Suprised to See That 4 Weeks Out is Late Notice

This is the reality of Disney Dining. Too few restaurants, too many people.

We always make our ADRs 180 days out but then as an obsessive compulsive planner that is not an issue.:rotfl2:

Think thats bad? My sister called me less than month before our trip (Thanksgiving week) to tell me she was making the reservations... :scared1: and I had to run to the phone to start making calls. We only managed to eat one meal together the whole trip (not counting Thanksgiving which we had in our room). I thought she had made them monthes earlier, but it seems when I asked about them she thought I meant the room reservations. Next time I'm gonna be on that phone 180 days out at 6:55 am!

I have been to disneyland loads of times. This is going to be my first trip to disneyworld (in Sept). It amazed me that with all the restaurants in WDW that you had to make reservations at 180 days out.
I didn't even plan my trip 180 days out. I got most of the ones I wanted. Then I had to change my plans to travel a week later. Man alive...this made it very difficult. I feel sorry for people who have been to disneyland and feel like they can just buy the dining plan, walk up and eat!
What happens if you can't get in a TS restaurant and you have the dining plan? In that case would they let you use a TS credit for a CS meal?
Just curious?

I don't know about Disneyland, but at WDW, as far as we know, there has never been a meal during which every Disney restaurant on-property was fully-booked. And now, they all have access to each other's reservations lists, so you can go up to any restaurant, even the morning of the meal you're interesting in, and make a reservation at any Disney restaurant that is available (in addition to doing so via the telephone reservations line).

Chef Mickey's and Donalds are hard to get... popular with families. I have been trying for Chef's for months ahead, still nada.

Character meals go FAST! There are tips on it and a calculator here:

it tells you how many days you can book ahead, people call the MINUTE they can. Welcome to trip planning ;)
