel. The surf spot can get fairly windy, so it's always suggested to select a lesson in the morning.

3 Surf Schools that utilize the same area:

Eisenhower Beach Park, Kapolei HI 96707
1. Surf HNL
Commercialized Surf Lessons. Observation area is set up which includes chairs for participants or non. Professional Photography/ Gopro Water Photography always available. However cost is higher than all 3. Request Miku or Bobby, she is a professional surfer from Japan. You can even request her surf dog tia.
. All in all Surf HNL's product is based on high clientele.

2. Reeled in Surf
Personalized Surf Lessons. You wont get the "extras" you would for example shade, chair etc. However cost is cheaper. Request Ross or Will. If you are on a budget choose reeled in. But ask for an earlier lesson.

Take a surf lesson during the weekday, the beach will be completely empty. Very secluded,. Showers and porta potty available for both Eisenhower or Surf HNL.

Nimitz Beach Park, Kapolei HI 96707
1. Kai Sallas Pro Surf School
Commercialized Surf Lessons. Although price is cheaper than Surf HNL, the ratio to student is much higher. Also the beach does not have showers, and the surf break is very steep so alot of chances to nose dive.

Do not book a surf lesson based on your availability or if you are a late sleeper. The earlier in the day the better. The surf breaks near kapolei get very windy at 11am. So you want to choose the best time for waves, wind and better tide.

Great info! How far in advance should we book surf lessons if we are going in October? Do any of those schools offer anything more than beginner lessons?

And, is there a surfboard rental place near Aulani that we could grab a board and hit the waves? Do you think we would need wetsuit booties at these beaches or are they fairy sandy? We live close to several surfing beaches and surf schools, so we have taken lessons at home, but we are still very much beginners using 8 and 9-foot soft-top boards.
