I posted a few days ago about my DH having an attack of gout and my sinus infection. Well DH has been on meds for the gout and he thought it was getting better. Then today he called me from work, it had gotten a LOT worse and he called to make an appt to see the dr again. Then about an hour later he called me back in tears (not a normal thing for him at all). He was in intense pain and asked me to meet him at the doctor he was going in early and he needed me because he couldn't walk from the car to the building without help.

We got there and within 5 minutes of him being examined we were sent to the hospital for an emergency ?dopler? They thought for sure it wasn't gout but instead a blood clot. Which meant they were going to put him in the hospital for 4-5 days and then on medication for up to 6 months. At that point all kinds of things were running through my mind.. his health was number one, but of course our trip was there too. I got him to the hospital and while we were waiting I called DVC member services.. as I was glancing at the confirmation sheet I had gotten I noticed they had us checking out 2 days earlier than we were supposed to. :earseek: So *IF* we were able to go (which at this point I didn't think we were) where were we staying those two extra nights? Could they still give us those nights? Would we lose our points? Was it too late to put them into holding? And then the guilt set in because DH was in so much pain and I shouldn't care about vacation right?

Well they did the dopler and thank God... no blood clot. So back to the doctors office we went. Once there they wanted to do an x-ray to see if maybe he broke a small bone in his foot. The x-ray came back and thank God once again.. no broken bones. It is an attack of gout.. a severe attack. He was told to triple his medication and also given a prescription of vicotin for the pain.

I am really hoping that with time (since we are driving and not flying) and increasing his meds this will take care of it.

We also got a note from the doctor to get an electric cart or wheel chair if needed. So.. if you do see that short lady pushing this tall dark haired man, OR two girls struggling to push him and the short lady laughing.. stop by to say hi. That will be us.

Pixie dust and prayers are being sent to you and your family!!! I hope you have wonderful and healthy trip!!!

Awwww, so sorry your DH is not feeling well but I hope things get better over the next few days and you are still able to go to WDW :)

sorry to hear about your DH. I am sooo glad it is not DVT (blood clot). That can be a potentially life treatening condition. I do ultrasound (doppler) for a living, so I see ALOT of people with DVT...and one of my close friends passed away at age 35 from this condition. I hope you trip goes well! :flower:

I always feel you can never have too much pixie dust being sent your way! :wizard:

Hope you can all enjoy your vacation to the fullest!

Sending pixie dust your way! Hope all goes well for both of you. Have to add that I have been trying to picture you pushing the wheelchair and it made me smile. Take care and feel better soon. :wizard: and have a wonderful trip.

Lots of pixie dust coming your way :wizard: :wizard:

Would not want anything to happen to folks who provide me so much pleasure (love listening to MouseHouse)

If you makes you feel better, my DH didn't come home from a work trip off shore until 5:40 am on the day we were to leave to go to WDW. We had a flight to catch and needed to leave the house at 7:15 am!! It all worked out and we had a good time. Hope you do to!!

My grandmother got a bad attack of gout after returning from WDW in March! The good news is, once she was on the medication, she was feeling better within a couple of days--and she's much older than your DH!

I hope he gets better soon. Gout is (as you have no doubt discovered) very painful and the whole uncertainty must have been very upsetting. Hang in there, and he'll feel better soon.

Thanks everyone. He doubled up on his meds as soon as we got home this afternoon. So far a lot of the swelling that had traveled up his leg has gone and the pain meds are really helping. Keep that pixie dust coming please.

I am so stressed out right now, my stomach is hurting.

I hope things go well for you.

My husband also has gout. Has your husband been eating anything different lately? The reason I asked is that strawberries recently caused my husband to have a flair up. Strawberries are in season now and we have been eating them by the bucket. Also he has to stop eating sunflower seeds during baseball season. I hope you find out what is causing his gout to flair up. I've seen my husband in such horrible pain. Gout is a bad condition.

If you do go, make sure he gets up and walks around the airplane as much as possible. When he is sitting in his seat, have him move his feet around frequently to keep the blood moving.

Glad to hear DH is feeling a little better. Did you work something out for the last two nights of your ressie?

Just wanted to send extra pixie dust your way :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I hope that everything works out well for your entire family and that you DH is feeling better and better each and every day! :goodvibes

I hope everything works out well. You may want to pop over to the disabilities board. They'll be able to point you in the direction to some great rental companies for wheelchairs and ECV's. Disney only has a limited supply, so it may be a better bet to rent for your trip.

Best wishes from us in Miami! :wizard:

Just think happy and positive thoughts and they will all come true! :cool1:

My DH is VERY VERY allergic to strawberries, so he doesn't go near them. We really haven't changed anything in his diet. What is strange is that this is the only time of the year he seems to have a flair up. I am not sure if it could be stress related or not. He has been going through a lot of stress at work.

We are driving not flying and we will make a few stops every day. We have a Saturn Relay (sport van) so he can stretch out in the back if he wants .. and watch a movie.

He seems to be doing much better this morning. The swelling is almost gone in his leg, His foot is still sore, but he is able to walk around today. He is going to be tripling his meds again today and probably tomorrow. That seemed to help a lot yesterday. Yesterday he had on his dress shoes for work, and I am wondering if because of the gout in the side of his foot (it's not in his toe.. strange I know but he is always doing things his own way ;) ) I was wondering if maybe wearing that tight shoe irritated it more and or caused it to hamper the blood flow and that is why there was so much swelling up in the calf of his leg. He is going to wear his sandals today, hopefully that will help a lot. I am so tempted to buy him a pair of crocs, but he has a size 13 foot and well.. :rotfl: #1 they don't make them that big and #2 he wouldn't be caught dead in them (yet they are OK for me :confused3 ).

We really won't be doing a lot of walking until Monday, so we are wishin and hopin and praying that by then he will be good as new and we won't need to get a wheelchair or electric cart for him.

Please keep that pixie dust flowing though. At this point I will take any and all we can get.

OH.. the last two nights of our VWL ressie.. when I asked about it she said in the computer it showed us being there those two nights, but it didn't say that on our confirmation. She said those two nights were added later??? Not sure I get that.. but as long as they are showing up in Disneys system at this point that is all I care about.

So sorry to hear this! Hugs to you and your family!

Good Luck to you. My BF also has Gout and has been going thru a gout attack for a few days now too. Maybe it's the weather. Unfortunately He won't go see a doctor over it, and the only time he's been on medication is when he's whined and cried so much that I physically make him go.

If I can ask, what common medications are good (Otc vs RX) for this condition. I've just looked up a low purine diet -and found out that 3 of his favorite foods, Spinach, Mushrooms (moderate) and Shrimp(high) are all on the "Do not Eat list". *sigh* I guess I need to be educated on what to feed him. :)

Have a great trip, I hope you're both feeling Tip Top for your trip.

Sending pixie dust your way just like the rest - hope he gets better in time for the trip! :wizard:
