Support Group - 10 lbs or less

I need some support. 5 years of marriage 2 amazing girls and 10 pounds later.

We're going to Idaho for our annual family vacation over the 4th of July and I'm totally dreading getting into a swimsuit. My sister in law will be there, she looks better then me and she just had a baby 5 months ago.:sad2:

I have made some small changes to my diet to include more fruit, hate veggies, but trying to choke them down at least once a day, switched to whole wheat and all ready drinking skim

I have been going for walks on my break at work and riding the bike at home for 20 minutes about 4 times a week and I haven't seen any improvement. What next?

I don't want to join a gym because I feel guilty as it is being away from the family all day while I'm working and in the evenings when I'm at school.

Any magic tricks anyones knows of?

Is it too much to ask for my thighs not to rub together?

Thanks for the welcome ladies........that's exactly why I need a group like this. As a stay at home mom, I often don't get a lot of interaction with other adults, and I think that has a negative impact on my eating, especially when I'm sitting around the house bored.

I'm going to start working with the Wii today (Wii Fit and EA Active), and I hope to start working on the couch to 5K as soon as my mom can help me alter the arm band I got for my ipod. As ridiculous as this sounds, I couldn't find an armband small enough to stay on my arm! I would love to run the 1/2 marathon at Disney some day, but considering the fact that the farthest distance I've ever run without stopping is a 1/4 of a mile, that seems like a VERY distant goal.

Ok... Memorial day weekend OVER. How did everyone do?? I can say I did NOT do well with my eating. I didn't shove my face but I definitely didn't hold back much. I'm up another 4lbs this morning but I know that it's mostly water weight. I've got until Thursday when we leave to drive to Florida to be really good, and then I'm going to put as much effort forth as I can to be relatively good on vacation but who knows.

My 10K went really well!! I was kinda bummed because the mat that you run over to start was acting up so they took the gun time rather than personal start time. And I had no idea where the start actually was since I was back in the pack a little ways - so garmin clocked me at 6.35 miles instead of 6.22. When Garmin hit 6.22 miles I looked at my time and it was 1:06:30 so it was 3:30 better than my goal!! My end time was actually 1:08 something because of that start issue. Oh well- I still beat my goal and I felt amazing after. No soreness or anything. Such a difference training can make!! :cool1: My average was 10:42 min miles, which was right about where I was in training. I felt like I could have pushed myself more but I was running with two other girls so I didn't want to leave them, and it was really really hot and humid out.

After the race was pizza and beer (1 slice and 3 beers) and then we went to the beach with friends and had some drinks and food on the beach and a bbq after. Same kinda thing for Sunday. I haven't worked out since the run on Saturday but plan on doing Body Pump tonight and a 4 mile run tomorrow before leaving for vacation. I'm debating what to do about vacation - if I should try to run some or not. I'd like to just to keep some sort of normalcy. What do you guys think? Is it crazy??

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hi Karen! Congrats on your run! So glad it went well! Sorry the timing devices were not working, but great that you beat your goal!!:thumbsup2

My weekend was similar to yours...while I didn't completely pig out - I did eat and allow myself to snack some, but I thought I did pretty well over all. My downfall was my favorite salad (and not a healthy salad) that I only make on holiday weekends or for potlucks. I did make it healthier by only using 1/2 of the oil the recipe called for, but it's still so bad! I am up 2 pounds today...which isn't completely horrible. Hope I can have that gone by Friday and be back to where I was last Friday.

I had a good weekend exercising though - Friday before we left for camping I did the 30 Day Shred. Saturday morning I got up and ran 45 minutes on the country road by our campground - it was an okay run - half of the route was shaded and nice, other half was hot, sunny and gravel road. I really wanted to quit a couple of times but I stopped twice to stretch and kept pushing through, and made myself run a couple extra minutes to make up for my little breaks. Sunday morning I walked 2.5 miles with a friend, and Monday morning after we got home and I went out to run 30 minutes. It was overcast and a cool/damp 65 degrees...10 minutes into the run the overcast cleared and sun came out and the humidity skyrocketed and I was dying! But I made it through. My morning runs are not anywhere near as good (or enjoyable) as my evenings, I feel like I'm just trudging along, and I don't enjoy it at all, my energy level is just not there. Looking forward to running tonight though...starting my new 10K training program this week - YEA!

