Support Group - 10 lbs or less

I hope everyone had a good weekend!! Sorry I've been MIA... last week I got in 4 workouts and two of them were 4 mile runs so yay for that. Then Friday I got stuck at work late and DBF and I were going out to dinner so I skipped the workout. No long run on Saturday for me because... DBF surprised me on Friday and PROPOSED!!!!!!!!:banana::banana: He then set up breakfast for Saturday morning with my best friend and her husband before we went out on a boat with our other friends. I'm super excited and was totally shocked. Actually when he got down on one knee the first thing I said was "shut up!" :rotfl:

We went boating on Saturday (but did some wakeboarding so I am a little sore in my arms and back) and on Sunday hung out at a friend's pool and had pizza and beer. Tonight we're buying the rest of what the people stole from us in the burglary, then working out Tues, Wed, Thurs and leaving early Friday for a wedding up in PA. Phew!

I hope everyone else had a good weekend! :goodvibes Oh and MMQ~ freaking amazing you did 9 miles!! Makes me want to start training for a half right now!

Congratulations!!!!!:lovestruc

I actually started running the end of March - just about 4 months ago. I did the C25K, then a 6 week 10K training plan, and now I'm a few weeks into a half training plan. Its been a ton of work and I'm still amazed that I've made it this far. I still remember being able to finish 3 and being amazed that I could do that! :) Its just a very gradual buildup on the long run -like .5 miles longer on each one, a 3, then 3.5, then 4, 4.5 etc until I got to 6 miles, now it's 1 mile longer on each one, last week was 8, this week 9, next week 10.

I usually run 3-4 times a week, the goal is 4 but some weeks I'm only able to do 3 due to the weather and stuff. I do the 1 longer run, and then 2 or 3 @ 4-miles. I am the kind of person though who NEEDS to follow a training plan - I need to be told what to do! If left to my own devices I'd probably go a mile and then tell myself it was okay to walk as soon as I got the slightest bit tired and turn around and come home. Having a plan helps me a lot and I do feel disappointed if I don't finish what's on the plan for the week.

The best place I found to find out about runs in my area is active.com. I've also checked local events calendars on the newspaper or news stations websites.

Good luck and I hope your knee gets better! Just keep going - little bits at a time!

thanks for the info...did 3.5 miles yesterday:thumbsup2 I try to run 3 days a week and walk on the treadmill 3 other days, taking Saturdays off. I have been lucky with the weather here, it hasn't rained on my run days yet, but I know come fall/winter it will a challenge. My treadmill isn't the best for running so I may have to replace it or join a gym to use a good treadmill. I know I will not want to run when it's freezing and snowy out!

I have been not so good with eating. After I got down to 1 lb left to go, I went a little nuts eating and put 7 lbs back on:headache::headache::headache:. I hate when I do that:sick:I am trying my best to eat right and count my points; had a bad day Saturday and not so great yesterday; I really need to get back in control (again!) to get these last lbs off for good. Have wedding next Friday and a trip to CA in 2 weeks. Hoping to be as close to my goal weight as possible by the trip because I know eating out for 10 days will not be pretty.

Karen - CONGRATULATIONS on the engagement!!! How exciting!!! It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend to top it all off.

Now that DH is home, I am now committed to eating like I should and making sure I get my 4 runs and 1-2 days of biking in. Okay, now that I've written, I just need to keep repeating so I can really convince myself it's going to happen.

Hope everyone has a great week!

CONGRATS KAREN!!! I am so happy for you!!!:cool1: That is wonderful news! Glad you guys had a nice weekend together and sounds like you will have another fun weekend coming up at the wedding. Have any idea when the wedding will be?

As far as my running goes - I owe so much to the WISH board and this thread more specifically....I don't know where I'd be if someone on here hadn't recommended C25K to me - that started it all! Just being able to come post my progress - my weigh-ins whether they are up or down - has made a huge impact in my sticking to my diet this time around! So thanks to all of you for all of the help and support...I honestly don't think I would have made it this far without this group!

Great job! Every extra half-mile or mile adds up!! :thumbsup2

I too have to think about looking for a treadmill before this winter...I know nothing about them, I have never run on one, and have no idea what to look for or get. Hoping I won't have to get it until like October though - snow will fly by Nov.!

Sorry to hear about your weight gain...ugh, it is so hard sometimes. I think a bunch of us are stuggling to get the eating back on track, so you are definitely not alone! hang in there - you can do it!

Making a plan really can help - I warn my husband at the beginning of each week which nights I plan to go running, so he kind of knows what the plan is and when I'll be gone. Good luck getting all your workouts in this week!

As for me, my eating was not great today, better than it has been, but my no means stellar. Did 4 miles tonight, it was humid again but I made it though. Gotta eat better tomorrow!

Congratulations, Karen!

I'm up a few pounds since earlier in the summer. I'm with a new boy, and this relationship has been great in many respects, but hard on me keeping tabs on my food intake.

