Sitting here in the truck while my daughter is at dance practice wondering what to do....? We are supposed to come in to the Fort this Saturday, but wondering what everyone else is doing about making the trip.

We planned on leaving Friday around noon from the Raleigh, NC area driving down to GA and stay the night somewhere, then get up Saturday and make it the rest of the way.... Now thinking about just leaving on Saturday morning and driving all the way down and just playing by "ear" if we should go all the way in.

What is everyone else doing that is traveling this time? I have read over on the other sections what folks are doing, but those folks are flying and are worried about the airport being closed. That does'nt really apply to those of us traveling by RV's.

I guess if worse comes to worse, I can come in Sunday afternoon and enjoy the nice weather that will follow this storm.....

Just saw a report on MSNBC and they said the storm should be a Sunday/Monday event rather than and Saturday/Sunday event. Their map shows the storm out in the Gulf at 1pm Sat. Just be aware that if Orlando predicts high winds, then FW will have you remove your camper from the campground and direct you to an area to park it and then they put you in a resort until any dangerous weather has passed. Not sure where they will put you as I called today trying to get a ressie for my MIL and GMIL who are evacuating from Venice, FL for the storm and Disney was all sold out except the Yacht Club. Maybe they hold some rooms back for "emergencies" of this type.

Duane, I've made that trip from Raleigh many times. I've pulled my trailor down there 3 times and on one of those trips got evacuated from FW. They get things back online pretty quickly. They put us up and POR and we just parked in the lot and didn't unhitch. We were back on our site the next day.

I usually drive straight through. If I'm pulling the trailor, I like to leave about 4:30a or 5:00a. I can get off of Capital Blvd and the beltline before it gets crowded, and I really don't seem to hit any heavy rush hour traffic. I usually pull in around 3:00p; so, it works out pretty good. I'm set up and settled in time to head to one of the parks for the evening.

That's what we usually do as well, but last year we took off early afternoon on a Friday and drove thru to Savannah and stopped for the night. The wife does'nt really care for the all out 10 hr drive straight thru.

This will be our 4th pilgrimage to the Ft at this time of the year, so we're kind of bummed that this thing is toying with us....

We'll probably leave tomorrow afternoon after our daughter gets home from school and take our time heading down. If things start to "heat up" we'll drop back and arrive a little later.
