We are leaving in 3 weeks or so and are suppose to go from St. Louis down through Nashville. Do you think the roads will be ready by then due to all the flooding? It looks just awful on the news. Hoping all my Dis friends are ok!! Or should we re-route through Memphis? I know this question may be silly...looking for info from all the seasoned Disney drivers! Thanks!

I-24 is a major trucking route and will most certainly be open by then. I live in Chattanooga and know someone who drove to Nashville yesterday bypassing the closed area through backroads.
Enjoy your trip!

I drive from St. Louis, too. Here's a good, proven alternate "river-free" route, if you need it:

  • Once in St. Louis, take I-55 South to Memphis
  • US 78 east to Birmingham (AL)
  • I-65 S to Montgomery
  • US 231 south to a point just past the FL state line
  • I-10 east to I-75 South/Florida's Turnpike and on to WDW

Caveat: this detour will add an extra 137 miles to your trip, but if I-24/I-40 proves to be a roll of the dice, this route will get you there with no major hiccups...

Thank you so much for taking time to give me these directions! I am writing it down and bringing it with us! :wizard:

My neighbor has friends coming from KY who just drove through Nashville today. I-24 is totally open. Not all roads in Nashville are open-you might want to get gas/food before or after you go through. Clarksville is about 45 minutes west of the city at the KY/TN border and has a lot of services. Just east of Nashville there are still problems for 20-30 miles--I know the college at Murfreesboro 20 miles east postponed final examsand schools were closed early in the week.
Hopefully all will be back to normal once you go.
Enjoy your trip!