Thanks everyone!! I'm trying to set up the photographer right now (he's my most important element) and then pick a place and I think I may talk to a wedding planner this afternoon. Between work, the gym, photography, and doing stuff with DBF (oh wait.. DF I guess??) I just don't have the time to stress about this stuff! We're super excited though. Last night it was so cute- we were looking at wedding places online and pictures and stuff and I asked him a question about something and he said "I can't wait to marry you." Awww.

So I guess this means I need to kick up the workout plan and be good about eating!! I have some motiviation now ;)

Redlight~ I feel your pain. I'm still holding onto the extra 5lbs I gained when I started dating DF last year!!

MMQ~ I hate running on a treadmill but it's a must sometimes. My parents have one and it's nice but it's not nearly what the ones at the gym are. They have ones that fold up so they don't take up as much room when you're not using them which is nice.

Keep up the good work guys- I'm going for a run on the treadmill tonight and hoping to hit 4 miles.

Been having a pretty good week - weighed in today and I am down a pound! Yeah!! Headed back in the right direction again!:thumbsup2

So last night I went for my long run - it was the day of my 10 miler. I was super nervous about it and had really high expectations - I was just hoping for a great run! It wasn't my best run, but I did make it through! My time was 1:48 so I was pretty happy with that. :)

The first 4 miles were hot/thirsty. I stopped home after 4 and chugged lots of water and went back out - felt better and got into a groove until about the last mile, then I started to struggle. My back hurt again and I was having a lot of general aches and pains - my knees were stiff and I really just wanted to be done! I really had to keep pushing that last mile to keep myself from slowly trudging along! The worst part of the night was the bugs - they were horrible!! and these swarms of these little yellow butterflies along one road kept constantly flying right in my face - I didn't dare open my mouth to breathe!!! I really didn't want to suck up a butterfly! :rotfl: Gotta love nature!! I must have been quite entertaining to the neighbors trying to swat these things out of my face while running. I really don't like bugs.

So, I finished a 10 mile run...I really can't believe it. I was horribly sore last night after I got home and still feeling it this morning - very stiff and tired. But I made it, and that is all that counts! What I think I am most excited and proud of is that tomorrow is exactly 4 months since I started running. I took my very first C25K run on March 30th. So in 4 months I went from a complete non-runner to 10 miles! I am completely amazed by that! Four months ago I never would have believed that I could do it. :goodvibes

Looks like it's been a quiet few days around here. How was everyone's weekend? I took Friday off and saw Inception with Boyfriend. I liked it, and I think I understood what was going on. . . . maybe have to see it again to make sure. :upsidedow

I'm still doing pretty good food - and - exercise - wise. Weekends are always a challenge. Still (and will forever) have a hard time resisting the temptation of fries and ice cream. Sigh. But at least kept the portions small. Did my bi-weekly weigh in his morning and was only up half a pound. Not too shabby, I was expecting much worse.

The Disneyland Half is in just over a month, so I really need to stop making excuses and get some long runs in over the next few weeks. Although I'm sad summer is going by so fast, I'm very excited I get to go to Disneyland soon:earsgirl:

10 miles is amazing, MommyMcQueen!

Double-digit runs! Way to go!:thumbsup2

Thanks so much you guys!

My weekend was pretty bad food-wise, did okay exercising though. I ran on Friday night and did the 30 Day Shred DVD (trying to get back to it and do it more) and ran again Sunday morning. Both 4 mile runs, both went fine.

This morning I went out and went shoe shopping for new running shoes!! it was a little intimidating, I went to a store that does fittings for runners and went through their process, it went well. I ended up buying a pair of shoes there, I'm anxious to go try them out tonight! I then went to 2 different sporting good stores and got several shirts and a pair of shorts. All my shirts were cotton and it's time to get a few decent running shirts. So, I'll be decked out in my new gear tonight!

I'm back to tracking my calories and I really need to do better this week. But we'll be going out to dinner one night for our anniversary, so I'm going to allow myself that splurge!

Hope everyone is doing well!

hi girls and guys

MMQ -- cyber high five on accomplishing a 10 mile run! you have come leaps and bounds since March! wow! you are very inspiring. a friend of mine asked me to participate in a 1/2 in Nov, i won't be able to since i get to accompany my DH on a business trip in Oct....to WDW! so excited! this is the 3rd year in a row and i  the vendor for being so savvy to have their conference there! anyhow, where i was going with this....i offered to 'train' with her b/c she told me she needs the push to get the long-runs in.

and congratulations Karen!! so happy for you!!

i know i'm missing updates, sorry. been trying to lurk and read, just haven't been up to posting. so maybe it's not interesting, but i feel and want to continue to feel vested in this group and goal. 3 weeks ago I helped on a local 'mission trip' and we painted at a children's home all week. it was really hot that week. by mid-week i had swelling in my abdomen and ended up at the doctor on friday. since then it's been 4 dr appts, one ultrasound, and a scheduled CT scan on wed afternoon. any prayers are appreciated. i have gained 20 lbs in 3 weeks, my abdomen is really distended to the point that i can't wear any of my pants/shorts that button, i'm like 5" from buttoning. the mornings are better but i feel worse as the day goes on. i really haven't been overeating, not sure i'm always making the absolute best choice. i do think i will have succeeded in shrinking my stomach down some when this is all figured out. in the meantime, just trying to get in 3 smaller meals and sooooo much water i could float to the Disney Magic. ohhh....wish i could

the week after painting i didn't workout, just felt like crap. at the end of that week at followup appt i was scolded for not getting my walks in...last week i worked out and got dog walks in on the non-workout days. that is my goal for this week too. really working out in the morning isn't much of a problem, i just have to modify a lesser intensity.

so that's where i am, i still have my goal. i just found a cute pair of cordorouy jean shorts that i really want to wear.....

i'm so proud of what all has been accomplished here! would you all mind giving a shout out as to your progress since we started this group? i'd really love to read about all of them!

