OK, everybody has one - Who in your immediate or extended family has a strange superstition?

My mother was a very sweet lady, God rest her Soul, but she had an irrational aversion to the color Black. She would not wear black clothes, buy any black appliances, drive a black car, or own a black pet. I think it had something to do with black being associated with death. She was not superstitious about anything else, just this. I always thought it odd.

Hmmm...I - er - I mean, someone in my family refuses to wear gray. Seems everytime something bad happened to this person who is totally not me, they were wearing gray. So they stopped wearing it.

:o :rolleyes1

So far, I don't think anyone in my family has had reason to be superstitious (knock on wood).

My aunts birth stone is opal, and I have always complementd her on her rings. As long as I can remember, she has said that opal is bad luck for someone to wear if it isn't your birth stone. Is this true? She has totally ruined the stone for me!:(

Now that you mention it, my grandmother used to say something like that (my birthstone is opal). I think she also once said that an opal could not be given as a gift but must be "taken". Might explain why the two I was given as gifts were later stolen - I'm sure it had nothing to do with the "druggie" building manager I had at the time who had a key to my apartment...

None of us are very superstitious

I refuse to drink before 5 o'clock. I have always believed no good could come of it! But then it's always 5 o'clock somewhere:smooth:

Black... she wouldn't like me too much, I wear black, very rarely do I wear any other color.... I have 2 black cats and most of my appliances are black, lol. Black happens to be my favorite color.

I don't have any superstitions, nor does anyone in my family. That I know of anyways. :)

Both my mother and my grandmother have told me this as well, so it must be a fairly wide-spread belief.

My birthstone is an Opal and I have always heard that as well. I don 't know if it is really bad luck or not.

I never thought my family to be superstitious, but lately my mom has come up with this thing about buzzards.
One buzzard means sorrow, two means joy, and etc. On our way to New Mexico last summer we did this all the way. Now when I accidentally see a buzzard, I look for a second, and started worrying about that lone buzzard. Eventually common sense takes over, and I blow it off.

Well since I was born on a friday the 13th and I own a black cat I don't think I'm superstitious...but hey maybe that's why I have so much bad luck!