Karen - I would try to run some on your vacation if you can and want to...I don't think it's crazy at all. I know I'm trying to figure out what days and where I can run when we're at Disney in August - so I think it's great that you want to run while on vacation. Even if its just a couple short ones - it won't be so hard to get back into it when you get back. Have a great vacation!!

I too had a "holiday" weekend of eating. Not the worse I've done, but I could have done better! Why does it seem like whenever the weekend comes around I lose ALL self-control?! Oh well, hopefully I'll be bathing suit ready by the middle of summer (my new goal is now 4th of July  ) It was nice to get compliments from people I hadn't seen in a while on my losing weight, though I've avoided stepping on a scale. :rolleyes1

hi guys
I haven't been on in a while....been doing pretty well the past few weeks eating-wise; I lost 2.2 lbs last week. I started a class that has taken pretty much all my free time so what I realized with all the school work I've been doing, is that I eat when I'm bored. (well, really not a newsflash but it was eye opening none the less )

I've been so busy studying that some days I haven't used all my daily WW points and haven't even been hungry.

I'm on week 6 of the Couch to 5K plan and my knee is a little sore today for some reason but has otherwise been good!

congrats Karen on your run! I hope to be able to actually complete a run like that someday! I would love to be able to do one of the Disney runs one day also.

I am very excited to find this thread. I had a baby 5 months ago and I am getting myself back into shape and have about 10 pounds to lose and I need to find that motivation. I just started the couch to 5k yesterday. I want to be back in shape for our Aug trip!!

I've noticed now that I'm weighing myself more often that instead of just slowly and steadily creeping down, my weight will hold steady for a week or so, then jump down (or, occaisonally, up.) 1-1.5 lbs literally overnight. :confused3 Does this happen to anyone else? Or do you think it's my scale? I admit it's not the most reliable thing. I can weigh myself, then move the thing 2 inches and it will give me a completely different reading.

scales are unfortunately so finicky! I try and weigh myself a couple times in a row and if i keep getting two diff numbers I sometimes just average the two.

tings kind of go back to "normal" tomorrow so I am hoping to start with a run in the morning!

I am REALLY bad about weighing myself and do it every day. Some days I even tell myself that I'm not going to, but I end up doing it anyway because it makes me crazy. It has become my routine in the morning to get up, go to the bathroom, and weigh myself. Honestly, I wish it was a habit I could break because a lot of the time it just sets me up to be depressed for the day.

Today I started the 6 week program on the EA Active more workouts. I've never even made it through the 30 day challenge on the original EA Active, but it is my goal to actually do it this time.

I used to weigh all the time too and I had to stop....it also was making me crazy and when the number wasn't where I thought it should be, I'd end up depressed, Or if the number was good, I'd use that as an excuse to splurge some and of course the weight went right back up.:headache: I only weigh now at my WW meeting once a week

I totally am with you there. I weigh myself everyday for the most part (not on the weekends). When I'm much lower I end up sabatoging myself because I think I subconsciously tell myself "oh well I was down today I can allow myself this little treat." Of course all that does is keep me the same place.

Where I worry about stopping is that I fluctuate soooo much. I can go up and down 4 lbs in one day. Like yesterday morning I weighed myself, and this morning I weighed myself. I was up 4.5lbs after the weekend, now I'm down 3.4 from where I was yesterday  Also when I have a bad weigh day I'm more careful about what I eat. I'm afraid I'll be like "oh well I don't have to weigh myself until next Thursday- I can splurge today and be good tomorrow."

I just got back from my meeting and I lost 2.2 lbs again! I am 1 pound away from my goal..this weekend will be a challenge though because we have wedding to go to. I am hoping to stay in control and not go overboard.

DH may not be able to make it home from his business trip in time to get to the wedding, I guess that will work to my advantage though because then I will have to stay sober enough to drive myself home...that should help me stay on track:laughing:

cepmom that is AWESOME!!

:welcome: to our 2 newcomers! yay!!

this is crazy week for me -- my DD graduates (:scared1:) Sat and party here on Sun

with that said...i have been faithful to my workouts on the Making the Cut plan. sadly though I haven't lost any weight. the only thing keeping me going is i can see slight difference in my upper legs and middle.

MomtoO&E -- you already know the answer, no magic trick :wizard: Try V8 light drinks, there is an Acai berry blend that is quite good. keep trying those veggies, your tastes may change. maybe prepared a different way? could you add in some cardio exercise, but doing it at home? there are some great DVDs and Wii games.....also Exercise TV on Demand

my eating over the weekend sounds about like everyone else, somewhere inthe middle.

i hardly ever weigh myself anymore, i can tell by the way my clothes fit how i'm doing. i guess my Mom is a habitual weigh-in-er and the numbers games she puts herself through make me too tired

i'm here in spirit girls!

