Sure my AAA TA hates me - Poly education

We have had Garden View rooms booked at Poly for months now. When I originally put in my requests for room location, I asked for Samoa, third floor facing Volcano pool. She told me we couldn't request it as it was a "water view" room, not Garden. I knew she was wrong, but thought I would sit on it a few months - maybe change my mind on longhouse location, wouldn't mind staying on either side, etc. Well, with all of the construction at Poly, I thought I would change our request to Fiji, third floor, Marina side. She changed our request to Fiji, but again informed me she couldn't put in the Marina side request as it was "water view" - again wrong - it's still Garden View. I finally wrote her an e-mail explaining all of Fiji was Garden View, not Lagoon view and also informed her that even rooms facing the pools are Garden View at Poly, not "water view". I even referred her to tikiman's site for future client reference. I tried not to be rude about it, but felt like I had to bring it up not only for her knowledge, but for the sake of her other Disney clients. I know she probably hates me now, but what could I do? ugh. I did get a good price on AAA, but I don't know if it was worth working with someone who didn't really know her stuff. I know they can't know everything as they don't only do Disney, but . . . :earboy2:

It may be that she just hasn't kept up with changes at the Polynesian over the years because there used to be more view categories. ;)

Have fun at the Polynesian!

We love the POLY and are going back in July. Luckily, we have a good TA at our AAA who does seem to know lots about Disney. We have even seen her hang up when she got a WDW cast member she didn't think knew as much as she did ... and when she called back, she got one she knew!! So, I guess we're lucky.
I hope you have a great time. We just requested a non-smoking room with a Garden View and will hope for the best. We'll get there that day early in the morning since we're just coming from another resort ... so hopefully we'll get a good room!
:paw:

We love the Poly as well. We're scheduled to go in 3.5 weeks. We're booked in two GVC rooms as we're a party of six this trip; Mom's coming along to even out the adult:child ratio. We've requested connecting non-smoking rooms on the 1st or 3rd floor.

We got the AAA rate through a non-AAA TA. Given the experience thus far, I'm not sure we'll use a TA again. We may have hit her on a few bad days as she initially reserved the room for a day less than we had asked, and after correcting the reservation, put in a dining reservation for our good bye breakfast again a day before we were schedule to leave...She seemed pretty knowledgible generally, so I'm guessing other things going on may have distracted her... :confused3

We can't wait!

 We also love the Poly!

You are going to LOVE GVC, just be warned that you and your family may not want to stay non-concierge ever again. We're already planning our next trip and I'd thought the concierge was a one-time splurge thing. Now our kids and DH want GVC again, but I'm not so sure I want to cough up the extra $$.

I know wherefor you speak. This will be our third trip at the Poly in a GVC room. After the first, we decided that benefits and convenience were worth the extra cost, at least while we had young children causing us to make plan changes essentially on the fly. When we're on vacation, I want to concentrate on relaxing and handing scheduling/ADR problems off to the concierge for resolution makes it easier for me to concentrate on the relaxation.

Did you have anything special for your birthday? My b-day is the second day of our trip, and I'm not above feeding ideas to DW who can then huddle with the kids to "surprise" me... ;)

Gosh, that really is such a good question! My b-day was really so very special and absolutely perfect for me, but there's so many different ways to celebrate and I remember reading old posts with ideas that may be more interesting to you, depending on your likes (restaurants, souvenirs, activities).

This was our first trip to WDW with children (DS7, DD7 then) and truthfully all I wanted on my b-day was to experience our children's excitement with the Magic Kingdom! We flew in the day before my birthday and didn't hit any parks that day. As you know, we could see the Castle beautifully from the concierge lounge and we watched the EWP and fireworks from the Poly. beach that night. My birthday morning we hit the MK big time after eating breakfast in the lounge and rode everything early (it was Easter and Spring Break week so the parks were open early and were manageable until lunchtime then the crowds poured in, which was when we went back to the hotel).

While we were away, balloons and chocolates were delivered to the room (surprise from my folks) and the Poly. delivered a signed photo of Mickey and chocolates. Everything was really thoughtful and special. The concierge staff also gave me a Today's My Birthday button/pin and I happily wore it on my big day and really enjoyed the friendly Congrats. from guests and staff.

The one organized thing we planned -- the Fantasmic dinner package that night -- was a nice experience, but we'll pass on seeing Fantasmic again (some people love the show but guess we're on the 'it was just O.K.' side). So it was the special unplanned moments that really made it a magical day.

Have a super b-day celebration, however you do it! :wizard:

I bet you're right.

I remember when the Poly had more views than just "garden" and "lagoon". I think there was lagoon, pool, garden, and even parking lot!

I had to explain the same thing to my TA and this is a company that specializes in Disney and is very popular on this board.