OhMom - I'm so sorry to hear about your medical issues! I'm thinking of you and hope the doctors are able to find out what is causing this! Please keep us posted on how you are doing and what they find out!

Congrats on your WDW trip in October! And on finding a running partner to train with...I often wish I had someone to run with occasionally - would be fun. Hope you have a great trip!

You are an important part of this group and hope you do come post and let us know how you are doing. You made me feel SO welcome here after my first post on this thread - we had a lot in common with our goals and our previous experiences with weight loss/gaining it back! I remember thinking how nice it was to not feel so alone with those struggles!

As for my progress since I joined the group: I've lost 12 pounds so far, 3 more to my goal, and I had lost about 9 pounds before I joined the group. I've been at a plateu here a few weeks again but am still determined to make my goal at some point! And then there's the running. Went from non-runner to a pretty decent runner with the support and encouragement of this group! I am still hoping to be able to do a half-marathon this fall - going to keep training for it and see where it leads me!

OhMom - So sorry you having to deal with such medical issues. Definitely not fun. Will for sure send prayers your way hoping they can diagnose quickly and treat quickly!

Quick question for you runners. I missed my Friday and Saturday runs because my left knee felt really stiff and sore. It hurt to bend, move, and stretching it just killed. By Sunday, I could only walk stiffed legged. What do you do when you feel like this? Is there something you specifically use of do to help loose it up? Boy, growing old is painful!

Thanks!

MMQ -- :thanks: you so very much for the kind words (& stevesbear) and sharing with me my place in your journey. i really really needed to read just that. i feel so off-track in the weight-loss its hard mentally to keep trucking. please know that meant alot to me

i drug myself to w/o today, 30 mins split on bike/elliptical. i had 2 days off with a quick visit of my Mom and today it was important to get back into the routine as this morning i so wanted to just not. honestly if my DD hadn't had appt at the wellness center I might not have, but she did, and i accomplished!

keep the progress reports coming ::yes::

It's been a little over a week I think and I feel like I've missed a lot!

OhMom~ I'm so sorry to hear about your medical issues! It's incredibly frustrating to have test after test and not know what's going on (my dad was in a situation a few years ago like that- took forever to diagnose). It's so disheartening but know that we're all here for you! That's great you felt up to working out. I really hope things get figured out soon for you.

MMQ~ 10 miles, holy crap! Awesome job. I'm starting to train for another 10K that's October 30th so I need to get on top of that (starting today).

I've been working out some but not much - the past three weeks between the break-in, engagement and trip to PA to a wedding really put a damper on my workout schedule. I did go to the gym and did a hard 60 minutes of cardio last night so that helped. I'm down on the scale further than I've seen so far (at least in a year and a half). So now I just need to keep at it. I'm hoping training for this run will help- that was what really got me down on the scale last time.

No date set but I do have a photographer almost ready to sign and we're seeing a place tonight! I'm SO excited I could burst. I've only seen one pic of it but from the wedding planner's short description I think I'll love it (the place is new). So we may be picking a date tonight! We're leaning towards September 10th (9.10.11 ;)). The wedding on the horizon is definitely making me think more about what I eat.

Plan for tonight is to run before we go to see the place. When I get out of work will probably dictate how far I go. Lately I've been running 4 miles at least twice a week on the treadmill, and it's finally cool enough (in the 80s) to try for an outdoor run tonight.

hey all, wanted to let you know my CT scan was normal..whew...going to spend the weekend trying to 'cleanse' my colon (sorry TMI) and have a follow-up on Monday.

stay focused this weekend...i'm going to try but it will be hard over the next week. my DH is off work burning some vacation and both mine and DD's birthday are over the course of the week...

Hi Do you guys mind if I lurk abit?

With the buddy system I lost weight 2 years and have kept it down until this summer. I used to go on the treadmill now I've been ignoring it and gained about 8 pounds. I haven't weight myself, I can feel it in my clothes.

I can't seem to get motivated on my own and I wantt get back down to my goal weight. Going to WDW next week so it will be hard then.

thanks.

ok, it's been a bit since I have been here but I need to start getting motivated again.
I am hoping to get a run in tonight when i get home

I do have a general question- how many days a week do are you able to exercise- I am trying to find a balance between work, to young kids, and everything else. I am weaning my DD (almost 8 months) from nursing since I am not producing enough anymore, so I am hoping this frees up a bit of time but I am struggling right now with balance.
thanks