I stay more motivated with daily weigh-ins, so I'll be doing that for a few weeks 'til I'm back in the habit of making better food/exercise decisions. After that I'll go back to once or twice a week.
I have been weighing myself multiple times, trying to figure out how much I actually weigh on my less-than-reliable scale. This morning I got readings that varied more than 5 lbs  I'm about ready to pitch the thing off my balcony and see how far it can fly. After moving it around to find the most level place on my floor, it seemed to settle on a weight, so I'm going with that today. We shall see what tomorrow brings. Possibly pieces of broken scale in my apartment's parking lot.
At least I'm starting to notice some good changes in my abs and arms now that I've been sticking to my strength training for a couple weeks. Hope everyone's having a good Wednesday. Halfway to the weekend!

Ok so I'm down to where I was before Memorial Day weekend. Figures :)

We leave tonight after work to drive to Savannah and then Florida so no more posts for me for about 10 days! I NEED a vacation :banana::banana:

I've picked out some restaurants in Destin (I think a bunch were recommended by you guys on this thread!). We're hoping to go to McGuire's Irish Pub, The Lighthouse Restaurant (half price dinners 4:30-8!) and the Back Porch Restaurant. Also probably a stop for bfast at the Donut hole and maybe some takeout from Sarah K's. I'm so excited!! Please keep your fingers crossed for us that the oil spill stays away at least until we leave!!! I'm so worried about it.

I've got running stuff packed so I'm hoping to get in 2-3 runs this week. I'm also going to try to not eat tooooo bad while we're there.

I did a 3 mile run yesterday and felt great (although it was HOT and humid) and I ate pretty well this week. Have a great 10 days everyone! :sunny:

I just had a baby 4 months ago and I did lose most of the weight but would still like to lose 5 lbs. The bigger issue for me is to trim and tone. It is summer now, we are going to Disney late July, and I hate the way my summer clothes are fitting me at this point. I never realized how hard it could be to get tone after a baby.

I am back to work and so far I have been walking every day at lunch. I try to do 100 crunches every other night. This depends on dear son's needs for the evening. LOL. But I know that I need to do more. I would like to tone my stomach, sides/waist, and upper legs/thighs. Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

Happy to have this group for support, thanks for listening! :goodvibes

I am in the same boat as you. My DD just turned 5 months and I am struggling with this also. I am back a my prepregnancy weight but I still can lose 10 pounds but it's the lose skin that is driving me a bit nuts. I am doing crunches every other day also, and on the other days I do a mix of push ups and lunges- i have just started this. I also now try to do squats holding my DD (the extra 16 pounds is great) and i do a lot of over head presss with her. Each of these things are done when ever. I need more struture with it though.

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a good week! I'm pretty excited today - weigh-in day for me and I had a good one - down another pound! So far I've lost 17 pounds now - 7 more to my original goal of 132. It feels SO good to be in the 130's again! I can't believe it - I'm now at my lowest weight in about 8 years - I've lost/gained from 140-150, but never gotten below 140...so I am feeling so great today!:goodvibes

Had a good week of workouts:
Monday: ran 3 miles
Tuesday: did 30 Day Shred DVD and ran 2 miles of speed intervals, then walked 2 miles
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 4 mile run (first time and I made it all the way through - felt like I could keep going)
Friday: today will be an off day - rest for tomorrow
Saturday: 5K run!!

I did somehow hurt my neck this week - and I think I did it doing crunches on Tuesday - since then the right/back side of my neck has been sore, also the right shoulder a bit. Feels like a bit of a pinched nerve or something. I am horrible at doing crunches and situps and I always try so hard NOT to pull on my neck or pull up with my head, but seem to always somehow still do it. It's not a bad pain unless I look to the left, then it is sore/tight, I can't hardly turn my head to the left. I'll try to do some heat or ice on it today, maybe that will help.

So tomorrow morning is my first 5K! They are calling for rain tonight and into the morning - I really hope it's not raining! But we'll see...I'll be up and out the door by about 6:45am to get there by 7:30, race starts at 8:00am. Temps look to be cool - low to mid 60's, so at least it won't be hot and sunny! I run much better in the cool. I'll report back when it's done!

Hope everyone had a good week!
